We are over by 3 scholarship. But we need to account for Dytarious Johnson who has yet to qualify academically. We also need to set aside scholarship for Glasgow and Allen who are walk-on but deserving of scholarship.

Don't like this one one it. Pulling a scholarship offer so close to signing day! Makes me appreciate John Beilein even more. JB may not bring a national championship trophy but he goes about winning in a right way.

Dont like it one bit when the press are touting us to be better than Sparty and Ohio. This usually mean trouble and underachiving team. Lots of pressure on the team. Did they forget we almost lost to Minnesota and got killed by Ohio? One comforting note, at least Vegas also agrees with the press.

I am still not a buyer of this team until they show that they can defend. Against Bryant, one of the worst offensive team in the nation, they are allowing 0.95 point per possession. They can't rebound, protect the rim and stop penetration. Unless they improve defensively, their ceiling will be a first round ncaa tourney team.

Penn State is not a walkover. If this is a tight game ala Minnesota and Indiana, I think our playoff chance is pretty much over. Computers and Vegas think this is going to be a very tight game, albeit with a slight advantage to us. But a 21-20 victory is unlikely to impress the committee. Let next week play out, then we talk about playoff. Now it is way too early.

Let's cool down on the talk that John Beilein can recruit elite-talent level. Sure, JB has a keen eye for talent. He is also really good at developing those talent. But UM is still a notch below Kentucky, Duke, UNC and Kansas when it comes to recruiting. You can even throw MSU, Indiana and OSU as teams that have recruited better than UM. Let's face it. JB's system is not easy to learn and not many kids can flourish in the system as a freshman. In this age of one-and-done, I can see why some kids pick other schools.

I will be majorly disappointed if we leave the slot empty and bank it for 2016. We should have at the very least kept Max Bielfeldt or Austin Hatch.
I will be somewhat disapponted if we pluck yet another unranked recruits. While I do not for one second doubt Beilein's eye for talent but this is akin to asking Belichick to fill his NFL roster with undrafted rookie. Is there any chance we can steal some of Florida's recruit now that Donovan is off to coach the Thunder?

The only negative about this news is that it killed my dream that Austin Hatch will shoot the game winning 3-point shot for UM in the NCAA Championship when he is a senior and fully regained his strength. Part of me wished that JB will continue to keep him on the roster for a flicker of hope that Austin Hatch might just play a role in the basketball court and perhaps even made the NBA. Well, may be Austin Hatch can become our basketball coach in 2030!

I believe that if JB is given the annual talent that Kentucky, Kansas, UNC and Duke gets, we would be an annual Final Four contender. If he continues to recruit under radar talents, we wd be a Final Four threat once every 4 yrs when those kids develop...

Trust in JB? I think while everyone is aware that JB has a keen eye for talent, we must not forget that the Team that made the Finals was not possible without GR3 and Mcgary both of whom are borderline 5 star talent. I m disappointed that we hv not been able to parlay that final appearance into a Top3 Big Ten recruiting power house ( we r still lagging behind OSU, IU and MSU). I m still excited and hopeful in JB's leadership but I wd hv prefered to hv gotten the likes of Booker, Swanigan and Thornton.

We need a point guard and we have alot of wings at the moment. Irvin, Levert, MAAR, Dawkins, Duncan Robinson are all wings. I wd prefer we bank the scholarship for next year where we have a dire needs at PG. Spike is graduating and Walton is going to be a junior.

I can't wait to root for Mr Higdon and see him become the top rusher in the Big Ten!
|1 year 1 week ago||I dont believe this one bit!!!||
While I do not have evidence to the contrary, I don't buy this one bit. Every great sportsman has a great drive towards excellence. It is up to the coach to motivate so that each player performs up to the maximum regardless of emotional commitment. I do think that at some point, there is such a thing as spreading your resources too thin if you want to recruit nationally. With that much more recruits to evaluate, you tend to focus on athleticism/skills over intangables (such as great work ethics, desire and character). This is where the team can lose out in the long run because we know great work ethics trumps talents most of the time.

Is there any NCAA rule that prevents him from doing that? UM will just pay his father USD 300,000 more in his contract! Wouldnt that be the smart thing to do?

Go Horford. Even when you play Michigan, I hope you score 30 points and 10 rebounds and yet Florida still lose to Michigan by 10 points.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Great Name||
but not sure if he is an under the radar pick-up. Under the radar recruits are those who only blew up late in the year. MAAR has been around for a while. Even Rivals has a 2012 article about him being an up-and-coming star. Obviously he hasnt improved much over the past 2 years but if you have Wisconsin and Temple monitoring him two year ago, he cant be an under the radar pick-up. Having said that, we do need a good slasher and defender like MAAR. JB can spot talent and can coach but can he teach a kid how to shoot?

I wish Jon Horford all the best in his next destination. He has been a Michigan man through and through. His plays and quotes will be desperately missed irregardless. We don't know his reason for transfering. Could be for basketball but given what we know about him, I wouldnt be surprised if it is because of education or family. So please stop trashing the guy and thank him for his contributions in the past 4 years instead.

As a fan, without a doubt, a Final Four appearance trumps Big Ten tournament champ or Big Ten regular season champ. Certainly it is harder to be in Final Four than to be Big Ten regular season or tourney champ. There is only 4 Final Four banners to be won for the whole country but many regular conference championship banner. So Final Four banners trumps regular season championship or tournament championships.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||Last Year's Draft was really weak||
1) I do not think that any of last year's draftee are going to be perennial all-star or even a starter in a Championship team. You have the likes of Oladipo, Burke, MCW and THJ who are probably potential solid starter or back-up. The rest require at least 2-3 years to develop their game and are unlikely to perennial all-star.
2) While I wd hv prefered to have Burke + Cap Space rather than Jennings + KCP, I don't think it is going to hurt us that badly in the long run. I would have prefered to give Charlotte our draft pick last year and be done with it.
3) At the end of the day, what will really help the Pistons is a real bona-fide coach who can teach the team some defense. I believe someone like Thibs, Pops or even our old coach Rick Carlisle wd have delivered a better job coaching this team. Carlisle is doing a much better job with Monta Ellis than Pistons with Brandon Jennings. Dumars shd hv ponied up last year and hire Lionel Hollins or even tried their luck with Phil Jax. Those hires wd hv made Pistons a number 6-8 seeds in the week East but with the ability to coax good free agents to come to Detroit.

I will start caring once he picked Michigan. The season long drama of the high school player's top 3/5/7/10 is full of guesses and hypothesis. Wake me up when the football season starts...
|1 year 46 weeks ago||UM favoured by 1.5 points||
I think Michigan will be in trouble this weekend. Opening odds have Michigan favoured by only 1.5 points. That low point spread is an almost unheard of for a 2-seed over an 11-seed. I can see the public in general rushing to pick Michigan while the "experts" pick Tennesse. Where are you Bruce Pearl??? We want you back!!
