Dude, there is a house wives of Atlanta marathon on, no one has tome for bball
September 1st, 2020 at 10:26 PM ^
Mike Conley continues throwing up shots even though I believe he is 1-10 at this point.
September 1st, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
Mr. Silver, this is like the 2nd night in a row with posting about what's going on in the NBA.
Sorry, no one cares this year. You're not getting the viewership. Stop.
While you're at it, eat a sandwich, you look sickly. And stop kissing China's butt.
September 1st, 2020 at 10:49 PM ^
Adam Silver is easily the most popular commissioner in American sports today
September 1st, 2020 at 11:32 PM ^
To be fair, it's not much of a horse race.
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:01 AM ^
I'd argue that if we had a poll - Gary Bettman might actually rank the highest of the 4.
Yes, THAT Gary Bettman.
What a strange strange world we live in these days. :-)
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:11 AM ^
Bettman?
LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
As a lifetime Red Wings fan, I beg to differ.
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:21 AM ^
Well, it's on a relative basis. Least bad still wins.
September 2nd, 2020 at 7:49 AM ^
Popular with his players, yes. However the ratings of the league speak for themselves as to how people feel about the direction of the league.
September 2nd, 2020 at 8:17 AM ^
Playoff ratings are down from last year, in line with the overall decrease in general TV viewership. When you consider that half the games to this point have been played in the afternoon, I'd say they're doing fine. Silver is also popular with the fans.
September 2nd, 2020 at 8:48 AM ^
NBA ratings are down because the NBA product is garbage.
September 2nd, 2020 at 10:03 AM ^
Strongly disagree. The NBA is as good as it's ever been.
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:28 PM ^
The league is so offense heavy its pointless to play defense. Not sure why they just don't have a shooting contest.
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
Uhhhh.....
Right now, Silver is THE LEAST popular commissioner in the U.S. of the four major sports (baseball, basketball, NFL, NHL)
However, if you let China vote, then Silver would be the over-whelming favorite sports commissioner in the entire world.
September 2nd, 2020 at 7:39 AM ^
Kissing? The whole nba is bent over for Chiba. Bunch of cowards.
September 2nd, 2020 at 10:01 AM ^
Has this become a right-wing talking point?
September 2nd, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
If caring about Hong Kong being oppressed by China is right-wing, then shame on the left-wing. All people should support peoples' right to self rule. The NBA clearly put money above a simple comment supporting protesters. China threatened to boycott the NBA and the NBA caved. I'm surprised this is even a contentious issue. If we listen to the Beastie Boys, does that mean we are right-wing as well? To answer your question directly, neither party has challenged China on this issue, or the fact they have concentration camps with hundreds of thousands of Muslims being "re-educated." How can one not be horrified about that.
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:01 PM ^
Not at all. It's a real thing. It's not just the NBA, but their reaction to a simple and ostensibly non-controversial tweet was completely galling.
One dude tweets "free Hong Kong" and the NBA loses its shit and even the players speak to the press to walk it back
A Hearthstone champion says "free Hong Kong" in his acceptance speech and Blizzard robs him of his winnings and bans him for life.
These are freaking AMERICAN companies that just bend over and take it from China at the drop of a hat. This isn't a talking point; it's a real and scary situation and exposes the fraudulent patriotism that American corporations have sold to the public for decades.

Rudy Gobert currently carrying the Jazz. Three defensive rebounds in a row. An offensive rebound. Two made free throws, and a made lay-up all in the last minute. Jazz went from down 65-61 to up 68-65 thanks to Gobert.
September 1st, 2020 at 10:48 PM ^
Mike Conley and Gary Harris are a combined 3-21 from the field
Way to represent, rivals
September 1st, 2020 at 10:57 PM ^
*3-22
Conley adds a miss at the buzzer to lose
September 1st, 2020 at 11:33 PM ^
Harris had the key defensive play on Mitchell though.
September 1st, 2020 at 10:50 PM ^
Game is currently tied 78-78 with 47 seconds left. Gobert is still carrying the Jazz in the 4th quarter.
September 1st, 2020 at 10:55 PM ^
Wild sequence at the end there.
September 1st, 2020 at 10:58 PM ^
damn, wanted jazz to win.... only caught the end.... what a low scoring game
September 1st, 2020 at 11:04 PM ^
Jokic with a dominant game 7. Realistically, it'll be Clippers Lakers next round so this is a moo game.
September 1st, 2020 at 11:46 PM ^
Wouldn't a moo game be between Milwaukee and the Clippers/Lakers/Warriors/Kings?!
Leading 10 U.S. states based on number of milk cows in 2018 and 2019 (in 1,000s)*
September 2nd, 2020 at 8:15 AM ^
That's a lot of moos. Wisconsin is nothing compared to Cali.
September 2nd, 2020 at 10:08 AM ^
Jokic is an amazing player to watch. Probably the craftiest player in the league, and the most creative passer. Not sure why he hasn't developed more of a following, aside from being Serbian and on a small market team.
With that said, aside from Game 7, he had a somewhat disappointing series.
Re: Lakers/Clips. Not sure about that. Most of the series should be competitive from here on out. Denver struggled with the Jazz, but the Jazz were an awfully strong 6 seed. OKC or Houston are going to be tough. The Heat have looked very good since the restart, and hard to discount a Brad Stevens team in the playoffs. With that said, I do think the Lakers & Clippers are the favorites (sorry Toronto/Milwaukee), though lots more parity in the league than usual.

Man, sports were off TV for so long that I have forgotten they (partially) came back.
I remember when Covid hit, the one thing i said was "well at least i'll get to sit at home and watch march maddness"
September 1st, 2020 at 11:11 PM ^
I thought the moment between Mitchell and Murray at the end of game was awesome.
2 dudes competed their asses off
Also Denver is really lucky they didn't see Mitchell wide open at the end.
September 1st, 2020 at 11:30 PM ^
Mitch and Murray paid good money for the Glengarry leads.
September 2nd, 2020 at 2:05 AM ^
Both teams played hard...
Man I miss Sheed. This was a Sheed Era Pistons throwback game.
September 2nd, 2020 at 5:21 AM ^
Who cares about the NBA
September 2nd, 2020 at 8:19 AM ^
Lots of people. Clearly you care since you're in the thread.
September 2nd, 2020 at 8:55 AM ^
Man, I love all the moral grandstanding going on from people who didn't give a shit about the Uyghurs until it became a useful political tool to obfuscate and distract from racial inequality and a piss poor coronavirus response within the United States.
I believe systemic racism exists within the United States. I more or less support the NBA's stance on systemic racism. I believe ethnic cleansing is going on in China. I am against the NBA's silence on ethnic cleansing in China. Just because the NBA is seemingly hypocritical in its refusal to condemn China does not mean it is wrong on the issue of systemic racism in the United States. For those who believe that an individual's hypocrisy automatically renders their argument invalid, Google the "tú quoque" or "appeal to hypocrisy" fallacy.
Lastly, for those who truly are disappointed in the NBA's stance on China, I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is. Stop watching the NBA. Write to the NBA and their sponsors to let them know how disappointed you are in their tacit approval of China's treatment of Uyghurs. I did, just as I stopped watching Fox Sports after Gus Johnson made Urban Meyer out to be a martyr for defending a wife beater. But, if I had to guess, your issue with the NBA has more to do with their stance on standing for the flag (no pun intended) than their stance on China.
September 2nd, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
Karen, is that you?
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:23 PM ^
I think you misunderstand what it means to be a "Karen".
September 2nd, 2020 at 5:07 PM ^
The “appeal to hypocrisy fallacy” is itself a fallacy.
September 2nd, 2020 at 11:49 AM ^
Jazz Nuggets, sounds like something that could be made from a Jive turkey.
September 2nd, 2020 at 12:26 PM ^
MGoBlog fans who don't actually watch the NBA and talking misguided shit about the NBA, a tradition unlike any other....
September 2nd, 2020 at 5:06 PM ^
The “appeal to hypocrisy fallacy” is itself a fallacy.
