I'm not sure any coach in the world could win with Anderson, Skelton or Kolb.
That's on the front office.

Another stroke of brilliance. How you don't have a General Manager job yet is beyond me.

Took the Cards to the Super Bowl when they had Warner, who prior to teaming up with Whisenhunt had looked done, and this year Rivers had his best season in years with Whisenhunt as OC. Stafford, though he has his faults, is definitely a NFL starter, unlike the Skelton and Skeltonesque guys Whisenhunt was stuck with after Warner retired.

Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers, Kurt Warner. The Lions can only hope to be what the Steelers organization. The closest they can get was one of the Steelers old coordinators, Whisenhunt, who was a very good offensive coordinator for the Steelers.

The Steelers have how many rings? How many times have the Lions been to the SB or better yet how many playoff wins do the Lions have? The Steelers almost made the playoffs this year after a horrible start. Once they got their injured players back they made a serious run including a victory over the Lions, but Lions fans would rather have a team that folds down the stretch.

Dungy or Gruden. Make it happen.

Why would they if they haven't already? You either have that competitive fire, or you don't. There is zero gain for either to leave at this point. They have cushy high paying jobs, get to go home and have sex with their wives (I HAD SEX WITH YOUR WIFE!) at night, sleep in most days if they want to... Yeah, not happening, yet people will continue to say there's a chance (so you're saying there's a chance.jpg).

It seems like the real rush was for Whisenhunt, and that's not happening. It seems that the Lions remain a very attractive job, but with Whisenhunt off the market, is there any particular urgency to locking down a head coach in the next few days?
I understand they don't want to take too long (you need to assemble coordinators, assistant coaches, and get ready for the draft). But I'd hate to see them rush to hire someone (Munchak) solely because their love for Whisenhunt was unrequited and they want to appear "decisive".
Why am I wrong on this?

I was never a huge fan of Wisenhunt, but there really don't seem to be any decent candidates now.

I'd say it's time for the Lions to go Costanza and just do the exact opposite of what they were planning to do. Rather than hire a crappy former NFL head coach, they should hire an extremely successful current peewee coach.

If they go Constanza perhaps Schwartz will return to his former office and pretend he didn't get that he got fired, and maybe he'll be coaching the Lions again this year... maybe the Lions wouldn't be that upset

Not good. Lions are in a tough spot now, but I sort of expected this.

Mike Zimmer anyone???

That would be WAY better than Caldwell or Munchak.

If I'm not mistaken the Lions expressed interest and Zimmer turned them down.

Most likely. I believe he had a second interview with the Vikings yesterday.
