Hello: PF/C Ricky Doyle (MBB)
Dave Telep@DaveTelep
Product of Michigan visit this weekend, JR PF Ricky Doyle (Bishop Verot) is now a Wolverine.
A bit of an under-the-radar recruit since he didn't play AAU ball, but according to ESPN had offers from tOSU, Miami (YTM), Purdue, and Notre Dame. Has been sidelined for a decent portion of the season due to ankle injury, IIRC.

Think skilled, but raw, big man, who has a developed post game, can hit the boards, and shoot the three in transition if needed. Solid defender as well.
Don't know much about his game but his offers include (according to ESPN):
Miami
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Purdue
Stanford.
His post game is his best aspect according to the initial scouting reports I'm seeing. Should have plenty of time to develop in the next year+.
umhoops:
Doyle, a 6-foot-9 230 pound big man from Fort Myers, Florida, was relatively under the radar after opting not play AAU basketball. Despite somehwat reduced attention, major schools took notice. Miami, Boston College, Purdue, Kansas State, Penn State, Washington, Stanford and USC were all heavily recuriting the talented post player.

"Doyle’s back-to-the-basket skills are second to none for a player his age"
Sounds like the type of player we need in the middle to balance the quickness and shooting we have on the outside. Should be a great addition.
CUE THE UPTON!!
Some may not agree with his post, but Trolling? How in the world can people call this Trolling? Some of you need to lighten up.
That's just disgusting.

ON! ON! I meant ON! darnit.
He had offers from Michigan, Miami (Fl), Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Purdue. As well as interest from Stanford. Very solid offers, but he didn't play AAU over the summer, which is where most of the recruits get exposure from college coaches. A very good prospect, go blue!
Nice footwork and the abillty to finish with both hands. He has a pretty smooth jumper as well.
Looks solid! Welcome to Michigan Ricky! Seems to have some very nice skills inside between finishing and blocking shots on defense.
I like it. He's posting up on the left and right blocks. It doesn't look like he's playing against many kids his size, but you can see that the footwork is definitely there.
I like that we should be able to redshirt this kid and let him practice for a year against kids his size.
While venturing into the potentially shallow territory of comparing players of a certain skin color to players of the same skin color, watching those highlights reminds me a lot of Nick Collison. Both have a solid post game and can knock down the mid range shot. Both are athletic enough to finish at the rim, but not quite explosive enough to go all De'Andre Jordan on somebody. They've got that other thing in common too...
If he ends up anywhere close to as good as Collison was at Kansas, we've got a heckuva player.
@2:15 He's already better than Morgan...

Too soon...

He throws it down HARD several times in his highlight videos.....I like.
great with both hands, has been playing in a motion offense like Beilein's, AND good with his back to the basket. Seven foot wingspan. His coach says that he will be a star and he wanted to go to a high-quality academic institution. Exactly the kid you want committing on the day after the IU loss.
They're identical twin brothers. Sorry.
jump hook, if he develops some more he could be pretty solid in the post. . .
How are his tip-in skills? Too soon?
still hurts too much
Well then you have given them a great lesson in sensitivity and vulnerability. What a guy.
He looks pretty developed for a post player in high school. Maybe a last minute growth spirt to put him a shade taller and he will be able to bang down low with best of them. At 6'9" he better play physical, the Big Ten has not been kind to guys that size this year unless they are physical. Seems like a solid pickup who can get some minutes to start and work his way into a big post player.
I don't think being physical will be an issue for this kid. Has a good frame and looks pretty strong.

1) Can he defend?
2) Can he rebound?
3) Can he box out an opposing player if he is not able to get a rebound?
4) Can he hit a "bunny?"
5) Does he dunk, instead of make a layup, given the opportunity?
6) Can he hit free throws?
These kids attempting to guard him is comical.
Because he's 5 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier than all of them?

Yes, I think that may have something to do with it.
Have seen him in person several times, albeit usually against lower-level competition, and he is impressive. Every December there is a high-level high school tournament here in Fort Myers called the City of Palms Classic. It usually brings in some heavy-weights from around the country. This past December he had to sit out with a stress fracture (foot I believe), which made headlines locally. The tournament is played at his school which is about 3 minutes from the office so I usually get to 5-6 games a season. I might try to post some thoughts/video now that he has committed. By all accounts he is a quality kid as well as a great basketball player.
Please do. Consider yourself THE local source for Ricky Doyle game analyses and highlights. Or I could ask my dad to do this since he lives in your neck of the woods, but video cameras and the interwebz scare him.
Classic. Can't wait to see what the Maize Rage does with this!
Right now he is a 3 star to ESPN, Scout.
247sports has him at 88 which is basically a high 3 star.
Unranked by Rivals.
As mentioned above, has not been scouted much as he didn't participate in AAU which is when the big rankings changes happen.

Is there any info on what may be the reasoning behind him not playing AAU? Seems like he could definitely benifit from playing some higher level competition.
Doyle didn’t play AAU basketball this summer, opting instead to workout with his high school team and individually. That didn’t prevent college coaches from catching a glimpse of the talented big man, Doyle’s high school team played in two AAU tournaments in July and that was enough for coaches to take noticehttp://www.umhoops.com/2012/09/20/john-beilein-pursuing-2014-florida-bi…
