What a finish! Went back and watched the entire 4th quarter. A GREAT day of college football!
October 10th, 2021 at 1:04 AM ^
^^^ THIS right here. This could be the most exciting day of football, college or pro, that I have ever seen. So many big games that came right down the final minutes and seconds of the fourth quarter.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:08 AM ^
Yup. It’s why the power leagues need to get smart and only play other power five.
October 10th, 2021 at 11:46 AM ^
The NCAA has always been stupid about parity. They just don’t understand how it makes for a better product that will attract more viewers. The NBA makes the same stupid mistake.
You think they would learn from the most successful sports—NCAA basketball and the NFL. When more teams have a shot to win it all, more fans are invested and there are more good games people watch just to see a good game.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:51 PM ^
Real question, not trolling.
What things are you thinking should be done to improve the parity in NBA and NCAA?
Or I guess based on your post what things are those leagues doing to decrease the parity?
October 10th, 2021 at 3:17 PM ^
The NBA is tricky because the players are paid so much and more and more of them are willing to take less to win a championship. Really the best thing the NBA can do is get rid of “superstar calls” and have the refs apply the same standards to all players.
With the NCAA, it starts with expanding the playoff. I would also not be opposed to granting losing teams more scholarships and decreasing playoff team scholarships. Basically, make scholarships variable so they have the same function as draft position.
October 11th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
Interesting. I didn't think of variable scholarship count

What a COVID makeup season. The fans / stadiums sound more appreciative this year, and the players/coaches are giving them a show.

That end of game offensive play calling by A&M was a thing of beauty. Great QB play, dude was zipping it
October 9th, 2021 at 11:57 PM ^
Wow that is crazy.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:58 PM ^
What a gritty effort by the A&M QB after hurting his knee
October 9th, 2021 at 11:58 PM ^
Alabama had won 100-straight games against unranked teams. A&M got the ball down 7 with just 5 minutes left and: 1) Drove down the field and tied the game with a touchdown; 2) Forced a 3-and-out; and 3) Drove the field again to kick a game-winning field goal as time expired. They also had a kickoff return in the game and picked off Bryce Young when Alabama had the ball on the one yard line.

Props to the guy wearing the Charles Woodson jersey on the field at Kyle Stadium. You are my hero.

We live in a world where the Iowa Hawkeyes could
be the #1 team in the country.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
There's a group of bulldogs in Athens who say otherwise.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:27 AM ^
Iowa just beat top-5 Penn St who beat that same Auburn team Georgia beat. I bet you're right that Georgia stays goes to no.1 but Iowa might be more deserving
October 10th, 2021 at 1:06 AM ^
This.
ESS EEE SEE media gonna rep Georgia but the Iowa resume wins out.
FWIW PSU overrated after that 16-10 beatdown over Wiscy. Michigan doesn't get the same run because now Wiscy is bad, apparently.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:04 AM ^
Regardless how ugly this game was Michigan is currently undefeated. That's something Alabama, Clemson, Ohio St, USC, Florida, Florida St, Oregon, etc can't say.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:07 AM ^
Road, night, conference wins are like gold. We’re not perfect but my guess is this year nobody is. Even Georgia was close to two loss Clemson.
Let’s just see where the chips fall at the end of this year.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:26 AM ^
I mean, not sure it's fair to call them "two loss Clemson" as a way to knock Georgia's performance when, you know, one of those losses is to Georgia. But point taken, there are no easy schedules or unbeatable teams this year.

Loved the shot of Saban on the sideline when A&M got the PI call. He was standing there with his fingers in his armpits like Mary Catherine Gallagher.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:28 AM ^
Did he smell them?
October 10th, 2021 at 3:24 AM ^
Nah, he knows he's often on camera. He'll wait until the TV timeouts to take a sniff.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:10 AM ^
13 undefeated teams left out of 130, and here we are on that list. That makes me smile.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:13 AM ^
Good riddance. Actually kind of surprised as A&M has NOT looked good this season.
But Bama could lose two games and easily still make the playoffs.
If Notre Dame hadn’t pulled that game out of their ass, this would have been the perfect ending to the evening.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:19 AM ^
I don’t think so. Two loss teams in the playoffs are rare. If there would be a team it would be Bama but this is not a good loss despite being a road loss. My guess is they drop to 5. Were they to get a second loss in conference or drop the gimme game SEC teams schedule at end of season they would have to drop far enough to not make it in all likelihood.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:27 AM ^
This is clearly a crazy year. Bama can likely make the SEC championship game with two losses, and if they win that (against pending #1 Georgia), they're almost certainly in. A 2-loss team won the national title in 2007 from the SEC when there were only two slots available; already the ACC and Pac-12 look substandard. The SEC will likely get two teams, and Bama has the inside line to be one of them.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:09 AM ^
You have briefly explained the complete and utter failure of the current system and why a 12 or 16 team playoff is indicated. The concept that the 16 seed would never win and the elite teams would dominate has been wholly blown up this season.
The NCAA stands to make millions and millions and millions on it. I can't see why they don't proceed.
October 10th, 2021 at 2:29 AM ^
It will also increase interest in a lot of late-season games as teams are jockeying for playoff position or seeding.
October 10th, 2021 at 4:47 AM ^
The SEC has rigged the playoffs for the past decade plus by rigging the selection process. You can’t win a title if you aren’t selected for the playoffs.
This will continue to be a problem until they expand to 12 or 16 teams.
October 10th, 2021 at 7:57 AM ^
That Florida game was an indicator that AL may be shaky. They always had one shaky game every year. Two means something is brewing. Hope they lose one more, possibly in the championship game so they are out of playoff. Same goes for OSU. Sick of seeing those two there. Glad Clemson is out. Hoping for GA, B1G champion (hope not OSU), OK, UC
October 10th, 2021 at 12:15 AM ^
In a world where M and Iowa will be ranked above Bama.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:32 AM ^
Unfortunately, Bama' will stay ahead of UM in the rankings. Sports writers think too highly of Alabama to drop them more than a few spots. UM will pass PSU, and be ranked #8 in the AP.
UM deserves to be ranked above Bama though. Bama lost to an unranked team. UM is undefeated.

October 10th, 2021 at 4:35 AM ^
For everyone that says preseason/early season polls dont matter this is the proof you are dead wrong. If this was baseball standings Alabama wouldve entered this week up 1.5 games on us. Youll see what i mean Monday.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:16 AM ^
So.....A&M found their inner rebel alliance, found the cooling vent in the vaunted defense and took down the Alabama Death Star. Just like shooting womp rats back home!
October 10th, 2021 at 8:01 AM ^
It seems TAM does this once every 10 years. Didn't that kid do that to them who went on to play for Cincinnati or Cleveland. I forget. That was a great game.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:18 AM ^
Awesome for A&M!
Fuck Bama!
And Go Blue!!!

October 10th, 2021 at 12:26 AM ^
Can we go just to see him cry?
October 10th, 2021 at 1:05 AM ^
Michigan (Jim Harbaugh) wins on the road at Nebraska, and Alabama loses at A&M. I'd say Pete Finebaum is on suicide watch.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:09 AM ^
Hey, bottle Pete's tears and sell the stuff. It's sweeter than high-fructose corn syrup.

I've seen this before.
They'll fall to 6.
A&M will all of a sudden be top-15 with 2 poor-ish losses.
