F*** Ohio State
First of all, I know it’s Staee week, but I have to vent after yesterday.
The Bucks are up 30 going into the 4th against a team that thinks first downs give you herpes, and yet they keep their offensive starters in. They get the ball, and almost immediately throw a bomb for a touchdown. Now up 37.
They get the ball back with under 12 minutes in the game at Iowa’s 40, and keep their starters in. Pass. Pass. Pass. Pass. Run. Run (on fourth down at the 11 yard line). Pass. WR Run. Pass for TD. Now up 44. Finally take the starters out.
Bullies. Poor sportsmanship. Cynically trying to get Stroud better numbers for the Heisman race.
Yes, it’s Iowa’s job to stop them. But call me what you will, but Harbaugh would never embarrass a fellow Big Ten coach like that, and I greatly prefer that. The starters would have been out of there the entire 4th quarter.
Make no mistake here, the Bucks are villains, and I want to see them ground into dust.
Rant over.

I mean it might be but I’m always on board for a F Ohio state thread. I don’t even need a reason.

Still trying to make up for not hanging 100 on us.

Calling a football team "bullies" is lame.

Yeah, I think the motive was keeping their 50 point per game scoring streak going. It was apparent at the half, that their offensive numbers were offensive for a team allegedly being led by a Heisman candidate.
I mean even if Iowa was pathetically inept on offense and kept handing the ball back to OSU, seemingly at will, the defense kept making the scoring stats look less than dominating by comparison.
October 23rd, 2022 at 1:01 PM ^
I really don’t want to have to defend Ohio or change the narrative that they are just vile human beings.
But the truth is, they pass because they couldn’t run against Iowa. The pass play they call is only determined by where the defense sets up. And finally, they run-up the score so that if they have one loss at the end of they year, they can still make the playoff.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:34 PM ^
Bold or not prediction: Stroud wins the Heisman…he is also yet another bust at QB from OSU. I don’t get it. Obviously I don’t know him personally but my gut tells me he doesn’t have the toughness and fire to make it on the NFL. We already know his numbers are inflated so I’m going to go with the eye test on him and conclude he’s yet another stat monster at OSU who is nowhere near as valuable as he’s getting credit for. He is a product of his teams offensive talent overall and the scheme/style they play. I think Fields and Haskins (barely) were better than Stroud. I really hope the Lions don’t get him somehow
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:46 AM ^
Fine, then I'll call them for what they truly are... narcissistic A$$H****. No respect for the game only self interests.
I only could shake my heads and scoff when King Narcissist himself tried to defend Prince Narcissist plays calls (let alone leaving the starters in up 30+ points in the 4th quarter) by boldly stating he was only attempting to pump up CJ stats at the end.
How King Narcissist has a spot at the Fox table is unbelievable.

Harbaugh made sure to tack another TD on in the Big10 Title Game last year after the game was in hand but your story is fun. Teams will do what’s they think is in their own best interest.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:17 AM ^
That was with our reserves. The second string should be allowed to run the normal offense.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
McNamara also threw a TD pass with 5 minutes to play in a game that was over. I hate the Buckeyes just as much as everyone else but Harbaugh knew it would look good to the CFP committee and he cut Iowa’s throat and he should have.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:16 PM ^
Are you talking about against Iowa? If so we were already locked into the playoffs so unless he told you personally his motives I ask how is it you can make this statement with some sort of authority?
October 24th, 2022 at 8:55 AM ^
We were locked into the playoffs but you can always keep playing for a higher seed. Could've earned a match up against UC instead of GA (but alas it did not).
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:38 AM ^
Your dumb rationale undermines the entire concept of sportsmanship. It’s thinking like yours that’s behind 90% of all sideline battles at junior league games. “Me and mine above all others.” Awful.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:57 AM ^
As you said below, sportsmanship is intentionally injuring opposing players.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:34 AM ^
The OP post is dumb, but I just want to point out that Georgia lost in the SEC championship earlier in the day so a statement win in the B1G championship could give Michigan a real chance at the #1 CFP seed. Harbaugh had incentive to make it a blowout
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:11 PM ^
So did Ryan Day, that’s my point.

100 Percent Agree. Decent topic. Please create a better title, I almost didn’t look because of the title…
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
As Roman Moroni said in "Johnny Dangerously":
I think the larger point, however, is that we already knew this, so none of what they did yesterday is shocking.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
1) Always Fuck OSU
2) Dont be soft, you sound like Ryan Day - Stroud had a meh game and they wanted to get him back in rhythm before next week. Most their points early came off Iowa's offense scoring for the wrong team.
3) Let them think they are great and pat themselves on the back. The same way our 41-17 score against PSU didn't reflect the actual dominance we displayed that game (could have been 50-3), the OSU - Iowa 54-10 score is misleading, given that half those points were gifted to OSU by Iowa's 6 basically unforced turnovers.
4) Pollsters and pundits may not see it, and may proclaim the OSU defense "fixed" despite not facing an offense yet this year, but those who watch the games know what they see. This is the same OSU as last year. It's O-line and D-line are still suspect and ripe to be exposed by elite (UM) opposition.
5) We play bully ball and I love it. It's what Harbaugh is about, and if we are up by 40 on MSU going into the 4th next weekend, I hope we win by 60 and bury Mel.
6) Last year OSU scored 49 in the first half on MSU and we were all shaking in our boots that they would nuke us. They are a finesse team that will destroy lesser competition, specifically against a poor secondary on a nice day. Add in some rain, wind, snow and someone to punch them in the mouth, and they fold like a cheap lawn chair.
7) You know and I know, in the end it will be Michigan again, Michigan.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:44 AM ^
Bravo, good sir. On points 1-through-7, bravo.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:11 AM ^
7) Know? No. OSU got humiliated last year, so they'll be hungry, and at home. It won't be like last time.
That said, I do see a bit of your 6th point, in that they destroy lesser teams with an overwhelming aerial assault that gives them an air of invincibility, but they kind of have to. I'm not sure they were running up the score -- what were they going to do, run the ball with the 2nd team? They finished with 66 yards on 30 carries. Miyan Williams -- the imposing tankback that destroyed ND -- got 19 yards on 10 carries against that undersized Iowa line. They had to keep passing; that was the only way they could move the ball.
Winning in Columbus won't be easy, but it will be interesting to see what happens when we once again try punching them in the mouth.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:41 AM ^
Yup--OSU had to pass on 4th and 1 several times because they couldn't get the 2nd and short or the 3rd and 2 on the ground. Their o-line was exposed as soft and their defense didn't really impress as Iowa's offense kept respectfully and politely handing the ball back through no particular effort on OSU's part.
October 23rd, 2022 at 12:13 PM ^
Let's see if I get this right. "They were holding back their playbook so they don't show Michigan what they can really do."
October 23rd, 2022 at 2:12 PM ^
You got it wrong.
October 23rd, 2022 at 4:09 PM ^
Good post but regarding #6, most of us knew that MSU was LAST in pass defense and near last in a large multitude of pass defense stats before the OSU game. The MSU result didn't change my thinking.
October 23rd, 2022 at 6:48 PM ^
1a) And to hell with Notre Dame.

Agree with the title but not the rest.
Day did what he thought was best and ran the risk of maybe getting someone hurt in the process. That's coaching, and I doubt Ferentz cared. At some point Iowa will discover an offense and they'll run the score up on OSU. It's a cycle and getting worked up about it doesn't make sense.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
Bingo, agree with the title.
Haven't both their running backs been hurt throughout the season? I wonder if he wants to minimize their carries.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:33 AM ^
It’s more that they struggled. 66 yards on 30 carries between them yesterday
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:42 AM ^
I didnt get to watch the game, but I love they were that bad at running the ball.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:15 AM ^
I view it more as a sign of insecurity.
When we put the backups in and keep pounding on the ground, we're still hoping for success and touchdowns.
But we understand that the object of the contest is to win the game, and we play with the confidence of those who don't feel like we need style points or anyone else's affirmation. We are what we are, and we like what we are. Michigan functions like a consummate professional.
Some schools that do like what OSU did just do it because it's fun. It's fun to air it out. It's fun to score a million. It's fun to show off for recruits that they can come have fun too.
Schools are different. Mindsets are different. I'm probably biased, for obvious reasons, but I just think Day and OSU are insecure and trying to feel better about themselves/convince others that they're better than they really are.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:43 AM ^
Definitely insecure. They unraveled at the seams when punched in the mouth. Their lines do not look like they'll be able to handle ours and Michigan will eat clock and not turn the ball over 6 times. If they can't get into a steady offensive rhythm, stroud will throw incompletions and picks while jumping up and down and losing his composure in front of a home crowd that will be calling to sub their Heisman hopeful halfway into The Game.
Looking forward to it.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:06 AM ^
It is weird, hopefully telling, that they will get to the Game without ever facing an oline that's even above average. Usually, you'd get that from Iowa and Wisconsin, but not this year. Their D front is going to have basically no experience facing a line with the talent and run game complexity that M offers. OSU fans are excited about their linebackers Chambers and Eichelberger, but they haven't really faced a lineman that climbing to them all year. We'll see how they do when they're not clean. Chambers, for one, didn't know what to do last year.
M's obviously not going to face any team with skill players nearly as talented, but OSU's style of play should at least be familiar to the defense (Maryland, and PSU to a certain extent, attempt to run much lesser versions).
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
We also won't have Hutchinson and Ojabo. . . but this year we have four cornerbacks who can cover (Johnson will get there). Gray fought valiantly last year but he needed help, and for all Hill's freakish speed he played more like a box safety than a slot corner. Sainristil and an uncursed Green are upgrades.
Michigan has never faced Day's pass-happy Bucks with this level of secondary. We might play significant portions of the game in dime.
October 23rd, 2022 at 11:56 AM ^
This is all true, and I kinda hate saying this. But Day and Stroud are praying for decent weather for the Game.
That is the Achilles heal for this offense, bad weather. It is also why I am excited about home playoff games in December come 2024. Getting to watch some of these teams try and run their pass first offense in 30 degree, 20 MPH wind, snowy conditions will be hilarious...
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:16 AM ^
FWIW I watched the game with one of my OSU alum buddies and he was SCREAMING at the TV for Day to pull the starters. I told him not to worry, God decreed decades ago that OSU would never have a serious, season changing injury again so he had nothing to worry about. When he asked me what I was talking about I asked him to name ONE OSU player of importance they lost mid-season over the past 20 years.
He couldn’t.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:22 AM ^
Didn't they lose Nick Bosa early his final year?
But your point stands, it's rare for them.
October 23rd, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
Good one. Wasn't there some rumor that he wanted to rest for the draft and not risk injury? Or am I thinking of someone else?
