I'm loving seeing Jim tonight. You can tell he's normally got 100 things running through his head. He's likely thinking about the next game, the next challenge, etc. Tonight, he's just taking time to enjoy it. His joy is my joy. It's contageous.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:28 AM ^
I disagree. I think this man is Living in the moment. I don’t think he’s thinking anything else asides from winning tonight. The guy is what the world needs a reflection on.
January 9th, 2024 at 7:40 AM ^
That's what he said
January 9th, 2024 at 1:31 AM ^
Makes me think back to 2018, 2019, and 2020 when many folks, including those here on the blog, were concerned with both his physical and mental health. And to their point, he visibly looked like a man that had been beaten down by his dedication to his love of football while not winning the big games.
Truly a Michigan Man and a testament to the statement that Those Who Stay, Will Be Champions.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:50 AM ^
wow SVP just caught me in the feels right there
January 9th, 2024 at 12:51 AM ^
If he comes back…
Look out college football!
I sent this to buddies at halftime:
Imagine winning it all, getting multiple $100M+ offers for NFL, and saying… nah, I love Michigan
January 9th, 2024 at 12:54 AM ^
Caught that too. His lips to gods ears!
January 9th, 2024 at 12:56 AM ^
God's ear
January 9th, 2024 at 12:59 AM ^
Why not both ears?
January 9th, 2024 at 1:26 AM ^
Yeah to both ears. And copy the other 2 in the Trinity too.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:54 AM ^
He could come back and have a hell of a team next year. Obviously some big holes to fill but I'd love to see a contract and stability.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:23 AM ^
I would guess that there is a reasonable chance JJ might be back.
January 9th, 2024 at 9:06 AM ^
If Harbaugh is back, decent chance JJ is back as well as Donovan.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:55 AM ^
Certainly a good sign at the very least.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:55 AM ^
He also had about a million times to say he was back for sure and didn't
I'm just enjoying the night and the season. Anything else is just the cherry on top
January 9th, 2024 at 1:17 AM ^
Because he doesn’t want to take away from the team’s moment.
We will know sometime this week what his plans are. Have to really.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:46 AM ^
SQ, not to brag but was I right or was I right?
You still want DeBoer? Want that soft defense and an offensive line that folds against an elite defensive line? I get not trusting Moore with the keys to the Ferrari but DeBoer’s team looked soft. We’d get eaten alive.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:55 AM ^
What DeBoer has achieved at Washington since 2021 is very impressive. He seems like a great coach.
We were just better. And that’s as it should be.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:57 AM ^
His style is all offense, no defense. He’s a winner but no way his style translates well to the Big Ten and physicality.
January 9th, 2024 at 2:38 AM ^
His defense did pretty well tonight, Michigan struggled to get open all game. Some of that was play calling but they played well after the 1st quarter.
January 9th, 2024 at 6:56 AM ^
Exactly. It would deflect attention away from the moment and the players.
January 9th, 2024 at 12:55 AM ^
saw that. heard that. he's canny, he's an autistic genius, but i think that was a definite strooonnnggg clue about signing a contract.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:17 AM ^
Thought the same thing. He’s SO careful with everything he says.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:49 AM ^
I wouldn’t read anything either way into what he says tonight, that man is not on this earth right now
January 9th, 2024 at 12:59 AM ^
The championship may help in him coming back because he has a solid foundation in place now and the fans love him. That may not be the case in a NFL city.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:01 AM ^
I hope, my goodness, I hope.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:05 AM ^
Imagine, we could just be at the beginning of a decade of dominance.
If Jim is the kind of man I think he is, he'll be at Michigan until he hangs up his cleats. What could possibly be a better legacy?
January 9th, 2024 at 1:07 AM ^
If Jim decides to leave, I'll root for him wherever he goes, even Chicago.
But I did take the "start a month later" as giving himself time for a decision/interviews, etc.
Either way, Michigan will be fine.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:08 AM ^
Stay, Jim, and keep the greatest modern era of Michigan football rolling.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:10 AM ^
We'll see. He seemed a little reluctant to commit to an answer. But it sounds like he isn't shutting the door on another season.
At the end of the interview, he got the team number wrong ;) He said team 142. Although, really is kind of fitting. This team just finished up the business that was left undone by 142. So sort of true.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:19 AM ^
Yea, caught that too…bit surprising but who cares…we just WON THE NATTY!
January 9th, 2024 at 1:13 AM ^
I sure hope this was an unusual slip of the tongue from Jim. He is the best coach for Michigan. He is great for college football and if he stays will change a lot for the players with his voice and dedication to what is deserved. I hope he stays here and coaches until he is 90 years old. Go Blue!
January 9th, 2024 at 1:17 AM ^
Yes, good to hear that. But, I'm waiting to see what the Raiders do with their coaching situation and for some Todd Anson tweets to drop before I get too stoked.
January 9th, 2024 at 1:22 AM ^
Guys, I'm enjoying this championship, not worrying about who is head coach next year. Because the program is likely in good shape next year, no matter who the head coach is.
Harbaugh is the CEO right now. It's the CEOs job to determine if there is going to be one month or two months off between the final game and Spring Practice. You don't just wing it, you have a schedule.
All that to say, I wouldn't take his words as any sign one way or another what his plans are.
And just a personal feeling: I don't honestly care. If he leaves I wouldn't blame him, and I'll also feel good about the Michigan program as long as certain key staff is retained. And frankly, after tonight, I could probably have this be my college football sunset season and not go through the big emotions any more. Watch as a more casual fan.
So satisfied right now. Didn't think the Kharmic scales would ever balance for UM football. May be time to color my chips now that I'm finally in the emotional black
January 9th, 2024 at 1:28 AM ^
I looked at my wife, and was like "Did I actually hear that?"
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO!
January 9th, 2024 at 1:50 AM ^
Saw it but wouldn't read much into it - could have signed a contract a month ago and put this all to bed and not have to deal with it on signing day on where he is going. Whatever he decides I understand. Very few men have won a SB and CFB NC (I believe 4) so he could chase that carrot. I think he is better built for CFB with his personality as it can wear on 27 year old men who are with him for 7 years vs 19 year olds who max out at 5 years.
Moore is an emotional leader I get it but the heart v mind is important. Minter just led one of the best defenses we have seen - if he doesnt hate recruiting and wants to stay in CFB - would prefer he be HC.
Not going to fuss either way - this is not Bama with the cheating and no one going to school or OSU with the cheating and online school of basket weaving.
We had the best 3 year run in the program since well, 50+ years ago. Whatever happens happens at this point. 10 year grace period at this point being realistic on the landscape of cheaters and $$ and many programs not requiring their players to care a bit about school.
January 9th, 2024 at 4:26 AM ^
If Harbaugh leaves I don't want someone without HC experience. There's a lot of good candidates out there that we can probably get. I don't think all three of Jedd Fisch, DeBoer, and Leipold say no if we come calling.
January 9th, 2024 at 9:49 AM ^
Thar would be my short list too. I love our coordinator but this is Michigan. We don't need to hire someone who has never done the HC job before.
January 9th, 2024 at 2:58 AM ^
I'd like to have a future too.
January 9th, 2024 at 5:45 AM ^
I think the OP is being a bit optimistic. Hearing a lot of the Harbaugh interviews, to me, it sounds more like he is really going to take some NFL interviews and if he is offered, I believe he is leaving.
I feel that Harbaugh leaving will rip this program apart. Right now, it is bad enough that a lot of the leaders of this team are either out of eligibility or are eligible to turn pro and may grade as a high draft pick. Every team has to work through a reload but losing Harbaugh plus whoever follows him to the pros, I think would really hurt this program. Next year's schedule is not a cream puff, and you can add Washington to the list of schools who have been bullied and are looking for some payback.
There may be no more games on the schedule but until Harbaugh signs that extension, I don't think the wild ride of this season is over.
