Edit: Northwestern loses to Minnesota in OT
Michigan will play the winner of this game tomorrow at 6:30 on BTN in the B1G quarterfinals. People seemed to be split on who they wanted Michigan to play, but most people were hoping for an OT game to help drain out both teams a little. Good game so far, if you can turn it on.
Edit: Tough luck for NW. Michigan vs 'Sota tomorrow at 6:30 on BTN.
I want them thoroughly tired for tomorrow.
torn with this game, I want to face Minny cause I think there an easier win, but I want Shurna and Northwestern to make the NCAA Tounrament for the first time ever. So go Northwestern Gophers I guess????
I could careless if they are drained are not....we should handle either one of these teams by at least 10. No reason not to beat the tar out of them. This tourny should come down to...Mich, Sparty, IU and ohio.
Maybe on paper, but NW is a team that presents big matchup problems for us, shown by our two OT games vs them. They also will be playing for a tourney bid, which you can't account for on paper.
handle them by 10 at least, we should in all accounts probably be 0-2 against Northwestern. We neeeded doudle digit comebacks both games, and then overtime both games also to win. We are the better team no doubt, But we aren't 10 points better ona neutral court game IMO. Nortwestern goes all small in their lineups and gives us fits.
It is Minny, I for one wanted to see a quadruple+ OT Game from these guys, I'll take any advantage I can get especially when earned by tying for 1st.
Go Blue, I don't think Minn is gonna be an easy out, they looked athletic to me.
I guess that's good; whoever we play will be pretty worn out when they take the court against us tomorrow.
Still though, go Gophers.
OT is certainly a good thing. NW only went 7 deep all game, those guys will certainly be feeling it a bit tomorrow.
Gophers or 2OT!!
Go double OT!
Part of me wants NW to win because of the LSJ stating that we'd lose and their bogus reasoning that NW outplayed us and are really the better team.
You can see it on faces in the crowd, about a panic attack per possession on average...
Man, Minnesota sucks. I hope we play them.
That shit is offensive, yo!
how do i nominate this exchange for the mgoblog hall of fame?
44 seconds left, Minnesota up 71-68, NW ball. Andre Hollins has been playing the game of his life, 25 points on 10-17 shooting.
Oops! NW turnover!
I feel for Northwestern. We've been there, agonizing over every late-season game, too often over the past decade.
like desert sand through their fingers. It was over before the final second ticked off; mentally they were through. What really sucks is if that one shot that hung on the rim for an eternity had went in, they might have won that game.
Awful unforced turnover by NW, that could by the dagger.
What happened to NW's D???
Did they ever have it?
So they never went to any OTs?
But I meant specifically that play, where they gave up a dunk.
I didn't know we were supposed to use ice skates in wrestling. Maybe I'd be better at wrestling if I started using skates, no?
NW missing so many crucial FTs.
They're done. Sucks for NW. Now lets take care of business tomorrow vs the Golden Gophers.
very surprised NW is about to lose this
I wanted them to get to the tourney... but good for us. Minnesota *should* be an easy win.
If not easy, then at least it should be easier than NW would have been...
But they couldn't defend OSU for the final 10 seconds at home and lost, then they lose to Minnesota in the first round. I hope they make tourney, but if they don't ... sorry about your damn luck.
suck it wilbon!
Ditto!!!!!!
Fell bad for NW players.
Feel joy in the thought of Michael Wilbon snivelling about NW blowing their chance at the tourney yet again.
Where was John Shurna down the stretch? He was invisible when they needed him most.
was thinking the same thing, but this has happened all year with shurna
Don't watch a lot of NU games, but he seemed to vanish for long stretches against us as well. Seem to remember their coach even bringing it up that he needs to be more active/involved.
Probably means he's a good guy in real life, just lacks that MJ/Kobe outlook that everyone is the enemy and it is his job to defeat them.
He missed two shots under the basket late and missed important ft's down the stretch.
Still likes NW. Being Lunardi's top team in his first four in, maybe that gives them a few spots to fall after the loss today (and time for other bubbles up there with them to fall off). Man, I passionately want them in the Tourney for some reason. Tough loss for Carmody & Co.
Hope to see a murder tomorrow evening against Minnesota.
Too bad for Northwestern but I would rather of played Minnesota and its a good thing the game went into overtime so they will probably be tired tomorrow. Michigan should take care of business to advance to the semifinals.
Don't overvalue the overtime aspect. Syracuse after playing in that six-overtime game a few years ago went out and won the next night, in overtime.
I don't feel sorry for Northwestern at all, 1-10 vs top 50, they've had plenty of chances throughout the year and never seem to turn the corner. Time to call a spade a spade, they aren't that good.
18 - 13 and 8 - 11 in the Big Ten is not good enough. I'd rather see Iona and Drexel in the tourney than mediocre undeserving teams from power conferences.
