Uniformz: Nike Turqoise basketball unis for Native American Heritage Month
I don't even know what to say.

November is Native American Heritage Month, and anyone who is aware of Nike’s N7 program knows that the program is dedicated to the cause of bringing awareness to various issues affecting Native Americans and Aboriginals in North America.

So will they be making one for the Redskins?

Classic.
Also, could turquoise be considered a stereotype?? If so, LOL Nike.

Only if the coach shows up drunk...
would be a terrible thing to put as a response.

I mean, because the team is Neveda....

I don't even think they look too bad in a desert southwest sort of way.
November 13th, 2013 at 11:35 AM ^
celebrated Native American Heritage Month in this manner for several seasons.

if that is "UNIFORMZZZZ" then call me the ZZZZ man.
November 13th, 2013 at 11:43 AM ^
Why does adidas do the same thing for basketball jerseys and just change the colors and name? Why can't they sit down with University officials and come up with unique jerseys for each school? Nike seems to have a wider range of jersey designs.

but they are not particularly creative.
#culturalstereotypes

Your comment fills me with something that I believe people of other nations would call a "feeling," but I am unable to describe its characteristics in a way that would communicate a sufficient quantum of meaning.

I am both German and Native American and am feeling totally mocked right now.

about the uniforms.
November 13th, 2013 at 11:54 AM ^
Why is Nevada shown twice? And what do those other schools besides the Seminoles have to do with Native Americans?
edit: They also say 5 teams will be wearing the uniforms but only list 4 schools. Then they show each uni individually as if it's a different school. I don't think they realize Nevada is the same school as Nevada...
November 13th, 2013 at 11:57 AM ^
Some of the schools have involved themselves in the program even though they don't have a particular connection to a tribe.
November 13th, 2013 at 12:09 PM ^
Someone in the comments said that you're looking at the uniforms for both the men's and women's basketball teams in the case of Nevada. As a general comment though, I sort of like the combination for the Lobos myself - that one actually doesn't look bad at all.

For 2013? About a month and a half.

when we commemorate being aware of stuff.

If you are going to honor Native Americans and use Turquoise to do so how do you not include Arizona?
November 13th, 2013 at 12:26 PM ^
Eventually, should all schools just ditch their colors and wear rotating colors every month for a different cause? Let's just do that. I didn't like maize and blue anyway and my attention span is far too short to pay attention to the same color all season.

in all Native American cultures, since its sources in North America are predominantly in the southwest. Would tribes in the upper midwest have used turquoise in any way?
November 13th, 2013 at 12:41 PM ^
to inspire unis for upcoming seasons.
November 13th, 2013 at 12:49 PM ^
Tribes in the Southwest have about as much in common with those of the Midwest or Northeast as Portuguese people have with Chechens. But "Awareness" is fundamentally about finding the laziest way possible to show we care, so it's easier to just pretend they all wore feathers, lived in teepees, used the color tourquoise, and worshipped the Great Spirit.
November 13th, 2013 at 12:57 PM ^
As you may well know, various valuable items traveled remarkable distances around North and South America via trade. I'm sure it was used much more in the southwest, but it's possible that the Seminoles acquired it too. I don't know.

Boom!
But in a caring way
November 13th, 2013 at 1:17 PM ^
I was going to make a joke about the North Dakota Fighting Sioux.
But then I realized that their colors already include something like turqoise!
Thi shi cray. (Technically, UND's colors are green, black and white. But you be the judge. And yeah; I think UND is a Nike school.)
November 13th, 2013 at 3:35 PM ^
I might be colorblind because I only see green. I guess their green is closer to turquoise than the sparty green.
November 13th, 2013 at 4:09 PM ^
One of us doesn't know what color turquoise is.
November 13th, 2013 at 1:29 PM ^
...had no idea the Beavers had anything to do with Native Americans.
November 13th, 2013 at 1:39 PM ^
baby Native Americans come from?
