Valdez Showers- Possible Grad Transfer?
A good friend of mine is a huge Florida Gators fan and he told me it's all but confirmed that Valdez Showers will be coming to Michigan from Florida as a grad transfer.
Showers is a 3star wr/rb/cb from Madison Heights that Michigan offered in 2011. His other notable offers included Auburn, Wisconsin & Mich St.
His career offensive stats for Florida are 20 receptions for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns &12 carries for 103 yards (I believe most of those were sweeps). He also had 15 tot tackes and 6 solo last year at db.
Here's a link he says shows it being discussed. I do not have a rivals account so I can't check/confirm:

I know we've heard rumors about possible transfers. This one seems to make sense to me.
Has anyone else heard anything about Showers???
*** I've been out of touch with the board last couple days. I searched the site and didn't see anything about Showers on the site since 2011 when we were recruiting him. I apologize if someone has already talked about this. First time poster
I heard his brother "Golden" might come too as a package deal. That gets me excited!
Don't you have a tree to hug?
I've been tree free for 2 months now.

Me thinks ur-ine sane!

Sounds like a porn star name.
If so, we are soon to be overrun by Pilgrims!
Not all, but most of these 5th year grad transfers aren't going to have a lot of stats to salivate over.
But their motivation and determination are great attributes. Experience and being able to help a position that needs a guy to step up is key.
He is on the staff's radar along with a couple of others. DJ Durkin obviously knows what Valdez is capable of and he is a Detroit native.
If we are lucky, we may get one or two. Until these kids graduate in late May things will be pretty quiet.
Magnus had a post about grad transfer wideouts on TTB and Showers was mentioned. Not sure he is an improvement on the guys we already have, but HARBAUGH.
He is mentinoed on the pay sites as well. Sounds like a logical landing place but far from a done deal.
I asked my UF friend who told me about nussmeier taking the UF job and he said he hasnt heard anything but he'll let me know if he does
I seen some tape of him and he can play and a huge upgrade to the WR core that we need some speed and that homerun type of WR so if he comes that should help out the skill guys.
How much tape of him can there be?
His career offensive stats are actually remarkably similar to Norfleet actually. So basically its Norfleet plus 3 inches taller. And hopefully has more straight line speed than Dennis.
Almost all his production was in 2013 (30 touches). He was basically frozen out in 2014 (3 touches).
Actually that and his high school tape that my cousin had of him when they payed against each other. Not much from him just flashes but he got speed and we need that.
He is #10 around 0:52
skip to 13:08

...which helps the plausibility...
Had a nice list of schools offering per this link:
https://www.gatorcountry.com/florida-gators-football/10-days-to-toledo-valdez-showers/
"This kid couldn't get any plays on michigan's crappy offense and he's supposed to be a starter on ours?"
I changed one word, and you can't argue with this version, either. It's one more potential bullet in the chamber.
You must have missed UM's 2014 offense....
We need more speed on the field, and that boy can run, if anything else.
Seems like a solid slot option to replace Norfleet.
It seems like there's some options out there for grad WRs. There is an obvious need there.
Florida had a rainout last year vs Idaho. Delayed for hours, field soaked, the opening kickoff went to Showers, who returned it inside the fifteen yard line. It was very appropriate. I think that was the only play of the game before it was called off.
Here is the full play from another angle.
And here is the footage from the telecast

played my town (Millington) his senior season in the playoffs. I remember him being pretty quick on the field
Showers was a 4-star to Scout and a 3-star to Rivals.
I'll take it...we need all the help we can get at that position. We have ZERO speed because Brady Hoke lives in 1996 where manball and WRs that are todays TEs were a dime a dozen.
It's to the point where if we have 2 grad transfer spots, Harbaugh needs to find every D1 grad transfer race and just take the fastest 2.
Our team speed on offense is embarrassing, in fact, it's a joke.

Once he left, it was truly a mess. Who was the fastest player Hoke ever recruited for offense? Norfleet? And he didn't even want him, he just had an extra scholarship.
Drake Johnson and Devin Funchess? Jeez Brady.
There is no reason we shouldn't have a speed RB and a couple of burners out at WR. You can still MANBALL everyone to death with some speed on the edge.
Gallon has talent, but has had knee trouble twice. Grady appears headed elsewhere.

He's a solid WR, I was impressed. That said, he provides nothing in the speed category. Kind of another Darboh.
Jabrill needs to play both ways. Ye' olde plain and simple. Not because he's a luxury but because it's a necessity . We will find an offensive weapon. 3rd and long...Harbaugh to Peppers. With a loaded defensive backfield he can get substituted and still be Dougie Fresh for the 4th quarter.
Probably the most likely grad transfer. They'd like to get one maybe two if they could. I think they are still over the scholarship limit.
That depends on whether walk-ons are counted or not. We're technically under the limit if guys like Glasgow, Glasgow, and Kerridge go back to walk-on status.
