Your Early Thoughts on Michigan vs. Nebraska?
MSU week is over, Rutgers is over...on to the next.
Michigan vs. Nebraska, 3:30pm on ABC.
Early thoughts? Expectations?
It sounds like a number of the guys (Hayes, Green, etc.) who were held out against Rutgers will be ready (although Keegan may sit this one - IMO, he absolutely should to be ready for the last two).

I think I will enjoy watching it. Then I will remember 1997, and the abomination of giving half the National Championship to Tom Osborne as a retirement gift. And then remember little big mouth Scottie Frost getting tossed out on his ass earlier this year.
And I will enjoy it even more.

I'd add "you'll think about Scott Frost's mom too and enjoy it even MORE" but that sounds pretty peculiar so maybe I'll just link to the salient article: https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/why-we-don%27t-scott-frost%27s-mom

OTOH, looking at her bio, she is kind of a badass

25 years later and I'm still annoyed by the Mizzou game in 97 - that BS endzone kick that should've been called off.

Scotty doesn't know.

Would've enjoyed this much more if Frost were still coach. Not much point of having an interim coach if there's zero chance they're interested in hiring him.

It could be a good game to continue to grow the passing game considering that Nebraska’s pass defense is bad, but their rush defense is even worse so I expect Michigan to continue to do what they’ve been doing all along. The weather is going to actually be November like as well which could play into it.
We’ll move the ball at will other than the few times we may shoot ourselves in the foot. Whether it’s a 30pt showing or a 50pt showing comes down to whether Moody is kicking FGs or XPs.
Obviously hoping to see the red zone success continue. And I really want to see one of these deep shots finally connect. Give me more than 1-2 attempts at it though.
Looking forward to a 3:30 game as well.
November 8th, 2022 at 8:25 AM ^
With a high of 39 predicted for next Saturday and 10-20 MPH winds and a 3:30 stat, will the passing game be a bit iffy?
Makes you appreciate having Corum and Edwards.

NE is so bad vs the run I think everything will be working on O. UM should dominate the trenches on both sides. Maybe they'll work on the pass, but it won't matter much. NE might make a few plays on O if Casey Thompson is back but even if he is, their mistakes will mount and the game will be well in hand in Q3.

Michigan will win.
November 8th, 2022 at 8:08 AM ^
... and in some way or somehow, Nebraska will poop the bed.

Yes. Going to be quadruple layering. I've got a 3X hockey jersey that works well for an outer layer. My wife is going to be miserable though.

Michigan will continue to do what they do best which is slam the ball repeatedly down Nebraska's throat until they die a slow agonizing death.
I'm really enjoying the ability to simply beat our opponents to death. Toughest Michigan football team I've ever seen.
November 8th, 2022 at 8:39 AM ^
NE's D may have difficulty making it slow and agonizing.

Courtesy of the Biff Poggi article today in The Athletic. It would seem the Michigan coaching staff is actively trying to develop a team as you describe DB:
After Poggi’s St. Frances team went 2-0 against IMG, he told Harbaugh about something he felt had made a difference. “We do something called the ‘East Baltimore Drill’ every day,” Poggi said. In football terms, it was really “Inside Drill,” or Football 101, football in the trenches. Pads popping. No passes. Just a smash-mouth running game. No blitzing. No slanting.
“We do it every day because we know IMG isn’t doing it every day,” Poggi told him. “We know they’re running skelly and parading around their billion-dollar facility.”
When Poggi returned to Ann Arbor last year, he was delighted to learn that Michigan had created the “Beat Ohio Period.” They do it every Tuesday, and there is no more important practice period at Michigan.
“It’s the only time at practice we ever had music and the music amplified things,” Gattis said. “You know immediately when that whistle blew and the music started blaring, it was on. It was the most physical part of any practice that I’ve ever seen. It was, by far, the best thing we did.”

Pretty cool that Gattis chimed in with a really insightful quote.
I hope he pulls it together at Miami.

The toughness aspect is huge. For years, word in college football circles was that we could be pushed around, so it's great that we are clearly "playing with that edge", as others have said. It's important, especially against OSU.

I think the Total Eclipse of the Moon is beautiful.
November 8th, 2022 at 5:43 AM ^
But don't just take my word for it, go outside and enjoy it for a few minutes while you can (it's in the western sky until 6:42 am eastern standard time.). There won't be another one until March of 2025.
I'll even provide the soundtrack to enjoy it with: https://youtu.be/WZtfsfoKSB0

cloud cover here low on the horizon. no can see right now. bummer.
EDIT: clouds cleared. it is full-on right now. very cool.
November 8th, 2022 at 9:00 AM ^
We have two days of cloudy skies per year out here in Kansas-this was one of those days.
November 8th, 2022 at 8:02 AM ^
Saw it early this morning in Ann Arbor, where it was pretty clear. Beautiful.
November 8th, 2022 at 8:51 AM ^
Perfectly clear skies in SE MI for a change. Went out at about 5:20am and saw the eclipse at it's peak with the added bonus of seeing the space station pass over at 5:26am.
November 8th, 2022 at 10:16 AM ^
that wasn't the space station. that was michael barrett working on his vertical.
November 8th, 2022 at 10:26 AM ^
Barrett didn't need a space suit either. Because Barrett.

Is Nebraska really the Midwest though? I thought of it more as part of the Plains region.

At this point, just win the game and stay healthy. Style points aren’t necessary.

Early Nebraska thoughts...
Will miss the regular humbling of Scott Frost the coach for all his boasting as a player
My one time visiting Memorial Stadium for a game (Denard injury game), I found their fans to be annoyingly too nice.
3 out of the 4 trophies given out for the national championship in 1997 were won by Michigan
Ecker, pitch it to Breaston!!!
November 8th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
I was there for that game as well. That's why I can't really hate Nebraska too much. The way they treat Michigan fans in Lincoln is such a stark contrast to how we're treated in pretty much every other B1G city, where anyone wearing maize and blue is likely to be hit with a beer can (at a minimum). Them Huskers is good folk.
November 8th, 2022 at 12:06 PM ^
I was on the Nebraska equivalent of RCMB after Frost got fired just to see the fans' reactions. I ended up with 3 cavities and I'm now pre-diabetic.
It was quite refreshing. Someone started bad mouthing a previous coach (maybe Solich? I don't remember). There might have even been a gosh darn thrown in there. Immediately a number of accounts spoke up and said we don't talk bad about people who are no longer here. We're grateful for what they gave us and are moving forward. I remember learning things like that from my parents, Sunday school teachers, pastor (who was also my dad) and others. When did we move away from that as a society?
November 8th, 2022 at 1:33 PM ^
What is the Nebraska equivalent of RCMB? I just realized that I have no concept of the Nebraska blogosphere. I'm sure they must have a pretty big and active one, given how passionate their fanbase is.
November 8th, 2022 at 4:42 PM ^
You answered your own question just before you asked it.
November 8th, 2022 at 6:11 AM ^
45-13 Michigan. Nebraskas lines are horrible and they will be punished.
November 8th, 2022 at 6:14 AM ^
I'm excited because it's going to be my first time in the Big House since the 2019 Notre Dame game (I also went to the BTCG in Indianapolis last year but didn't make it to Michigan stadium sadly). I can't wait!
Also Michigan is going to beat the crap out of Nebraska but the scoreboard may not tell the full story at halftime. The 2nd half will then look like Clubs vs Baby Seals.

Michigan will out hit them and it’s sad that Scott Frost won’t be there to see it.

Take solace, he’ll still be salty as hell for the rest of his life.
November 8th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
I think his $15 million should buy him more than enough tissues to wipe away the salt.
