MSU now 5th in the Amway
national poll.
I have watch MSU twice and I can say that they are overrated and don't deserve to be in the top ten. MIchigan has a chance to beat them and would be a good bet if Vegas gives them them the anticipated 14 points.
Of course if DG doesn't play then they stand no chance.

questionable for the game?

Hoke said that he expects Gardner to be their QB against MSU.

Well, MSU is averaging 47 points/game (#3) and giving up 21.6 points/game (#35). Overrated or not, they're winning by almost 4 touchdowns a game.

Averaging Under 30 against teams that have any kind of a pulse is more like it.. Their 47 pts a game average is badly skewed by the 70+ they put up against a dogshit non conference team.
Scoring fewer than 30 against Nebraska and Oregon isn't going to impress the voters at the end of the year at all
October 20th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
Wait a minute...do you mean that teams average fewer points against good teams, and more points against bad teams?!?!?!?!
Mind. Blown.

Hold up, the national poll is sponsored by Amway? How appropriate. Also, I've been living under a rock since this is the first I've heard of it.

is when, right as you're about to crack the top 10, they change the rules and you need more teams underneath you to move up.
October 19th, 2014 at 3:31 PM ^
So State loses to the #2 team by 19 on the road, ND loses to a better and still-undefeated #2 team by 4 on the road, and State's better? Not to mention they're still ranked ahead of the team who beat them, at least in this joke of a poll. What marquee wins do they have? Surviving after almost blowing it against Nebraska? Yes, they're the best team in the B1G, but is that really saying anything? I just do not understand the love.

Na, it's just completely reactionary to each week. You can't explain rankings "logic."

A simple rule for ranking college football teams: You earn no style points when playing a 3rd string QB.

MSU's offense is on fire; their defense is still good, but nowhere near last year.
October 19th, 2014 at 4:36 PM ^
First having playing against a 3rd string QB helps your offense field position wise. There is no arguing that. 2nd Iowa just put up 45 on Indiana. Indiana's D is awful. Putting up points on them doesn't make your offense great. North Texas is awful and they put up 24 on Indiana.
October 19th, 2014 at 4:46 PM ^
Take away Indiana. They're still averaging 45.5 points/game.
October 19th, 2014 at 6:22 PM ^
take away the 70+ they scored on Eastern and what are they averaging?
Under 30 against 2 pretty average defenses isn't inspiring..
October 19th, 2014 at 6:50 PM ^
Doesn't change facts that they are much better than UM. We're averaging 43 points against those titans of CFB Appy St and Miami (NTM). I'd be thrilled to see UM scoring an average of over 30 points against average defenses. Against the power 5 teams they've played this year UM has scored a pedestrian 68 total points for an average of 13.6 pts, they're 108th in scoring!
If MSU only scores their average of 30 points against average defenses as you say, and we only score our average of 14 rounded up then we are still short 16 and state covers the spread.
How anyone can be arguing that this team can suddenly turn it on after the tire fire we've seen this season is beyond me. After 7 years of tire fires I'm at the point of I'll believe it when I start seeing it. The only team UM has played even close to what MSU is capable of is ND and they destroyed us 31-0. MSU hates us, I expect it to be higher if the results are similar.

Holy shit strawman, by arguing that msu is overrated nobody is saying that michigan is actually good or going to beat them. Saying I think msu is probably like the 20th best team in the country still makes them way better than michigan and also overrated, both can be true at the same time.
October 19th, 2014 at 3:36 PM ^
The game against MSU is going to be ugly - I would be happy if we were within two scores.
October 19th, 2014 at 3:54 PM ^
It's intresting to me that we've scored fewer and fewer points against them each year for the past decade.
It's going to irritate the hell out of me when we don't even sniff the red zone against them yet IU was able to put up 17 points.
October 19th, 2014 at 3:56 PM ^
I don't expect that we will be, but even if we were I still wouldn't be happy if that's all we have to cheer about. There are no moral victories.
October 19th, 2014 at 4:01 PM ^
Besides, you know how MSU plays when we step on the field with them. They could be ranked #1, we could be 0-6, and they'd still play with a huge chip on their shoulder. They won't just want to beat us. They'll want to humiliate us in every way possible.

none of the current top 10 are world beaters. Which is fine. There doesn't exist a compltely perfect football team, nor is there a clearly dominant team this year. For me, that just makes it all more exciting.

Coaches poll doesn't matter anyways. Indiana's defense sucks and now their offense does too. If MSU was in the SEC or Pac 12 they'd have three losses by now. It sucks that we can't take advantage of this crappy big ten.

The MSU team this year reminds me a lot of a Lloyd Carr Michigan team.
Above average QB, solid big RB, one tall WR that is exceptionally skilled. Decent defense, but is not going to take the game over. Manages to come close to losing 2-3 games per year against clearly inferior talent. Probably will drop a soft one before the season ends.
October 19th, 2014 at 6:45 PM ^
Yeah, that's not a good thing for Michigan.

What if MIchigan wins? Then we wouldn't have to worry about Sparty making any playoff. It would suck if they did because of the recruiting ramifications. This is shaping up to be a bad enough recruiting year already without Sparty being able to once again build a great team on players who should have gone to Ann Arbor.

Yeah, if someone from the B1G has to make the Playoff, I'd rather it be OSU, for the sole reason that they're going to out-recruit Michigan most years regardless. At the same time, though, until this program has competent coaching again, I really don't feel recruiting matters anymore.
