OT- A day late, but this came up on my FB memories..
Just had to share this snippet from the past— 14 years ago, a middle schooler me is going crazy on a now-cringey Facebook post after Michigan’s last-minute W over ND back in 2009.
Apparently nobody else in my Facebook feed at the time was excited about it lol, I but I hope you guys did and still do appreciate the win as much as I do. Definitely one of my favorite games to go back and watch.
That poor ND defender’s ankles..

Tate peaked that day.

*peacked

Tate actually peaked a couple of weeks later at Michigan State. Michigan lost the game in OT but Forcier took on a game tying drive that can only be described as "heroic." In a driving rain, running for his life on every play and getting blasted on half of them. Honestly thought the kid was going to pass out. Definitely worth a watch if you don't remember it.

It was impressive what he was able to do on that last drive. If not for his awful interception in overtime, that game might be remembered even more than the ND game when looking back at his career.

Forgot about that pick.

Watching that comeback from near the top of the upper deck at Spartan Stadium was incredible. :)
Watching that INT and the subsequent MSU touchdown (untouched no less) was decidedly not incredible. :(

Neither here nor there, but there’s a classic book called “How to Win Friends and Influence People” you may want to read. It worked for Charlie Manson, it can work for you!!!

No kidding, it’s currently collecting dust on my book shelf. Might need to brush it off as I’m feeling a bit too poor and friendless for my liking.

I mean, while you were only 14, you should have at least garnered a few pity likes, maybe from an aunt or a cousin or something! ;-)

I too had a similar Facebook status on that day. Mine read: "MICHIGAN FOOTBALL IS BACK. Tate Forcier is a legend in the making!"

TBF, yours is far cringy-er in retrospect.

Tate Forcier *is* legend.

My old Facebook got deactivated because it was compromised and they wanted me to share a government ID to recover it. I decided to let it go, but I miss those "on this day" posts.
Also, I wouldn't feel too embarrassed about going all caps over a great game. I think too often that people will see someone get excited about something exciting and call it "cringe." In many cases, you shouldn't destroy the part of you that makes you cringe, you should destroy the part of you that cringes.

I was actually wondering what made this post cringey. The fact that he was wrong about Michigan being back? Being exuberant over a big win? Just not seeing the cringe factor.

Wow, middle Schooler had a pretty foul mouth. I bet you’re graduating to saying things like gosh, darn, and jeepers! It’s a sad trail to trouble….

HEACK YEA!!!!!!!! The spelling error memorialized for all time since the internet is forever.
Also, I noticed how Secret Agent Mayne blotted out his name so he can continue in his career as a secret agent. Wouldn't it be a shame if he was outed on MGoBlog and ended up getting pulled from the field and working a desk job for the rest of his life?

Mods plz delete this unnecessarily filth-laden comment.
Otherwise I can blot those out too.

My only Notre Dame friend posted on my wall that day and it, too, showed up in my FB memories today. He was very gracious in his concession speech.

Here's a couple of pictures I have in my Google photos from that game, seems like such a different place with all the Adidas gear, old box still in, and the old old scoreboards.

I miss the old press box with the rounded "Michigan Stadium" on top. From an aesthetic standpoint, I don't think we utilize enough yellow (or maize) on the interior of the stadium.
Also, that shot gives a pretty good vantage point of the transition from the old to the new.

I'm with you. That old press box was beautiful.

Gorgeous old press box, and especially historical when you remember it was the long-time 2nd home of the great Bob Ufer.

Oh man, I get those memory things popping up every so often and wonder why I ever thought typing random exclamations as facebook status updates after a big play or touchdown was a "thing" to do. Definitely gives me a 'dude-get-off-the-internet-and-go-talk-to-real-people' cringe feeling looking back at them now.
September 13th, 2023 at 12:27 PM ^
I didn't do it after every play or anything, but as for sharing exuberance over a big win, that's how my old college friends and I communicated b/c we were (and still are) scattered around the country. Now there's whats app or other channels, but FB was the thing 15 years ago. We'd have epic discussions about coach Carr, Rod, Hoke, etc. on FB.

Because Twitter wasn’t around?

Any win over Notre Dame fills my heart with endless joy.

I remember that day very well. That was the day my wife, with whom I was hoping to reconcile, came over to the house to tell me that she had decided to end our marriage. A very odd day. I continued to watch the game as a distraction. Went crazy when we won, but then reality sank in soon thereafter.

I'll never have trouble remembering that day and game—my mom passed away that afternoon.
She was 92 and had been in poor health for several years (mostly due to congestive heart failure), so it wasn't exactly a surprise that she passed, but it's still a wrenching event when it does occur.
My brother and I were with her when she passed, and after the formalities and forms were finished with, I went outside the hospital to clear my mind. I still remember the clear blue sky and brilliant, warm sun, and turning on my car radio just in time to hear the final winning drive. A bizarre mixture of grief over the passing of a parent mixed with elation over a football game.

Those juxtapositions definitively help keep things like football wins/losses in perspective.

Damn. Sorry bro.
