Toledo head coach Jason Candle tests COVID positive
No symptoms and will self isolate.
Wow, cases are truly rocketing lately, aren’t they?
I can't hold a candle to that observation.
Candle should have stayed in the wind.
Well, but then he’d never know who to turn to, when the rain set in
It's a wicked disease.
They've been blasting off for weeks now.
Hahaha I’ll take my chances ... someone like Joe Biden should be worried but anarchistic antifa protestors shouldn’t be !
His last name is Candle.
First name Roman?
The only way you get it is by not self isolating in the first place! Stay home people
TYRANNY!
We can all do that, and then "enjoy" 30 % unemployment and a bankrupt government.
Or we can just wear masks when we go places.
Government's been bankrupt for a while.
What’s $27T between friends?
You're never bankrupt when:
1) you print your own money and
2) it is still accepted and considered stable.
If we all stayed home in March there would be no uncertainty regarding sports starting up in a month.
Now that we're testing 800,000 people a day, have abundant stocks of masks, contactless thermometers and contact tracers, the "stay home" argument makes no sense anymore. It was a temporary, emergency measure that hadn't been done in a century. It's not your Plan A for going through a pandemic, because at the end of the day, society needs to be able to pay for itself and that doesn't happen when everyone is home.
The issue now is that some people are choosing not to take advantage of the protective measures mentioned above.
Two of my friends, who are teachers in Indiana, got tested at the beginning of last week. Neither of them have their results yet.
Testing 800,000 people a day doesn't do a thing if the results take more than a week to get processed.
Also with no test & trace regime, etc. Things aren't getting back to normal until there is real leadership with a national plan that is actually implemented and enforced.
Like he said, we have contact tracers, if people die at least we know who, what, where, and why. That’s all we need.
Just had a friend and his wife get tested on Monday, results back today. Both negative.
You didn't mention hand washing (thanks, as it's partly outdated information) but you did mention temperature checking, which ...
I suppose if you have endless money available, sure, why not? I'd rather see Rush University et al. spend money on the air (refreshing it from the outside, filtering it, maybe getting all fancy and UVing it).
Masking is looking better all the time even if it's not perfect. Spending lots of time in a tight space with others of unknown status still seems dicey unless you have an N95 or better.
Recycled, filtered air that's treated with UV seems an efficient option right now. Similar to the indoor smoking areas in some airports that are ventilated through the ceiling.
I can say with a healthy bit of certainty that tests taking 7+ days to get back to you and, at best, piecemeal contact tracing apparatus in many parts of the country means this country isn't all that close to having this situation under some degree of control. Now had the original shutdown actually led to a consistent, thoughtful response in which all of these procedures and practices were near-universally adopted and implemented, and not just a month of pissing contests between states and the Fed, then the thought of going back into lockdown would sound silly.
Holy Toledo!
Today, I met the first person I know who tested positive. He had a dry cough for a week and some body aches. I don’t even know what to believe anymore.
Yea, it's a pretty tough call... I mean on the one side you have almost every reputable scientist and health care professional, but then on the other side you have people who show up to city council meetings to talk about the FACT that Covid can't be real and refuse to wear masks because God designed our breathing systems to be perfect... I could go either way
Yup. Who to believe? Virtually every reputable scientist and healthcare professional/organization in the world, or the guy who got a C- in Biology in high school. I’m also really torn by this
It killed my cousin if that helps you contemplate the risks. I also know people who had it and are asymptomatic. This kind of disparity in how it hits certain people isn't news (except to possibly my governor...sigh).
My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your cousin. So many people aren't taking this seriously as it hasn't impacted anyone they know personally.
Try listening to Fauci. He doesn't lie. He changes what he says when his evidence changes, which is how science works. Can't hurt.
Congrats -- you have a sample of one. Alert the NEJM with your findings.
Sorry. I get you at some level. At this point I know several people who've had it and survived. But, I've also heard some spooky stories about friends of friends that I never heard about the flu (still the favorite point of comparison for some) in past years.
Oh, my.
I'm not one of these idiots who thinks coronavirus is a joke and maybe I'm being a jerk, but do we really care that the Toledo coach (who 99.9% of this board can't name) tested positive?
Eh, I'm being a jerk. Nvm.
I can't name the coach of at least 150 D1 schools, that doesn't mean it's not significant when the head coach of a D1 school tests positive. I still think there is about a 40% chance football will be played this fall.
