Jordan Payton to Cal
I know it's been a foregone conclusion for a while, but according to TomVH, Jordan Payton has committed to Cal.

Whatever happened to Diggs ?
January 6th, 2012 at 2:32 PM ^
There was an in home visit scheduled with Diggs , but when the coaches showed he was at a visit elsewhere. Since then Michigan coaches have backed off and I haven't heard a word about him since.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:39 PM ^
Why is it that 90% of the guys who seem to be more trouble than they're worth are wide receivers?
January 6th, 2012 at 3:40 PM ^
Plain and simple.
January 6th, 2012 at 5:37 PM ^
it's pre-madonna, moran.
January 7th, 2012 at 11:20 PM ^
You're the moran it's Prima Donna
January 6th, 2012 at 3:09 PM ^
I knew that but haven't heard anything about him since
January 6th, 2012 at 3:25 PM ^
He's been KILLING the competition down in San Antonio for the Army AA Game.
January 6th, 2012 at 3:42 PM ^
I do believe that "visit elsewhere" was to Cal. For a football program which hasnt been to the rose bowl since the 1950s, Cal still recruits with the best of em.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
So much for good things come to those who wait....
I can't be mad at the kid lol I'm happy with the great rospects we have at WR. Best of luck to Payton at Cal
January 6th, 2012 at 2:33 PM ^
Congratulations to him and I hope he does well, but his recruitment has been a long and odd process it seems.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:33 PM ^
At the end, I think his family kept him home.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
That is all.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:39 PM ^
Yeh, this has been rumored for a while, with ND as a distant 2nd.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:41 PM ^
Cal's a great college, very much the Michigan of the West. But I simply don't understand why top football recruits choose that place. The program is mediocrity defined.
January 6th, 2012 at 4:26 PM ^
Cal is definitely a mediocre football team... I saw them play twice this year and their quarterback is very erratic. Though they do have Keenan Allen (I still wish we landed him) who is awesome.
On the plus side for them, they'll have a new stadium and Berkeley is a great school in a good location.
January 6th, 2012 at 5:43 PM ^
Many people on this site that have went to Cal said the campus and weathering are beautiful. It's a great degree and the coach seems like a good guy. Those things alone will sway many kids.
January 6th, 2012 at 8:22 PM ^
Tosh Lupoi, the wunderkind DL coach / Recruiting Coordinator at Cal, is a total animal on the road. He is the reason Tedford has pulled in all these guys from all corners of the country. He was also the coach who ordered his DL to fake injuries vs Oregon last year to slow down the Quack Attack. Before Lupoi, Cal's recuiting was local and regional at best.
January 7th, 2012 at 11:25 PM ^
Payton seems like a cool kid so good luck to him. Regarding Cal maybe I didn't see the right part, but the whole area seems dirty. What did I miss?
January 6th, 2012 at 2:42 PM ^
It was interesting when he was seemingly a lock for us, then all of a sudden he decided to change his tune. Hi svideo isn't all that impressive, so I'm kinda happy he decided to change his mind.
January 6th, 2012 at 3:08 PM ^
September visitors who wait until after Decemeber to announce usually result in bad news, no matter how blown away they were with their experience. If you don't get 'em soon after, you probably won't.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
At least he didn't go to ND. I feel confident in predicting that we won't be facing Cal in the Rose Bowl anytime soon. They couldn't even win the Pac-10 with Aaron Rodgers.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:44 PM ^
And to think I had a dream last night that he committed to Michigan... Poop.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
This is terrifying.
January 6th, 2012 at 4:47 PM ^
Yeah, maybe it was just a daydream. However, I realize that we aren't really looking for another receiver, and I didn't want him to join our class anyway. The result would be a pretty stupid daydream.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
buh :(
January 6th, 2012 at 2:52 PM ^
good that it isn't ND, but still an odd choice - they now have five WRs in their recruiting class.
January 6th, 2012 at 3:03 PM ^
Watched him play twice this year on tv and watched some of his highlight tapes and I must say he is not that impressive. This is not sour grapes, it is just how I feel. He has good hands and is big, but he doesnt have great speed and does not seen like he plays hard all the time.
January 6th, 2012 at 5:45 PM ^
You are not alone. Although lower rated, I think Chesson is better and has more upside.
January 6th, 2012 at 2:59 PM ^
Best of luck to him, and I think UM will be okay.
January 6th, 2012 at 3:05 PM ^
He seems to have deleted that tweet...
January 6th, 2012 at 3:07 PM ^
Tweets were premature from their hacked accounts. Shaq Thompson & Payton will announce at the AA game.
Doesn't change anything in regard to the fact that they are picking Cal, however.
January 7th, 2012 at 1:13 AM ^
I talked to Shaq's high school coach tonight. He told me USC blew it. He said USC had him until Shaq started inrtacting with the USC coaching staff. Apparently Kiffin's sliminess was very transparent and completely turned him away.
January 6th, 2012 at 3:13 PM ^
Payton is incidental. Michigan already locked up its two receivers. Payton was no longer on the table.
January 6th, 2012 at 3:28 PM ^
Good luck to him.
January 6th, 2012 at 4:03 PM ^
I don't know how they did it, but Cal got five of Rivals top 100 receivers:
#11 Bryce Treggs
#20 Jordan Payton
#41 Darius Powe
#69 Kenneth Walker
#76 Chris Harper
Nobody else has more than three.
January 6th, 2012 at 6:27 PM ^
Well I believe five WRs in one class is a lot even for a spread team, so I'm not impressed with their WR haul....
January 6th, 2012 at 6:08 PM ^
Foregone conclusion that he was staying out west. Best of luck to him.
January 6th, 2012 at 6:44 PM ^
Why the hell would Cal use up at least one-fifth of its class on receivers? And why would five top receivers agree to join the same program? It's baffling. Maybe this explains why Cal so consistently blows.
January 6th, 2012 at 7:01 PM ^
Now if only Gunner would switch to Cal....
January 6th, 2012 at 7:10 PM ^
cal always seems to be a black hole for talent, since it seems like that program never takes any significant step forward. but i guess this isn't surprising, given the fact that we've already signed darboh and chesson, but he certainly would be nice to have now in light of the stonum situation.
anyone know if we're in the running for some other receivers?
