OT - I am thankful for
There has been a lot of negativity this year (bad season, concussion gate, fire Brandon, fire Hoke, Frank Clark, etc). I think we need to take a break and consider all of the good things in our lives and about this community.
I personally am thankful for having a great family who made it possible for me to attend such a great University. I am thankful for the the Education this University gave me and the future it has created for me.
Remember, we are all maybe just a few stupid decisions (either ours or someone elses) away from having all this taken away from us.
What are you thankful for ?
EDIT: Sorry too many e's. Spelling goof.

I'm thankful for the saint of a common friend my parents had their freshman year in the dorms, who introduced them to each other and led them on the path to starting a family with six Michigan degrees between all of us, thousands of Michigan sporting events attended together, and a lot of really great Ann Arbor memories to go around.

I love Michigan sports, but I am much more thankful for the education I received and the friends I made at U of M. While sports is the easiest way to stay connected to the university, I find myself most proud of the myriad ways its contributes to society on a daily basis. It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

who was born on a rubber plantation in a village in Malaysia, supported his parents and 4 siblings from the age of 15, managed to get a full ride for graduate school at Cal-Berkeley, had me, eventually moved us to Ann Arbor when I was 3 years old, took over as chair of his department the next year, and finally stepped down last year after over 20 years--the longest tenure of a chair in LSA history.

I'm thankful I survived a rough upbringing, a stint in the Marines, and now have the pleasure of children and a wife who will never know the hell I went through to get our family to this point.

As of last week, two of my friends from high school - who also attended U of M with me - have passed away as a result of bile duct cancer.
I understand the passion that many of us feel for U of M sports (football and basketball, in particular), but some of you really need to step away and take a deep breath.
Maybe it's because I'm a bit older than most of you...or because of the losses and struggles I've experienced...but the lack of perspective around here sometimes amazes me.
So, while this is a bit of a corny topic for the board, it is a good reminder...and made me want to add my snark-free $.02.

My sympathies.
It (bile duct cancer) is not a "zebra," but it's close:

Quite uncommon in the absence of certain environmental factors ...
Anyway, your post resonated with me because I'm on the old side of this blog's population.

I am definitely thankful that I've finally found a few projects / responsibilities in my professional career that allow me to show the company some of the ways I can provide value and insight, but more importantly, that my family is well taken care of as a result.
I am also thankful that I get to help moderate a very good blog and support a great group of users.

I'm thankful for this post. I haven't posted much the last several months, as the negativity has been too much for me. However, like a moth drawn to the flame, I can't quite quit this blog. Thanks for your perspective.
Speaking of perspective, I'm thankful for time away from this blog to think about what is really important, which means I've spent more time with my family, more time doing things that matter, less time on the internet.
I'm thankful for the time I had in Ann Arbor, and thankful for so many blessings from God in this life. If I had to pick just a couple, I'd say I'm thankful that God is patient and forgiving, and I'm thankful for good people around me, from a wife and children to good friends. I think I'll just stop there.
