1-3-1 COMEBACK MUPPETS
Yes, a 16-point second-half comeback featuring brilliant adjustments to overcome major matchup issues against a good team merits the full Muppet treatment. We're in dire need of them, anyway.
And you can't have one without the other...
Recap of this one will be up shortly. Short version: WOOOOOO STAUSKAS/MCGARY

Not muppet worthy imo but I am being a hater.

Yes sir, you are!

If the FSU/VCU game had occured on a Sunday and this game a Monday, the Seminoles would have been a ranked in the high teens. A 16-point second half comeback against a top-20 team is cause for some happiness.

Legitimately one of the best coaches out there. Some phenomenal adjustments were made out there today. It feels great to have such a phenomenal in game coach.

to figure out how to defend FSU (last four minutes)? I am beginning to think it was dumb luck. He is a good recruiter.
November 22nd, 2013 at 7:58 PM ^
That's just idiotic.

Jesus. STFU. You don't have a damn clue.

Sarcasm?

Meaning you don't have a lot to say, and when you do say something, it's.... interesting.

There are basketball teams in East Lansing, Columbus, Bloomington, and Madison that would love to have your "support." Check 'em out.

I think MLive is more his style. RCMB is probably too high-brow for him.

I wish Stauskas were a little more reliable from the line. 75% on 12 attempts seems horrible for a guy who can't miss open 3s.
November 22nd, 2013 at 7:46 PM ^
Stauskas was automatic 85-90% from the line last year, he's totally in his head at the free throw line right now.
November 22nd, 2013 at 7:53 PM ^
And 75% isn't terrible. He'll be in that range (85-90%) by the end of the year.
November 22nd, 2013 at 7:43 PM ^
he's almost certainly the perfect man for Michigan. Brilliant hire.
November 22nd, 2013 at 7:58 PM ^
He took a lot of criticism his first couple of years here. Everyone thought he was just a Princeton system guy that could not recruit talent. If the BB program was as visable as ourfootball program at the time, he would have been on the hot seat. Patience paid off.

As it will with Hoke.
November 22nd, 2013 at 8:30 PM ^
Beilein was struggling a bit and he cleaned house. Worked brilliantly for him
If Hoke continues to struggle a bit, will he have the balls to at least partially clean house?

Great coach who maximizes talent, and wins the coaching battles
November 22nd, 2013 at 8:06 PM ^
he was a proven winner pretty much everywhere, over decades.

That was a Muppet-worthy comeback against a team that just demolished VCU. The only thing better than an early-season loss that you can learn from (e.g., Iowa State) is an early-season victory you can learn from. Still lots of mistakes, but the team is starting to jell.
Having said that, these Muppets should in no way preclude further Muppets on Sunday should things go our way against Charlotte. A tournament title is a tournament title. :-)
Go Blue!

If we get servicable play from the pg this team could make some noise.
November 22nd, 2013 at 8:29 PM ^
Check back in January, friend
November 22nd, 2013 at 9:19 PM ^
Walton gave us 15 points and 6 assists tonight.
November 22nd, 2013 at 9:34 PM ^
I think our idea of what constitutes "serviceable" PG play has been distorted by three straight years of outstanding PG play. Walton made a lot of mistakes but he made a lot of really good plays as well, and most teams would kill to have a PG like Spike to bring off the bench.

Wasn't that a near replay of the Pitt game from last year? Struggle early, deploy the 1-3-1 against a big physical team n the second half, utterly baffle them and win?
November 22nd, 2013 at 8:07 PM ^
Switching to the 1-3-1 wins us a game (usually in the tournaments too!) Two years ago, Memphis @ Maui. Last year, Pitt @ Madison Square Garden.

and we're lucky to have him. For all the times Al Borges makes us want to hit our heads on a wall, John Beilein has a win where he gets a win with a brilliant game plan.
VCU...
Syracuse...
FSU tonight
It's so great to have him as a coach. Never retire
