I've thought long and hard…

I've thought long and hard about this and have settled on the following: to hell with Notre Dame.

Make no mistake - there are fewer things in life I hate more than that godforsaken state/program, but I've justified my choice with the following logic:

  1. Recruiting. We compete head-to-head for recruits with ND more than any other program, including Ohio. They've been on fire lately. The more quickly that fire is extinguished, the better for us. Hell, if ND chokes this year we could have a shot at flipping a player or two.
  2. Conference Realignment. I've always believed ND would fall somewhere between Wisconsin and Penn State had they competed in the B1G. They're afraid of the competition, so they've avoided joining at all costs. I realize this game won't change anything regarding re-alignment, but I want them to get their asses kicked for not joining the damn conference already.
  3. As alluded to above, ND as an institution and fanbase think they're way better than they are. They also praise Freeman like he's Saban when his only game as a HC was a loss in last year's bowl game. I want each and every ND fans hopes and dreams to be crushed and laugh as they fall back to planet earth and off the national radar again.
  4. Last, and certainly not least, I want OSU to be riding high and having no excuses when we storm into Columbus in November and whoop that ass. AGAIN!

Regardless of what I want to happen, my football IQ is telling me OSU rolls something to the effect of 44-23.

But wait... he didn't commit…

But wait... he didn't commit during the BBQ at the Big House so aren't we supposed to be disappointed?

Welcome, Mr. Link!

42-27

Double post. Does this mean I need to post my real last 4 now?

42-27

42-27

According to the tipoff show…

As others have mentioned, the tipoff show says Hunter is out with a "stomach ailment."  Woof.

Well, fuck.

Well, fuck.

Call me ignorant, but I…

Call me ignorant, but I really don’t get the obsession over Harbaugh’s salary. Frankly it’s kind of weird to me. The ones who consistently beat the ever-loving piss out of this narrative consist mostly of rival fan bases and national pundits - none of whom are impacted in any way by how much JH earns.

Is this narrative used for anyone else among the top 10 highest paid coaches? Gus Malzahn has gone 7-6, 8-5, 10-4, 8-5 and 9-4 since JH stepped foot on campus. Tom Herman has gone 7-6, 10-4 and 8-5 over the last three seasons. Both earn within $1M of JH; I have not heard this narrative used once against either of them. I read something yesterday on the Twitter sphere from someone who covers the team listing active CFB coaches who have more wins than Harbaugh during his tenure at Michigan. How many names were on the list? Four.

I get it. Do we want a B1G title? Of course. Do we want to perform better against and consistently beat OSU? Absolutely. Are we exactly where we want to be right now as a program? Nope. Would reducing JH’s salary make you feel better about any of the aforementioned things? It certainly should not. I didn’t watch any sub-.500 seasons with RR or BH and think to myself, “Well at least he only makes $4 million dollars!”

The University and AD structured a contract with JH as it stands today because of the buying power of the NFL - you know, where we hired him from. Funny how he is a rumored candidate for nearly every single NFL job, every season but he is isn’t good enough to coach in AA.

There are legitimate critiques about the program and our staff. We all know what these things are. The salary of the coach ain’t one of ‘em.

JH and the program have plenty of work to do to get where we all want them to be. JH has shown he is willing to make large scale changes for the sake of improvement. We will get this thing right, even if it’s taking longer than we’d all like. If not, maybe we can pay the same salary to Tom Herman to sprinkle his fairy dust in Schembechler Hall. I’m sure the pundits and rival fan bases would be more satisfied.

Okay. I’ll get off my soapbox and go back to doing nothing again :)

Yes, I am aware. It's still…

Yes, I am aware. It's still an uncanny precedence of the mindset of OSU administrators in situations like these.

Urban will stay unless their hand is forced.

“No, are you kidding me? Let…

“No, are you kidding me? Let me be very clear. I’m just hoping the coach doesn’t dismiss me.”

Grayson Allen

Crosby is the Grayson Allen of the NHL

Molk

Molk is probably the best example, no?

This is staggering

It's been since the M00N game Fergodsakes!?

Yeah

Because it worked so well for them against OSU.

In all seriousness, I do hope that Harbaugh and company bring their intensity out of the gates next weekend.

Not much of a betting man...

But this should be a very good matchup. If nothing else, Peters has shown the ability to avoid the pass rush and find the open man downfield. While acknowledging that we don't know too much of his abilities or his flaws, his ability to evade he rush should prove handy in this one.

I initially thought this was a night game in Madison, which had me worried. Now I am really looking forward to Saturday.

May the best team win.

What was that all about?

Nordin must have some major plums to go toe to toe with Harbaugh like that. Was Harbaugh supposed to call the one that made the ball go through the uprights?

Good Guys

31-13

Coach Mac

Should release an updated roster so we can "tell who we'll be playing" come Saturday.

It's Great...

...to be... A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE.

The real question

Will Tressel try to cover it up?

The future....

The future is bright.... GO BLUE.

Training

A lot has to deal with training in my mind. Football and basketball require different training because they demand different body types. You see what players have to do (Lewan, Clark, Butt, etc) to prepare for just football. I realize that Harris is not a lineman, but WRs still need to be strong to be effective blockers in our offense and go through rigorous workouts to get to that level.

To devote the time and effort necessary to be in ideal shape for each sport would be extremely difficult. Not to mention the seasons (briefly) overlapping AND playin' skool too....

Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer makes snow angels

Michigan vs OSU

Michigan.... Undefeated

Ohio...... Defeated

I like 2014 more already.

First Friday

It's the first Friday of 2014. Which means it's Friday..... And it's no longer 2013....

Happy New Year!

2013 is over.

Our team is undefeated.

Fuck Ohio.

Just Curious...

Just curious but why do you feel that winning @MSU is more of a "monkey off the back" than @ND AND @OSU? We haven't beaten any of the above teams on the road under Hoke. If anything, I feel more pressure to win in South Bend (last meeting for the foreseeable future) and in Columbus (finally beating Meyer & winning in the shoe).

Personal Preference

Personal preference I suppose. The reason why I liked the UTL games was because they were and felt like national spectacles in the college football landscape... Two storied programs meeting early in the season with potential national title implications. Scheduling a night game against Maryland wouldn't be the same (not saying that would be the opponent).

Next Year

The home slate for next year is pretty soft. I'd almost rather not have a night game next year just for the sake of having one... Save them for the big(ger) games.

Fuck Ohio.

8====D O hio

Jay-Z

Do you like he's ridiculously good or ridiculously bad?

Are they good?

Are Penn State, Nebraska, and Iowa any good though? Penn State has a freshman QB and the depth of a Petri dish. Coming in to the Michigan game Nebraska was a tire fire in its own right with a pieced together O-line, their star QB out for the season, and having (what should've been) an easy defense to move the ball against. Is that the standard you hold this program to?

We should beat these teams at least 80% of the time we play them.

The parallels

Both are located in Washtenaw County, Michigan.

Please......

Please... Don't even start with the refs. They didn't have negative rushing yards against a terrible defense.

The refs missed calls both ways.

Good point, but...

You make a good point about reluctancy to blitz due to potential repercussions but I think you need to consider his impact on recruiting due to being an NFL coordinator.

Also, do you know that he is currently running his ideal scheme? To be clear, are you so sure that he would be implementing the same schemes if he had an experienced, senior-laden defense like MSU? If we had a more seasoned secondary and a more productive front four, I bet Mattison would bring pressure with a higher frequency than he does right now.

I don't think Mattison's NFL experience hurts us. To me, it would be unfair to say so until our defense is a finished product.

Devils Advocate

Theoretically... Couldn't Morris back DG up this year and then take a RS next year when Bellomy recovers?

I understand that Morris (especially with some game time reps under his belt) is likely to surpass Bellomy in the depth chart, but this could essentially "save" a year of him being a starter.

Clowney Hit

Anyone and everyone who does not respect that hit is dilusional and a homer. It was a great hit by a great player. Just like anyone and everyone who does not respect the hell out of Smith for getting right back up is a hater.

With that said, I will never understand how Ace Sanders didn't win the MVP for that game. He DID dominate us whereas Clowney was handled the entire game (with the exception of the hit, obviously). That still bothers me even as a Michigan fan. Ace deserved it.

Edit: this was supposed to be a reply to the part where people were discussing the downplay of the hut by some Michigan fans... Sorry I did this on an iPad.

One more year would've been great

One more year would've been great, but going to the NBA now was probably the best decision for him. Thank you for the memories, Trey, and for being a great representative of the Michigan program.

This is a HUGE get...

This is a HUGE get (obviously) because we should now have a deep and talented offense. Solid and deep OL, Devin Gardner/Shane Morris, Funchess/Butt, Green/Smith, Chesson/Darboh/Harris... This team will be difficult to stop on offense. Not to mention, our defense is on the up and up too.

This team will be scary for years to come...

April...

April Fools?

Knew that...

I was aware that the original story wasn't knew, however I thought the update would allow some of us to have a laugh at states expense. The story seemed to be showing up on many news sources as well.

Thanks for checking it out anyways.

Sorry for the thread jack... Sparty No

Sorry for the thread jack, but seeing as how I do not have enough points to make my own, I figured that I would pass this information along in the most recent board post. If anyone feels this story warrants its own thread, please create one on my behalf.

It appears that Jordan Drake - a former MSU Football recruit - was sentenced 18 months probation after facing felony charges for "adulterating a food item" in relation to his senior prank. Drake distributed breath mints containing a certain bodily fluid to his classmates. This is just an odd story, and it appears Drake lost his scholarship as a result.

With depth concerns and AF

With depth concerns and AF as our opponent, one that Coach Hoke and his staff has loads of respect for, I don't see this staff running the score up on AF. I think we jump out early and end up getting second stringers out on the field. Because of this, the final score wont accurately reflect our teams performance.

Blake Countess

Countess is out for the year per Sam Webb twitter... If you feel this is thread-worthy can someone make a new thread? I don't have enough points.

They were better

They were the better team. Enough with this ref BS. Were there some missed/bad calls? Of course. Did they effect the outcome of the game? No. Teams never play a perfect game and refs never call a perfect game. That's the way it is.

I must admit...

I must admit... I was praying for anyone but Hoke to get the job during the search. I was very concerned about recruiting and thought Les and/or Harbaugh would be able to pull in recruits that Hoke would never get a chance to talk to. I couldn't have been any more wrong. Brady Hoke for President.

Whoever posted that GIF...

Whoever posted that GIF with the ice cream cone in the Bill Sheridan thread a couple days ago needs to bring that back!

It is clear that this rivalry has found new life and I CAN'T WAIT to see how it turns out. I like our chances.... Meyer doesn't scare me.

While watching Sullinger...

While watching Sullinger this whole game I was wondering how he was hitting those shots... The kid clearly has a world of talent and it's refreshing to see that he has some class too (especially coming from Ohio).
