Rutgers a 7.5 point dog at home vs...Liberty!?
My, what a sad thing that program has become. Also, what a terrible decision to let them into the conference (which of course has been discussed at length around these parts). A friend said he heard they are aiming for Schiano, which would be great if they could get him. They really need to do something to make that program something other than a total embarrassment.

Rutgers should pay kids to play there.
The NCAA won't do anything about it and at least the B1G will look better

Recruit: “so...uh.....I could probably speed up my commitment if you hook me up with...uh... something...”
Rutgers: *slides bag filled with tanning lotion, body spray, and hair gel across table*
Recruit: “No. I just...nevermind”

Rutgers sucks.
October 25th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
That’s what happens when Michigan’s roster is full of all the good players from NJ lol.
October 25th, 2019 at 9:42 PM ^
All of them except the NJ running backs.

Sounds like an unprecedented money making opportunity
brb betting the farm on Liberty

Rutgers is bad. Even more bad than when we played them. Coach gone, QB gone, RB gone.

Damn Delaney!

Rutgers vs Liberty is a bit like Mexican military vs random cartel henchmen. Sure, the former should technically be much stronger and dominate the latter, but if all your fighters are like "I ain't taking a bullet for this bullshit, senor" that ain't worth much. What I'm saying is that this year's Rutgers is a team that's collectively decided this season ain't worth CTE. And who can blame them?

"Mexican military vs random cartel henchmen."
Which ESPN channel is this on?

The Ocho.

I think they've basically quit. They should have kept Ash for the season- he was bad, but offing a coach midway through makes no sense, unless they had someone waiting in the wings (which they obviously didn't).
October 26th, 2019 at 12:00 AM ^
If there is no off field cause, getting rid of a coach mid-season at a really bad program is odd. Did the AD think that move would inspire the team to play better? Should've kept Ash until season's end.
October 26th, 2019 at 8:24 AM ^
It's hard to hire a new coach when the old one is still working so it did make sense.
Unfortunately for Rutgers, it's hard for them to get a coach they want, even if they're currently unemployed. The Schiano news isn't exactly new. That was out the day Ash was fired.
October 25th, 2019 at 10:58 PM ^
Why would we WANT them to hire Schiano? We want easy conference opponents. We don't want Rutgers to become an average team that could potentially pull of an upset over us
October 25th, 2019 at 11:58 PM ^
Exactly. Michigan should schedule more Rutgers and fewer NDs, Washingtons, Oklahomas and Texas. The B1G is hard enough. Maybe Michigan should play Liberty too. Bama wouldn’t have a problem doing it.
October 26th, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
To me there’s a difference between a lower tier team that you usually beat (eg, Minnesota or Purdue) and a team that is not even competitive. I’d much rather watch the a game with the former rather than the latter.
October 26th, 2019 at 1:05 AM ^
I'd take the points. Lets not pile on... after all, we aren't chumps....

Take it for what it’s worth, but a friend of mine is very involved in the NJ football scene - has coached at Erasmus in NYC and Paramus. Now at another one of the four NJ power programs. He says that he is hearing that Rutgers would like to make a run at bringing Partridge back to NJ, likely not as HC but possibly as DC. The general view is that there is enough NJ talent that if Rutgers can keep even a few more good players a year home, they should have enough talent to at least be competitive. Partridge is viewed as someone who is plugged into the NJ high school scene and who can help with that.
Note that this is nothing more than what people involved with Rutgers are saying they would like. My friend said that he hasn’t heard a shred of info that Partridge would even consider Rutgers.
October 26th, 2019 at 6:39 AM ^
I could see Partridge replace Brown. Too good of a recruiter and seems to well at every position he coaches. Only Harbaugh knows if he is ready or not.
October 26th, 2019 at 10:43 AM ^
I have noticed that on the sidelines Jim seems to communicate more with Partridge than anyone else. I figured it must mean he either has a lot of responsibility or he’s being groomed for something.
October 26th, 2019 at 6:39 AM ^
I dont remember where, probably here, but Rutgers was supposedly polling NJ high school coaches about who they'd like to see as the next HC. That lines up with what you're saying - that they think it's a recruiting issue, and to me that's stupid. Win games and recruits will come. There's not a salesman in the world that can convince a meaningful recruit to play for a team getting points at home to Liberty. Whatever.
October 26th, 2019 at 9:16 AM ^
How do you win games without recruits?
October 26th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
Steroids and shoulder chips. Worked well for Mork
October 26th, 2019 at 9:50 AM ^
Hire a good football coach?
October 26th, 2019 at 9:23 AM ^
It would be insane for Partridge to move to Rutgers for HC, and doing it for DC would be even loonier. Rutgers is a coach-killer. Let Schiano do it.
October 26th, 2019 at 7:27 AM ^
I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter about Rutgers going after Jeff Hafley, but I’m just some dude on a message board, so take it for what it’s worth.
October 26th, 2019 at 9:17 AM ^
Hafley knows full well what happened to the last OSU DC to go to Rutgers......
October 26th, 2019 at 8:10 AM ^
There are high school teams that would beat Rutgers.....
October 26th, 2019 at 8:22 AM ^
The sad thing is they weren't bad when they got in the Big Ten, they were 8-5 the year they beat us (puke) then 4-8 in 2015 and got pretty trigger happy on firing Kyle Flood. Look at them now.
October 26th, 2019 at 8:33 AM ^
Liberty is 5-2. 7 1/2 is probably way too low.
October 26th, 2019 at 8:52 AM ^
Now that we’ve ditched the games against UCLA, we should schedule the Fighting Falwells. Season ticket holders won’t mind shelling out $100 for that, right?
October 26th, 2019 at 9:54 AM ^
From what I understand, at least among some segments of the remaining Rutgers fanbase (so 4 of the remaining 10, let's say), the "Hire Schiano" movement is fairly organized. Whether or not the school makes Greg an offer he couldn't refuse, like coming back to coach them again but with a personal ballwasher, remains to be seen.
