Think of it from a marketing…

Think of it from a marketing standpoint -- if you don't have a great product you don't want to show it before you sell it -- season tickets etc.

At least there were a couple…

At least there were a couple good runs in the mix. That sweep though is not going to fool anyone this year

Horrible

I agree for HS and College…

I agree for HS and College Football and probably basketball too but they could decide that later. I think more people are starting to look at this as a real option.

There were massive protests…

There were massive protests in Arizona, Texas and Florida? SMH This will fool nobody - even Trump isn't running with that.

Exactly, this is not saying…

Exactly, this is not saying that there will be football this fall. Also this:

In addition, the Conference announced that summer athletic activities will continue to be voluntary in all sports currently permitted to engage in such activities. Furthermore, Big Ten student-athletes who choose not to participate in intercollegiate athletics at any time during the summer and/or the 2020-21 academic year due to concerns about COVID-19 will continue to have their scholarship honored by their institution and will remain in good standing with their team.

Does this mean that all football practices will have to be voluntary?

Looking more likely no HS…

Looking like there may not be HS football in Texas this Fall

Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa:

"I'm starting to have second thoughts" about being able to open schools Aug. 17 due to coronavirus, and "I seriously doubt" there will be high school football in Texas this fall.

There is little to no…

There is little to no studies on children and Covid-19. That said, I don't see why if they are asymptomatic like other young people they wouldn't spread it just like teens and young adults. Unless, you are suggesting that young children are somehow born with immunities - and I have seen nothing that shows that.

I think it is more likely that we have kept the young home since this Spring while older children and young adults have been out. That could all change in a month or two.

Finally, being asymptomatic doesn't mean that the virus is not doing damage to your body.

Ohio is definitely heading…

Ohio is definitely heading in the wrong direction already - two times in the last week over 1k new cases and are back to where they were early on. Michigan also had back to back 600+ new cases.

I see you are getting…

I see you are getting downvoted here but the current belief among health officials is 40% chance of a vaccine by the end of 2021, 30% in 2022. So for all those that think somehow we are going to have a distributed vaccine in 2020 or even early 2021 are being misled.

I saw a poll at the end of June that currently only like 50% of people in the United States would even voluntarily receive the vaccine.

We need a sea change in leadership and it can't get here quickly enough.

I can see how they can have…

I can see how they can have a social distancing seating plan but how do they handle the crowds at the bottlenecks like ticket entry, concessions and bathrooms?

"What was the ideal course…

"What was the ideal course of action?  I am not sure anyone knows those answers."

I think there are plenty of examples of countries that handled this much MUCH better than us.

A Pandemic doesn't care…

A Pandemic doesn't care about your freedoms. This view is why we are going to suffer from this for much longer than other nations.

This is parody right?

This is parody right?

We should have all the…

We should have all the advantages over any country considering our health systems, scientists, money etc but the biggest difference is lack of leadership and centralized response.

If we learn anything from this it has to be that our response to a pandemic has to be at the national level and not state level. We need better leadership - look at the two countries that are struggling the most US and Brazil. Finally, everybody has to be on board otherwise we all suffer the fools.

Considering only a small…

Considering only a small percentage ok kids in Michigan are going to play College Football I think this makes sense and hopefully by that time we will have a vaccine.

"It was painfully obvious…

"It was painfully obvious that his inability to consistently connect on intermediate and deep throws held the offense back"

This. We left a lot of yards on the field.

I've been watching the…

I've been watching the various replays on whether it's college football or old Detroit Tigers games. Hopefully, if anything does get canceled the sports channels will have a full slate of replays. I've actually been surprised how ok I have been without it - but I set my expectations low for a return this year.

Ugh I can't disagree more…

Ugh I can't disagree more about Shea. I've been rewatching the 2019 season and I want to pull my hair out every time that Shea missed a guy or threw it off target enough that the play wasn't a big gain. Sooo frustrating.

My Son is taking a 'gap'…

My Son is taking a 'gap' year from College - and I know others that are doing the same thing. He has an internship lined up that he can do remotely for the year. I realize that most don't have the options to do this and I do feel bad for those that are facing this with school age children and especially those that have to also rely on daycare because of work.

Found this article: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-covid-19-makes-people-lose-their-sense-of-smell1/

"This may point to widespread death of sensory neurons or central damage in some individuals. Because olfactory symptoms can occur very early in the disease, before respiratory symptoms, this may make understanding the virus’ entry into cells in the olfactory sensory epithelium particularly important for understanding infection."

Saw an article where Rudy…

Saw an article where Rudy Gobert says that his sense of smell is still not 100% after getting Covid-19 back in March. Question for any medical experts here what would be the reason for this? - I assume that in his case this isn't nasal congestion. Could this be nerve damage for instance?

You two have a lot in common ;-)

Same here. Both my parents…

Same here. Both my parents will most likely not survive if they catch it both live in Michigan. I also know probably 20 people that also would be in the same situation and that is just ones that I know of the underlying conditions/age.

If it actually happens I'm sure that TV viewership will be probably through the roof.

In another sport I have a feeling that day trippers and reddit boys are going have a rough remainder of the month as the big boys thank them for running it up.

Can someone tell me how I…

Can someone tell me how I should feel about this move?

I've been prescribed…

I've been prescribed prednisone for times when my immune system gets overly aggressive and I break out into a rash which basically nothing else can stop once it gets started. I've been wondering if the same type of steroid treatment would work for cases where the damage is coming from basically the bodies response to the virus which I believe is the main cause for death in coronavirus.

But like others no doubt heard early on they decided to not go that route and I can't remember why but like with my case the skin is just another organ so hopefully this helps. Prednisone and dexamethasone are both corticosteroids and both are cheap even without insurance.

Side note for a long time doctors thought that rashes I would get were the result of poison ivy or oak or something else and it wasn't until I saw a nurse practitioner in Northern Michigan on vacation one day that she listened and then correctly identified it as a result of stress. Since that time like 10 years ago I have only had the issue once more and now know that if my wrists start to itch I start to look for ways to reduce stress etc.

Florida over 4k cases today…

Florida over 4k cases today which is the most cases in any state since early May in NY and NJ. Also, Orlando just passed a mandatory mask mandate starting today: It states that every person either working, living or visiting must wear a mask in public.

and there is also this: In a…

and there is also this: In a WSJ interview a couple of days ago Trump said some Americans might wear face masks not as a way to prevent the spread of coronavirus but as a way to "signal disapproval of him."

Yes it was initially a…

Yes it was initially a vanity decision. He thinks it makes him look weak just like wearing glasses. He won't let anyone see him wearing glasses which has enabled people to read/photograph his notes because they have to print the words large enough for him to be able to read without them.

"but a large portion of that…

"but a large portion of that is that we are testing many more than we were before"

This simply isn't true and it's been shown that testing in these states has been flat or decreasing but positive rates have been going through the roof. Also hospitalizations up, percentage of tested being positive up but don't take my word for it listen to what the health professionals in these states are saying.

Here is an example: Orange County, Florida:
June 6th - 1 out of 50 tested returned positive
June 19th - 1 out of 6 tested returned positive

It's spreading and at a rate that is scary. Yesterday, we had over 33K new cases and cases across the world shattered the previous number. But go ahead and be fooled again by the same people saying the same things they did back in February...

No one wants to be the one…

No one wants to be the one to make the inevitable decision and I guess I can't blame them considering the amount of hate that person will receive even though it is for the health benefit of their students, athletes and/or constituents.

Look at the Covid-19 charts in Europe and Asia... that could have been us...  but for whatever reason a large percentage of Americans just can't follow guidance and use common sense preventions like masks and social distancing. Now it is too late for the Fall - maybe people will come to their senses and we can have sports and a normal life back in 2021... maybe.

More than 20% of Arizona's test came back positive today. 1 out of 6 tests in Orange county Florida (Orlando) are coming back positive today - this was 1 out of 50 on June 6th. Harris County Texas (Houston) is reporting over 1.1K positive cases today alone. This is going to get out of control quickly.

This will be a record year…

This will be a record year for homeschooling.

Realistically, there are so…

Realistically, there are so many scenarios that would shut down a team, a conference and/or consequently a NCAA season even if it started that I don't understand how they are seriously thinking that a season is going to happen. NFL maybe - where everyone is following the same rules and there can be strict oversight and isolation but even then it will probably only happen if there are no fans.

Exactly. People think that…

Exactly. People think that being a cop is the most dangerous job but you are more likely to die in professions like: Logging, Fishing, Roofing, Construction, Delivery, Landscaping, Farming, etc

Low pay?  Compared to what?

Low pay?  Compared to what?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average cop makes about $60,270 per year, or roughly $28.97 per hour. In comparison, the median American salary is about $43,000 per year. The average cop's salary will vary greatly depending on their location in the country. That cop in Buffalo that was fired was making 81K.

Not to mention the requirements to actually become a cop compared to similar paid jobs:

Getting a high school diploma or GED is the minimum formal education requirement for most police officers. Many law enforcement organizations may require or prefer applicants with a bachelor's degree, associate's degree or a certain number of postsecondary education credits.

Zero respect??  Come on man...

Most cops are good people and good cops - but as long as all cops protect the bad ones the negativity will affect all... see basically any institution political or religious. And FFS stop with the pity party over half this country worships cops.

Yep. A lot of people in the Democratic party do not like Hillary and in 2015/16 people didn't know how Trump would govern. Everyone likes Biden and now we know exactly what a Trump presidency looks like.

I don't think anyone cares if a bunch of fascists use various gestures online or in public -  it's when individuals in the armed forces or police departments that use it where people get concerned.

Nice to see you are only using one these days

This is setting up for a…

This is setting up for a very ugly scenario this Fall

- Southern/Western states just now getting the first wave.
- Mass evictions (families and small businesses)
- Layoffs when PPP money runs out (thankfully this was extended but most will have used up the loan before August)
- Reduction in unemployment benefits (extra $600 a month ends July 31st)

If the Stock Market remains high/overpriced the Senate will not be motivated to pass any additional stimulus.

Might as well add Florida as…

Might as well add Florida as they are spiking and have already hit a record number of cases before noon today and this isn't just Dade county anymore but places like Orange County (Orlando).

This is going to be interesting as it seems states like Michigan will probably be better for sporting events than Florida later this summer.

The Arizona state health director is urging hospitals to "fully activate" emergency plans. They are very worried.
