OT: Texans coach Bill O'Brien has been fired
October 5th, 2020 at 5:18 PM ^
What about their general manager?
October 5th, 2020 at 10:34 PM ^
Would’ve been great if they scheduled two meetings, one with the coach and one with the GM to fire each independently
October 5th, 2020 at 5:19 PM ^
As a Lions fan, I would take his failures in a hot second.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
You got that shit right Cuz. Patricia has resorted to blaming China or anything that deflects from his record.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:12 PM ^
I've never wanted a football coach of the Lions fired into the sun more than Patricia. Like, his entire tenure with the team kicked off with him sorta-refuting, sorta-victim-blaming a sexual assault charge from his college years, then driving a bunch of players to openly revolt, then fielding some awful teams that consistently blew games. And he seems like just an asshole as well. They could hire Lane Kiffin and I'd probably be happier.
October 5th, 2020 at 7:12 PM ^
Not to mention his comment that there was "a lot of work to do" when he got here, taking over a team that went to the playoffs 2 out of 4 years under Caldwell. The Lions are getting what they deserve with this idiot.
October 5th, 2020 at 8:33 PM ^
I'm not much of a pro football fan, but do watch/pay attention to the Lions. That being said, 95% of Lions fans got absolutely what they deserved. "Fire Caldwell, he can't get out of the first round of the playoffs" was something i heard a lot from Lions fans. The whole time I'm thinking, fuck he's the only one to have them in the playoffs since who. So go fire a 9-7 coach. And wouldn't you know it, the Lions didn't let me down. My father in law was one of them. I just couldn't understand the thinking when the team has been a shit show my whole life. I laugh with every loss since then. Lions fans got what they wanted. And for me, I love it. If they somehow get a coach that can get them to flirting with the playoffs again, I wonder if the same thing will happen. History and my magic 8 ball are saying yes.
October 5th, 2020 at 10:13 PM ^
Great point. You and your magic 8-ball are right, the Lions should have stuck with Jim Caldwell until the league folds or he dies. Clearly, he was the answer, and any alternative would be equivalent to Matt Patricia.
I think it's pretty evident we have been derelict in not observing the credit you deserve for this observation. Let me be the first of many to congratulate you.

The one lesson even a novice should be able to pick up about the NFL is "don't fire a coach unless you have to." Pittsburgh has been the winningest team in football since the merger because they don't freak out about "only" winning 8 or 9 games as long as the culture of the team is still right and there's still consistency. A guy who is above .500 in the NFL is probably doing something right and will get you there. The odds tell you whoever you replace him with will probably be worse, and those odds get even worse when you hire the architect of New England's worst defenses of the Belichick era.
The Lions fired a coach they didn't have to fire and now they have to fire the absolute joke of an idiot they replaced him with.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:20 PM ^
It was gonna happen. If not now then it was gonna be later.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:35 PM ^
-1 - Not insightful.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:21 PM ^
Patricia can only dream about the success O’Brien has had. Patricia makes O’Brien look like Belichick.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:23 PM ^
Just saw a suggestion that the Texans hire Bienemy. Pair Watson with that coach and some receivers and it could be scary.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:28 PM ^
I mean, the dude's Andy Reid's OC, so it's possible he's just a warm body. They also traded away the best weapon they could ask for.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:14 PM ^
I think Bienemy is a good coach but he's been an OC for 2 years and has Andy Reid as his HC and has Mahomes as his QB and a plethora of weapons. Watson is a really good QB but the Texans aren't at that level and much like Patricia I'd be nervous about hiring a guy with limited experience on his own coaching under a guru on his side of the ball.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
The guy in Columbus could do better imo
October 5th, 2020 at 11:17 PM ^
If only there was some form of media to widely spread rumors about that.....Day Time in Houston!

The Belichick Coach Tree
October 5th, 2020 at 5:26 PM ^
Might he come back to college? If so, where?
October 5th, 2020 at 8:59 PM ^
Iowa.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:27 PM ^
BoB seemed like he was ok as a coach. Letting him be the GM was a big time mistake. He took what seemed to be a good young core on the Texans and turned them into a hot mess. Should they just rebuild now? They are 0-4 and they gave their 1st & 2nd round picks to Miami. Maybe you should just find a real GM and trade Deshaun for a pile of draft picks
October 5th, 2020 at 5:48 PM ^
Seriously. Has making an NFL HC the GM ever worked out? EVER?
October 5th, 2020 at 5:55 PM ^
Maybe Mike Holmgren with the Seahawks? His Seahawks teams were consistent playoff contenders with, I think, one Super Bowl appearance. And he lasted as HC/GM for about 10 years.
EDIT: Also see comment below mine. That might be a better example.

Belichick
October 5th, 2020 at 8:52 PM ^
If your old like me you would remember George Halas, Owner, G.M., and coach of the Chicago Bears when they were called, "The monsters of the midway." Roughly from 1938-1955.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:34 PM ^
Does he get to stay as GM? It always seemed that was the root of the problem.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:38 PM ^
He fired himself.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:42 PM ^
I’ve disliked Mr. Crater Chin ever since that 2013 @ Penn State debacle. Granted, that game had a lot more to do with Michigan having every chance in the world to win and still completely blowing it, but still.
fuck him
October 5th, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
The Texans are in play everybody. Harbaugh is on top of the list.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:15 PM ^
Is he still that desired after being merely “good” at Michigan?
October 5th, 2020 at 6:27 PM ^
Not an insider, but believe he could walk back into a HC job in the NFL.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:46 PM ^
Fire Patricia Now.
October 5th, 2020 at 5:58 PM ^
The most Lions thing ever would be to fire Patricia and immediately sign O'Brien to a 5 year contract.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:18 PM ^
October 5th, 2020 at 6:05 PM ^
Patricia will hopefully follow back to the Pats, where he can roll out a middling defense and get bailed out by an All-Pro QB.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:07 PM ^
A few months ago I probably would have traded the house for a pack of toilet paper. Just sayin...
October 5th, 2020 at 6:15 PM ^
I never ran out and I never hoarded it
October 5th, 2020 at 9:36 PM ^
Me either. Are people wrapping their bodies in toilet paper? How much are they seriously using? Is there no fiber and water in their diet?
also, if you really run out, just get in the shower really quickly.

bidet prices skyrocketed after the Great TP Shortage of Spring 2020
8.5.0October 5th, 2020 at 10:39 PM ^
When Covid first hit, we couldn’t find toilet paper around us. We had to buy the prison paper at some organic store and have my dad get a 6 pack during the elderly hours just to wipe our assholes.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:17 PM ^
Oh yes. We can now fire Matt Patricia to pave the way for eventually firing Bill O'Brien. It would be a classic Lions move.
October 5th, 2020 at 6:34 PM ^
Maybe someone could drop a hint to Sheila Ford Hamp to call Cal McNair down in Houston and get some pointers.
October 5th, 2020 at 7:34 PM ^
He's probably the best Belichick assistant to become a HC. Several playoff appearances and winning records before the wheels fell off. And Penn State owes him one, they probably never recover as a program if not for his two years there.
October 5th, 2020 at 8:28 PM ^
Not much of a surprise.
October 5th, 2020 at 8:36 PM ^
The lions need to hire Day
October 5th, 2020 at 11:24 PM ^
Even money the Lions hire him.
October 6th, 2020 at 7:36 AM ^
It was only a matter of time, they gave him everything he could have wanted to include a general manager position and he did very little if anything with it
