According to Onward State, Joe Paterno has been taken off a respirator and his family has been summoned to his home:

The news is also available on their twitter feed.
There are other rumblings out there that Jay Paterno has cancelled a scheduled event for tonight to be with his ailing father.
Regardless of what you think of the man, let's keep Joe Paterno in our prayers.

both his own and his extnded PSU family. Not one of us is perfect, and he clearly made mistakes. His numerous good works and decades of doing a lot of what he did the right way should never be overlooked. If it's his time, I hope he is able to go with peace.

Very sad indeed. The things this man and his family have done for the community, the university, and college football are vast. I refuse to remember JoePa in a negative light regardless of what others say. I believe he was put in a no win situation and did what was best for his family.
JoePa is an icon and should be remembered as such. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Stopping child rape seems like a pretty big win for everyone but the rapist.

The content of your post and your username are a juxtaposition almost too good to believe.

A guy who enabled a child rapist to continue raping? The rush to eulogize the recently, famously deceased no matter how shit they were as people is bad enough, but in this case can we at least let him die before calling on the heavenly host to cast down a chariot for him to ride upwards and onwards in?

No matter how great person someone might be, if their one* mistake is allowing child rape, that's all that should be remembered about them. Others who might do the same need to know that they will ruin their entire legacy by turning a blind eye to such a heinous crime.

No prayers from this guy for that enabler.

People make egregious mistakes in life. I think Joe realizes that now. Even if he'd done the complete action (I hesitate to use right, because he did the right thing - just not the complete action) there is no guarentee that Penn State would have done the right thing (JoePa was extremely powerful, but we all saw how quickly the power was limited).
Anyhow, I will pray for someone and their family at a time like this, and let himself, God, and his family sort out his failures. More lives were improved because of Joe Paterno than ruined. And in the end, it's ultimately Jerry Sandusky that damanged these lives.
I'm sick of people saying they'd do better, they're better, this person is a loser because of x, y, and z. You simply do not know. Don't kid yourself either.

to yourself. The guy is scum. Sorry.

I find all the support for him in this thread disgusting. I, for one, will sleep peacefully when he is gone. Good riddance.

If Joe is the man he says he is... Let him deal with God on his own terms.

And I find the fact that people are taking the opportunity to dance and laugh at the foot of his deathbed to be disgusting, but that's just me.

I'm not dancing or laughing but i'm not going to sit here and act saddened or wish him well either. He allowed a pedophile to operate under his watch and that deserves a special place in hell.

You are a sick and pathetic man. Get a life. I'm sure when your time on this earth is done, you'll have done horrible things that will push you to the front of the line for hell. Only such a person would make such a statement.

A sick and pathetic man would let a child predator get away with it and do nothing about it. Joe is the pathetic one. If you think he isn't you are a fool.

Did many good things in his life, but the best thing he could have done he didn't do. Godspeed.
