The end is nigh for the NCAA.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:36 PM ^
What does this all mean in layman's terms?
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:38 PM ^
They’re being sued by a lot of people in the same case.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
Maurice Clarett is the prophet in our times
November 4th, 2023 at 12:51 AM ^
That these eight words are true speaks to the truly bizarre era of college football we are witnessing.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
Basically the NCAA is going to be on the hook for billions in any lawsuit by former college players. At least that is my understanding of it.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
The NCAA is going to have pay out an absolute ton of damages from just about every bit of revenue from 2016 onwards, for violating NIL laws.
$4.2 billion at stake. Thousands of athletes could get something.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:43 PM ^
Not just the NCAA. It says "NCAA and the major conferences." So if it comes to pass, any semblance of what we know could break apart (more than it already has).
November 4th, 2023 at 7:12 AM ^
Certainly football as well as men's and women's basketball players will be eligible, if they choose to opt into the class. Other sports will be too, but I'm not sure what the criteria for class membership will be. A Pac 10 swimmer is one of the named plaintiffs.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:53 PM ^
And potentially that they will be on the hook to share in tv revenue.
November 4th, 2023 at 12:30 AM ^
Yup and the judge specifically said 10%
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:58 PM ^
$4.2 billion at stake
That's a lot of cheeseburgers
November 4th, 2023 at 10:07 AM ^
The NCAA is clearly in the wrong in this.
Every Michigan fan should point this out as much as possible. Too many people buy NCAA propaganda that the NCAA has a moral high ground of bringing in billions of revenue while restricting players from cash compensation, many of those players come from poverty and will never go pro.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
Steve Berman, one of the plaintiffs’ lead attorneys, told USA TODAY Sports by email: It “potentially means that student athletes will share (in) broadcast revenues, ticket sales and endorsement deals. It’s a huge potential change in the NCAA and student-athletes relationship.”
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:57 PM ^
Well, there is at least one coach who supports revenue sharing.
November 4th, 2023 at 1:34 AM ^
And now we know the rest of the story.
November 4th, 2023 at 6:58 AM ^
and is rumored to have it as a condition in his contract extension
November 4th, 2023 at 7:29 AM ^
Exactly what Harbaugh has been preaching.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
It’s fucking Wagner. No one really understands it.
Oh, sorry. Thought you were talking about the title.
November 4th, 2023 at 12:00 AM ^
...but if we are, shouldn't there be a second m in Götterdämmerung?
I mean, props for both umlauts, but...this IS Michigan ferGodsakes
November 4th, 2023 at 12:03 AM ^
Don’t you have a football game to worry about Mr. Hoke?

Touché
November 4th, 2023 at 6:36 AM ^
I want that crescendo playing right when Harbaugh lifts the glass football trophy.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:38 PM ^
What's that, Charlie? You can't afford lawyers to investigate Michigan? Gee, that's a shame.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
Attorneys for the NCAA and the conferences had written in legal filings that the athletes are seeking more than $1.4 billion. The filings did not specify whether that figure takes into account the tripling of damages awards that occurs in successful antitrust cases. If it does not, then more than $4.2 billion could be at stake in the case.
Sweet Fancy Moses.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:44 PM ^
Wow. Same judge who was unanimously upheld by the Supreme Court on related case.
Enormous potential consequences
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
I'll cross my fingers for a Harbaugh amicus brief.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:45 PM ^
Burn it down. Start with Stapleton.
November 4th, 2023 at 1:36 AM ^
Just use his actions as the fuse.
November 4th, 2023 at 1:46 AM ^
Just use his ass* as the fuse.
FIFY
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
If Michigan drags out litigation in this case long enough, there may no longer be an NCAA to enforce anything
November 4th, 2023 at 12:06 AM ^

THIS
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:46 PM ^
1.4 billion divided by 7000 is $200K. Triple it to $600K. Now see it shrink in settlement talks to $300k…and lawyers fees take it down to $150k…and carve out some for the other 8000 and it’s probably $100k each, paid out three years from now…NPV of say $85k? Don’t the real typical numbers here, but class suits never seem to end up as good as they first sound.
November 4th, 2023 at 12:42 AM ^
That's a lot better than the standard class action where you get something like $10 each (commercial litigation atty btw)
November 4th, 2023 at 4:42 AM ^
Navin Johnson had to pay $1.09 to each and every customer of Optigrab.
November 4th, 2023 at 10:19 AM ^
Just leave the NCAA with an ashtray, paddle game, matches, lamp, magazine, chair and remote control
November 4th, 2023 at 9:01 AM ^
True, but it will put things right for current and future student athletes.
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:47 PM ^
Haha. Fuck the NCAA
November 3rd, 2023 at 11:48 PM ^
Friday night news dump truck is doing some serious overtime. Such a fascinating time to be a Michigan fan.

November 4th, 2023 at 12:01 AM ^
ordinarily you wouldn't have to post that here but there ARE a lot of buckeye lurkers these days
wouldn't know the difference between Wagner Lieder and Yevgeny Prigozhin
