Indiana general discussion
I spent a little time on an IU fan forum today to check out our upcoming opponent and I learned a few things.
First, an IU fan forum exists. And more than one person posts in it! This was surprising. As was the lack of Penix jokes.
They seem like really nice people and they also find OSU fans to be classless pieces of shit. The really like their coach and think they'll be a contender going forward.
Many of them were small children when they last beat us, but hope springs eternal.
So is anyone actually going down there to the game? I've never been but it's on the list
November 19th, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
I might go. Up in the air right now.
I hate their coach. He is obnoxious as shit. The dude is way to animated on the sidelines when the littlest thing happens.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:37 PM ^
They were comparing him to Harbaugh in that regard. They also think his sideline demeanor will relax eventually, but it wasn't clear why they think that.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:39 PM ^
I think Harbaugh more so just gets pissed (or did a lot back in the day). Their coach acts childish or something I can't really put my finger on it cause I hardly ever watch them play.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:41 PM ^
Harbaugh was definitely childish his first year here. Glad he changed because it was hurting the team.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
How was he childish? Hurt the Team?
November 19th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
15 yard penalty at Ohio state 2016 led to a TD
November 19th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
I don't think that was childish and he should have ripped the refs arms off and beat his ass with them for how bad they were fucking us, anyways dude said his first year. That was Harbaugh's 2nd year.
November 19th, 2019 at 8:05 PM ^
The interception lead to the TD. The penalty shortened the field.
November 19th, 2019 at 8:57 PM ^
Ohio State was completely scoring on that drive, anyway. I think Harbaugh’s reaction to that call was a bit more calculated than you think. He may not have expected the penalty but I think he was willing to roll the dice in the faint hope that it would lead to us not getting completely screwed for the rest of the game. (So much for that).
November 19th, 2019 at 9:54 PM ^
2016 was a ref shit show
November 20th, 2019 at 11:37 AM ^
Anybody criticizing Harbaugh for blowing a gasket in that game after watching his team get screwed all game by the officials is an idiot. Here is an idea, instead of blaming Harbaugh how about we blame the incompetent biased officials with Ohio ties and the conference that allowed them to do that game?
November 19th, 2019 at 6:53 PM ^
I think his calm demeanor earlier in year was hurting team. I like the fire, that is who he is.
November 19th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
It comes across as over the top and fake enthusiasm when it is done at every little positive thing that happens. Almost like he is acting.
November 19th, 2019 at 8:34 PM ^
I would compare him to Pat Fitzgerald. Tom Allen is a New Castle IN native and although he didn't play for IU like Fitz did for NW, this is his dream job. He worked his way up from Indiana HS coach.
He will enjoy some moderate success at IU just like Fitz at NW but ultimately will he a .500 coach and the university will love him for it.

The Fire Marshal Bill of the Big 10
November 19th, 2019 at 6:54 PM ^
I thought I was the only one that thought this. Honestly, I want to route for Indiana when they don't play Michigan, but their coach makes it hard.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:37 PM ^
Well, no Indiana general discussion can be complete without mention of Maj. Gen. Ambrose "Sideburns" Burnside. That facial hair alone won the North several battles...
November 19th, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
I've got a miniature Schnauzer that will see him two and raise him another two.
November 19th, 2019 at 7:34 PM ^
It always makes me happy seeing Union generals and being reminded that the South lost the Civil war. Smiles!
November 19th, 2019 at 8:17 PM ^
I'm a big fan of Fighting Joe Hooker. He stands for 2 of my favorite things.
November 19th, 2019 at 9:05 PM ^
Mmmm...hookers and sloppy joes....
November 19th, 2019 at 9:33 PM ^
Fighting and Coffee?
November 19th, 2019 at 9:15 PM ^
Burnside? Always makes me think of the slaughter in Fredericksburg. Wasn't a great general.
November 19th, 2019 at 9:35 PM ^
Here is a list of Civil War generals not responsible for slaughter in some form or another:

The foppish follicles favored by Ambrose Burnside . . .
November 20th, 2019 at 6:28 AM ^
Burnside actually won few battles...
November 20th, 2019 at 8:25 AM ^
Yeah but at least he was willing to fight, unlike McClellan.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:39 PM ^
I really want to go but still don't know if I feel like sitting in 30 degree weather.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
I will be there, but that’s not surprising since I live about 5 minutes from the stadium. IU has their best team in the last few years, but surprisingly I think Michigan dominates them for the first time in a long time. The last 5 IU-Michigan games have been insanely conservative on Michigan’s end and I think this year they’ll pass a lot more with a lot of success.
IU is due to eventually beat Michigan and they have been close a lot, and this is their best team but I think this is the worst they lose in a while to Michigan.
November 19th, 2019 at 7:37 PM ^
Same here, live 3 minutes north of the stadium and I'll be there.
November 19th, 2019 at 10:23 PM ^
What are some good things to do around town before/after the game (or Sunday morning)? It'll be my first time at IU.
November 20th, 2019 at 6:37 AM ^
Head east of town about 20 miles on 46-to Nashville...cute little artsy-fartsy tourist trap.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:45 PM ^
Another good opportunity to make a statement.
If they can re-focus after the big game this past weekend, they'll have a good chance to control this game.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
I’ll be down there, it’s my first visit to Bloomington.
November 19th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
I hate thinking like this, but Indiana is going to beat us one of these years. Hopefully I will have died before that.. of old age.
November 19th, 2019 at 7:19 PM ^
We hope so, too! No, wait! We don't mean it like that!
November 19th, 2019 at 11:51 PM ^
I agree it’s coming; If they do, this would be the year since it won’t knock us out of anything meaningful, and it won’t hurt bowl destination too much.
November 20th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^
If UM somehow knocks off OSU a loss to Indiana would make a pretty big difference in bowl positioning. Win out and they get a NY6 bowl, possibly even the Rose Bowl, don't win out and you are looking at a mediocre at best bowl.
November 19th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
Heading down Friday after work. Staying around Indy then tailgating and wandering campus in the morning.
November 19th, 2019 at 7:25 PM ^
Indiana basketball fans calling OSU fans "classless pieces of shite". Now that's funny....!
We have more "classless pieces of shite" because we're a bigger school in a bigger state. But I would bet the % of "classless pieces of shite" to total is about the same for all schools......
November 19th, 2019 at 7:36 PM ^
Wouldn’t it be nice if OSU football sucked for a decade as IU basketball has?
November 19th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
Osu celebrates classless piece of shit fans, like the bucknut, or that other depressing psuedo celebrity who people pay for autographs and showed up at the funeral for Earle Bruce and signed the card meant for players only.
November 19th, 2019 at 9:13 PM ^
Yes, BuckiGuy, or whatever his name is, truly is the biggest of the classless pieces of shite here....
November 19th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
Yeah, no. OSU has way more obnoxious, potentially violent, fans than any other team in the Big 10. Stories abound of Michigan fans being threatened or outright assaulted when visiting your toilet bowl.
That shit is exceedingly rare in Ann Arbor.
November 19th, 2019 at 9:17 PM ^
Yes, I remember leaving the 93 game early as we finished off another stellar Cooper 0-28 defeat.I fondly recall the cups being thrown at us, some with liquid in them, being shoved several times and multiple fingers pointed in my face. Yes, "exceedingly rare".
But it worked. I haven't been back since. I go to other stadiums where I have NEVER had any incidents other than some good natured heckling.
Yep, you guys are all class......
November 19th, 2019 at 10:26 PM ^
Not sure what you're trying to prove on a Michigan blog, but ok cool. Hook em.
Also you're allowed to say shit here
November 20th, 2019 at 8:05 AM ^
Isn't the internet great. One can make up whatever scenario one wishes and there is no way to disprove it. Certainly there are douches on all sides but the chances that you have embellished your story are quite high. Here, given the larger "off-field" optics of MSU, PSU and OSU vs Michigan, the chances that Michigan objectively grades out much higher would seem to be something one could bet the farm on (pun intended to you land-granters).
November 19th, 2019 at 7:27 PM ^
Peyton Ramsey has not played well against Michigan, cumulatively completing less than 50% of his passes and not throwing for over 200 yards. Yet Indiana has played Michigan extremely close. Much of this has to do with the fact that, in '17, the Indiana game came after a devastating loss to Sparty. And last year it was before what at the time looked to be an epic matchup with Ohio State.
I expect this game to be close as well, coming in between two emotional games for Michigan.
This whole "Indiana Flu" thing is not new. The only game I went to down there was in '99, when Indiana had Randle-El and were a dropped TD pass in the endzone away from upsetting Blue, who were of course coming off a devastating loss to Illinois that ended Rose Bowl hopes.
By the way, Indiana fans are gracious hosts and there are some classic bars down there (Nick's, Bluebird, etc.)

I am flying to Indy for the weekend and headed to the game with a good friend and fellow Michigan alum. Have not been able to get to a Michigan game for 3 years and looking forward to seeing Michigan live. Should be a good game and it is always fun to see college football in BIG 10 Country.
