Better stadium experience
1) the biggest improvement for me was the NCAA scoreboard scrolling through the games across the country all game long on the scoreboards. I absolutely love this as now I can kind of keep in touch when I'm over at a game.
2) my cell service was pretty excellent all game. Was able to send and receive texts without the difficulty I had noticed in past
3) improvements at the concessions. I only got a pretzel but they were a lot bigger and way better than in years past.
What say you guys??

The female in the booth said he ran a 4.2 forty during the first half.
Suddenly it became a 4.1 in the second half in his business suit and presumable Keds.
Was she packing her nose or what?

Anyway, she also mocked Joey Galloway's ego by saying something to the effect of "well, maybe a race would settle who's fastest, but we know who's the most confident."

Were you towards the top/bottom or middle. I thought the read out of the soccer game was that the middle would still be a problem because they couldn't get attenaes close enough.

I certainly agree with 1 & 3. I have absolutely no desire to bring my phone to the game (I realize anybody under 30 thinks that is insane), so I don't know about #2 one way or the other. I'm glad it's better; hopefully that will eliminate cell phone reception as an excuse to not show up.
The one thing that I thought was worse than last year was the apparent need to fill in every moment with noise over the PA system. It has reached the point where you couldn't hear a single announcement from the referee all game, because there was always music playing when he was talking--even after reviewed plays, when they should know to shut the music off.

In all seriousness, thanks for sharing...I think it's important for everyone to note these subtle, but important improvements.
Nice that we're making tweaks to make the experience better for the fans.

there were speakers when at the flagpole end of the stadium. The audio delay is noticable when seated over there. Half time shows and mic'd band performances are a problem.

They aren't soft. The one I got at halftime was hard and overcooked and I saw what looked like the same level of done-ness at the other stands.

1) totally agree about the scores....much better
2) in row 52...horrible text coverage. Left the seats at halftime to grab some food and suddenly got about 12 texts that had been sent to me during the first quarter but I hadn't received while sitting in the stadium
3) the concession stand I chose was a bit disorganized...lots of workers but also lots of people looking for pizza (on the menu board) to be told 'no pizza'. That slowed the line down a bit. Ended up getting hot dogs which were delicious and probably much better than the pizza would have been.
Not complaining b/c football saturday isn't about food/texting, but responding to the questions about gameday experience at the stadium. My day was tremendous and the text/pizza issues did nothing to impact my tremendous day.
Also noticed much fewer 'please cast your attention on the north endzone' breaks in which they usually introduce the volleyball team or something. Once for a Vietnam vet (awesome) and once for the boy who carried his little brother 40 miles on his back (also awesome).

They showed video highlights of other games on the scoreboard, such as Navy scoring against OSU.
I wasn't impressed with the halftime show. Blatant product placement from Buffalo Wild Wings. Show much for no adds in the stadium. #marketing

were very well done. They finally got it right, with very large easy-to-read down and distance that were updated quickly nearly every play (only noticed once that they failed on this), a rolling scoreboard in lower left-hand quarter, better graphics and fonts and overall arrangement. Big win for the fans there!
The only glaring negative on the video boards was the over-use of the 'GET LOUD!!!' prod. Do we really have to be told when to cheer and make noise?
Still too much piped-in RAWK, but at least no 7-Nation and Pop Evil.

Did anyone listen to the (great) radio broadcast in the stadium? Was it close to in sync with the game? I know the radio itself should be fine but I listened to the app while watching a muted TV. I had to finesse the pause/play/FFwd to get the radio in-sync with the TV.

My dad said that they seemed pretty synchronized.
"Definitely better than before."

Loved the scoreboard improvements. Went the entire game without service, though. (I have Sprint, FWIW.)
How was the cell service/data for those of you with Verizon/AT&T?
August 30th, 2014 at 5:51 PM ^
Verizon, row 52, more or less no service in the stadium.
Not complaining, don't need it during the game.

phone. ATT was lightning fast. I could not believe it. I was able to read the live blog in real time. No question an upgrade.
Sprint had no service. I thought Sprint and Verison used the same technology and equipment. I was in row 14.
So I guess I will use my ATT phone and take an external power source moving forward.

The other scoreboard improvement was the large down-distance-yard line window along the bottom. And they updated it quickly.
The in-game highlights from the OSU and Iowa games were very cool.
And I don't think I heard Sweet Caroline once.

1 call and a half-dozen texts with no problem up in row 79, where both used to be a problem with AT&T. Didn't try anything needing a data stream, though.

I thought they had my ipod plugged in to the speakers. Still a little overboard on music when it comes to breaks, but at least the there was different and better songs (in my opinion). AND NO SEVEN NATION ARMY! And I like Til I Collapse before the team runs out of the tunnel better than Thunderstruck.
edit: Also the band entrance video and team entrance video both get A pluses from me. IT'S SATURDAY!

I like the song, in fact it's a great song but MSU has used it prior to their teams run out for over a decade. Having Michigan adopt in in 2013 just isn't right so I am glad they changed it.
August 31st, 2014 at 10:48 AM ^
I'm pretty sure we used it longer than that (in basketball too) but yeah, it's overused around the country.
