Prediction re: coaching change / AD firing

Submitted by michgoblue on
So, with everything we have seen in the past 8 days, including:

1. The Utah debacle
2. The media frenzy this week following said Utah debacle (SI, rolling stone, gameday, Desmond calling us out, and a ton more)
3. The alleged letter to the regents from former players, the complete and total shit show of this Minny game
4. Oh, I forgot, the ND debacle, since comparatively, it wasn't that bad
5. Morris concussion / injury management
6. Paying Morris when he clearly couldn't move the ball (even prior tithe injury)
7. The players only meeting tomorrow
8. The mattison / Hoke sideline fight
9. The rumored Nuss / Hoke locker room fight
10. The rumored divisions in the locker room (much of which was really evident from our sideline
11. 2013 - all of it (which, while not in the pat 8 days, isn't looking that bad right about now)

What is the prediction from this blog as to whether we see any changes in the coaching staff or AD, and if so, when?

My prediction: firing the ad takes a long time. I expect, though, that Hoke is gone on Monday. They will name either Nuss, mattison or even DB himself as interim and start a search immediately. Hoke's handling of the Morris injury gives DB the perfect excuse to fire hoke and take some heat off for the rest of the season.

and Brandon are not on a train come Monday then I will lose respect for anyone in charge at Michigan.  It will show me where their loyalties lie.  If those clowns are stil around then they are more concerned about money than wins.

I know I am emotional and possibly over reacting but DAMN THIS TEAM BLOWS.  IT"S BEEN ALMOST A DECADE since they have been good.

He has until the end of the year.  That's the Michigan way.  Also, Brandon has deeper claws into the university than just the football program, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Hoke fired after the season and see him still there as the AD.

Lets face the facts that there is no Michigan way anymore.  This team is more than a decade removed from relavency and quite frankly I am a die hard fan that is thinking about not watching anymore.  They have made no strides to stay relavent or win games it's an absolute joke what this program has become.  I think I may start watching wayne state or OU's club team.

USC had the luxury of naming an interim coach that was a long time assistant at USC, who once was the head coach of a major program. In addition, because he wasn't a coordinator, USC's coordinators could just focus on their side of the ball without worrying about spliting coordinator and head coaching duties or worrying about getting Kiffin'd weak in and out.

What would you propose? A 64 year old taking up all the defensive coordinator duties in addition to being a head coach? Certainitly we can't have Nuss as the interim, as he's got his hands full with his dumpster fire of an offense. Fred Jackson is stuck in 1997 I hate to say it, but Michigan doesn't have the Ed Orgeron option

I predict Brandon is gone in the next three weeks.  (Needs to happen that fast to get the AD interviewed and hired before OSU)  Hoke coaches out the season unless he quits or something super ugly that embarasses the University beyond losing or poor play.

Hoke won't get fired mid-season because Michigan doesn't operate that way.

A new AD is hired by the OSU game and, assuming the season unfolds as it looks now, Hoke is let go in the week after the OSU game.  All the behind the curtain conversations are had with the perspective candidates and hopefully the rumors about JH in Cali are true and he is announced as the next coach very shortly after the 49ers season ends.   Recruiting will suffer and next year my be ugly but given his track record, JH should turn this around pretty quickly.

Brandon isn't getting fired. I don't know the politics of how it works, but I'm assuming the president has at least a small say in that happening. Schlissel, from my understanding, could not care less about what happens on the football field, and even if he did, coming in your first year and cleaning house is a bold, bold move. I don't think he's really got the clout to pull something like that off, even if he wanted to. If he was able to, I'm assuming he wouldn't give our athletics a second's thought for his entire tenure.

I only see Schlissel stepping in and firing Brandon if there's some kind of scandal or DB flips off a school full of orphans.

That never works.  Unless, there's a lot more of the team fracturing, I think that's not happening.  The tickets have been sold, and there is plenty of time later to react for next year.

I'd favor firing the AD first and early to get someone in place who then could then conduct an adequate search.

And, is there anyone else out there who really doens't want to hear from any of the other players? The question needs to be asked as to what they've contributed to the success of the team since they've been gone.  I'm in favor of listening to the current players, but i don't know why the input of former players is anything more than noise at best and couterproductive at worse (which I suspect).

With regards to the former players, it isn't their current contributions so much that are of interest - because obviously they aren't playing for the team anymore - but the fact that they are a wing of the department's outside sales force, if you will. In other words, they help sell the program in their own right, and if it starts getting to a point where your living history is second-guessing what precisely is going on, it potentially means that they are slower to get donors and other folks involved. It might not be a comparatively huge number in terms of dollars, but the former players do a a little legwork.

You're acting as if they haven't already imploded.

This season is over. There's no point to the rest of these games. None.

2-10 is realistic possibility. The look like they're trying to give the team 80 years before them--the 1934 team--a run for their money.

Difference is, Harry Kipke was the coach of that team. He won two national championships. Hoke has won nothing and is not a coach. He is a millionaire clapper.

If Mattison leaves because Hoke is fired, then let him go.  There is no excuse for what took place today on the field and Hoke's complete and utter display of incompetence in the post game comments.  He must be removed for what transpired in the Morris incident immediately.

He could barely stand at one point and looked totally dazed and confused.

I think I'm going to bring a Fire Brandon sign next game. His stooges and yes men will probably confiscate it, though.

Hoke will coach next week, and the week after, et cetera, through the end of the season. DB will be back next year. Hoke won't be, but unless DB is gone, not much will really change because we won't get a top-rate coach as long as the top AD position remains filled by Brandon.

Isn't that nice?

Apologize to him for being such candy ass prisses in canning him the first time.  Sure he's 73, but he'd be fine for the interim.  And I'd say he has forgotten more about winning than BH has ever known.

In the pre-Internet era.  Compared to Hoke's shitstorm, a comparatively minor PR problem.  I mean this: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/9/27/6855599/brady-hoke-left-a-clearly-concussed-shane-morris-in-the-game-has-no is the worst indictment one can make of a college football coach.  Not winning?  Fine.  Cheating?  Fine.  Willfully endanger 19-yr-old kids?  There's no coming back from that.

What, Roger Sherman can perform diagnoses by watching television?  Does he moonlight as Doctor Gregory House?  While I agree with his greater point, it was irresponsible for him to make such a specific statement without diagnostic evidence.  Seemingly Concussed or Possibly concussed would have been far more appropriate and responsible.

The lions made an error not keeping him, set them back yet another 5 yrs minimum... He's not the answer for Michigan. If Michigan really wants to be elite, not just full of shit, they need to decide who is in the top 5 in the game at any level, open the purse and pay to right this ship.

For some reason I fear DB won't get fired. He seems like one of those people that holds on to their job no matter what happens. Maybe he has dirt on some of the influential donors? I hope I am wrong but DB seems to have that Teflon vibe where nothing sticks to him no matter how bad it becomes.

Shit needs to change. I live in Alabama and all my friends talk so much shit about us now. What's worse is that I'm almost numb to it, until tonight. All of my National Guard and ROTC buddies have a college pick 'em going on. We have all picked Michigan the last few games and been let down.... Tonight, the guys said they won't pick Michigan again this year.... While my love for this team prohibits me from picking another team, it hurt me to hear that. It shouldn't be like this.
