Bellomy tears ACL
In stark contrast to my earlier post, Russell Bellomy has torn his ACL in spring practice. Can't be good news for being able to redshirt Shane Morris, or for QB depth or for Bellomy himself, obviously.

From the official Michigan Football Twitter account, he tore it Friday during practice.
Even he is foreced to play this year, he could red shirt next year.
If he does that, it means he got injured or in massive trouble. There is almost no way they'd redshirt for any other reason...it just doesn't happen
MInus the fact that Bellomy will be back and Gardner will be a RSSr QB
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. Two scholarship QBs in the fall, one scholarship QB in the spring. Fucking fuck.
Get your ass back to the Purdue campus.
This is not good. I wonder if its the turf at Glick or just crazy bad luck.
Unfortunate. Looks like Morris will be a back-up
Well, Morris can potentially redshirt his sophomore season still assuming Gardner doesn't declare early. It may not affect Shane's long term status at all.
Not saying it would, but it is an option if the coach's value Morris' extra year of eligibility over having what may amount to a slight upgrade at a 2nd string position (Albeit a key backup position).
I thought the rule was if you don't redshirt as a freshman, you can't redshirt down the line unless it's for medical reasons.
That's not how it works in NCAA 13.
I stand corrected. EA knows its shit.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
so true
taking #2 reps. Then you're replacing what would be wonderful depth with another true freshman.
Redshirt the likely number 2 QB so that we can possibly burn Speight's redshirt. Brilliant!!
You'd be using Bellomy for mop up. Who'd be a redshirt Junior.
You don't announce or necessarily decide on redshirts at the beginning of the season. Morris will play if he's needed. If he isn't, it makes sense to preserve a possible redshirt. At this point, nobody knows where Morris will be on the depth chart in 2014.
But if it is, they have a senior writer at RIvals and the official M-Football Twitter account in on it (and Ace was among those fooled).
Nothing against Mr. Bellomy, but there would be two dozen guys on the roster who have bigger impacts more conducive to being an April Fools joke.....I think.
No Aprils fools. It's legit.
April Fools?
on a side note, bye bye for any chance at a real spring game.
12 | Devin Gardner | QB | 6-4 | 210 | RS Jr. | Detroit, MI |
6 | Brian Cleary | QB | 6-3 | 199 | RS Fr. | Detroit, MI |
13 | Alex Swieca | QB | 6-1 | 210 | RS So. | New York, NY |
15 | Shaun Austin | QB | 6-1 | 204 | RS Fr. | Plymouth, MI |
There are more than 2 QBs on the roster. Give the walkons a chance to show something. Would be a thrill for them.
Plus as shown below, Gorgeous is high on Cleary.
thats 2 players in 2 weeks with torn acl's. why risk a game when they can just have the "scrimmage" they have done the last 7-8 years.
They still tackled in the scrimmages. The only difference between a game and a scrimmage is the format and it has an actual game feel.
It's not like scrimmages are flag football.
no i wasnt. i was there in 01-03 when it was way more football than the last few years have been. hey maybe im wrong but i bet that this years "game" is just like last years.
Hoke mentioned having a draft and an actual game. The first time I have heard the word draft and spring game in almost 15 years.
Sorry to hear for many reasons. Bellomy- wishing you a speedy recovery. Keep your head up.
Shane, you better be working your ass off now, preparing both physically and mentally, because after DG, you're it!
Two torn ACLs in one Spring? Damn, we need to stay healthy.
do i just not pay enough attention to msu and osu off season? because i don't much ever hear of them suffering acl's during practice like we seem to. or have they suffered a few as well the last few years?
Get ready to back up Devin, Shane cause you're on deck now.
but didn't want to create the thread bearing such bad news. Also being April Fools Day and all...
Damn! Damn! Damn!
Serious things should not happen on April 1st. First I got sad, then I got suspicious, then I felt foolish, then reason kicked in and I got sad again. Should have just stayed sad. Getting sad twice sucks.
Devin Gardner should practice all his throws from a chair until august. This sucks.
That man who figures out how to prevent this injury is going to make a lot of money.
I feel really bad for Bellomy, but it's hard to bring me down from this Final Four high.
As would the woman who figures it out. However, she'd make only 2/3 of what the man would.
BOOM. Gender inequality'd.
I've never actually done any research on it, and frankly I've never cared to. I just wanted to sling some dogma crap out there for the sake of making a joke.
This author may disagree but she doesn't do so convincingly:
Merely stating other partial explanations for the pay gap does not automatically imply that discrimination is not a cause as well, that would be faulty logic.
The author pays lipservice to the idea that women are socialized into lower paying jobs but doesn't go on to consider the gendering of labor itself, or how some jobs (nursing and teaching as two examples) are culturally considered to be "women's work" and have been historically undercompensated. This is not to mention the completely unpaid labor of child rearing and homemaking. Men are increasingly contributing in these areas but the majority of this work is still done by women.
Finally, she doesn't mention at all the fact that women are found far less often than men in high level management roles and generally have less power in the workplace.
Things are definitely getting better for working women, but progress is not instantaneous and there is definitely a ways to go.
Right, my post above is completely offtopic but the original sexist remarks and the link to the forbes article are completely on topic. I am singlehandedly responsible for derailing this thread.
You can do better, MGoBoard.
/s. kinda
Or just think, "Forbes said it, it must be true!"
