Not a bad landing spot.
February 7th, 2019 at 6:52 PM ^
Hope the good people of DC enjoy watching two runs up the middle, an incomplete pass followed by a punt.
/s
I actually hope he does well there. Good luck, Pep.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:07 PM ^
At least it will be a punt with no fair catch allowed and become a live ball after 25 yards.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:14 PM ^
It’s an expansion league so you better believe they’ll be running all sorts of different schemes.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:07 PM ^
That was actually the rule they had the first time around
February 7th, 2019 at 8:21 PM ^
Is he taking Harbaugh's offense with him?
February 7th, 2019 at 8:38 PM ^
Isn't that what they have now with the redskins???
February 7th, 2019 at 6:53 PM ^
This is epic. I keep forgetting the XFL is coming back
February 7th, 2019 at 6:57 PM ^
I clicked thinking this has to be a joke. I guess not.
Good luck, Pep.
February 7th, 2019 at 6:58 PM ^
Eh, sounds like an interesting move for a guy clearly struggling to find a landing spot. Hope it works out for him.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:00 PM ^
Well, that's the sort of transition that I didn't expect for Pep, but all the same, hopefully it works out for him.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:06 PM ^
Andrew Luck brought him to the NFL and since his success has steadily dropped.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:17 PM ^
He's had plenty of success if you think about it, the bank he made the last few years, if he lives frugally and makes wise \financial decisions, he should be set.
February 8th, 2019 at 10:14 AM ^
Yeah he’s made money, but with this move his credibility as a viable football coach is on life support. Personally I put profesional and personal respect over cold hard cash, but I get the need to put food on the table. I’d imagine he won’t be seeing the types of contracts anymore...it wasn’t a good move by Coach to pay him that much as it didn’t seem as though people were beating down the doors for his services. In short he wasn’t/isn’t a very good football coach and was over his head.
February 7th, 2019 at 9:55 PM ^
Maybe Oliver Luck brought him to the XFL?
February 7th, 2019 at 9:55 PM ^
Maybe Oliver Luck brought him to the XFL?
February 8th, 2019 at 1:07 PM ^
His offensive philosophy damn near left Luck with only one working shoulder. I'm sure Colts fans were thrilled about it.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:06 PM ^
Good for Pep.
Good luck.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:10 PM ^
In the pecking order of desirable coaching jobs, where will the XFL (and other minor pro football leagues) ultimately end up? Obviously some guys are college guys for life, for various reasons, but for the most part the NFL is the top, then college, then everything else. Is there a chance that significant coaching talent goes to the XFL to be HC/GM instead of assistants in college/NFL? Not sure the money/prestige will be there, and the player talent obviously won't be compared to the NFL. It will be interesting to see if college coaching jobs stay categorically ahead of the XFL, or if more guys like Pep take it as an opportunity to run their own show.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:17 PM ^
I don't know how much the coaches are making in XFL, but I'm pretty sure the players are not make as much as the ones in college, especially the ones in SEC.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:20 PM ^
Pep has been looking for work for 2 straight offseasons now. I think he became uncomfortably aware how much his services are (un)wanted at the NFL/NCAA level.
If he wanted anything more than a positional coach this may have been his only option.
The best coaches will stay in the NFL/college.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:13 PM ^
Does anyone actually expect the XFL to succeed?
February 8th, 2019 at 5:09 AM ^
I probably won't watch it. Or the AFL for that matter. I love football but don't want it all year long. It's that big hunger that builds up over the Winter, Spring and Summer that makes College football so great.
I also thought the XFL would want some flash and innovation with its offense, so I'm not sure this is a good hire.
February 8th, 2019 at 9:37 AM ^
I hope it succeeds but just don't want to see stupid jersey names like He Hate Me.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
Well, Stoops is coming out of retirement to coach there. Maybe some other high profile coaches & players will make the league much more atractive & successful...
February 7th, 2019 at 7:20 PM ^
Let's see if the #BodyBlows offense will work against fully growed up men
February 7th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
I'm wagering on that not being successful.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:23 PM ^
Pep...took the blame for the offense but was Pep the problem?
If Michigan offense look the same this fall do we blame Gattis or Harbaugh?
good luck Pep!
February 7th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
We will still blame Pep. Takes two years to run a new offense... pretty obvious really.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:41 PM ^
Still blaming Borges, and even Rich Rod, in some circles.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:45 PM ^
FIRE BORGES!
February 8th, 2019 at 7:58 AM ^
The offense didn't look this bad until Pep came so I blame him.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
THIS
IS
THE XFL
February 7th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
Pretty good soft landing for him.
February 7th, 2019 at 7:49 PM ^
Havent seen the line on any of their upcoming games - but whatever it is, would recommend taking the "Under"...
February 7th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
He Hate me. .
February 7th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
Best nickname in sports history. Literally. The guy got more than 15 minutes of fame out of it. Granted it was only 16 minutes but still.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:24 PM ^
Rod Smart parlayed that famous nickname into a 5-year NFL career, including participating in a Super Bowl with Carolina. Getting the spotlight and attracting enough attention to get a look from some CFL/NFL guys was genius.
February 8th, 2019 at 7:46 AM ^
was there anyone else who made it to the NFL from the XFL? I know Ben Huff (RIP) spent some time in the league, but that was after he was in Atlanta I think.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
Gotta think that anyone getting the call to coach in the XFL (for the Lions or Browns, as well) would be like Lou Brown getting the call to manage the Cleveland Indians, while he’s working at the tire shop.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:38 PM ^
Better than Drevno’s step down.
But not by much.
February 7th, 2019 at 9:13 PM ^
From the hindsight is 100% contacts, he was never in the plan for 2019. I am not sure if I truly believe that or not? It took way too long to figure that out if that was truly the case.
I thought we may have had a 2018 2.0 situation on our hands and he would still be with us in 2019. He looked around last year and was close to leaving. After seeing where he ended up, I am fairly certain he did have a nudge.
February 7th, 2019 at 8:54 PM ^
So does M still have to pay him now?
February 7th, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
He received a nice check from UM too. I hope Mineral King fills us in on the details. UMICH1606, what do you have?
February 8th, 2019 at 9:11 AM ^
Hey, you are like 3 years late, but you can finally say that Pep is cleaning out his office! Congrats, fraud.
February 7th, 2019 at 9:14 PM ^
The same position at an LFL team would have been better.
