D-measuring, Sparty style
"It is what folks are doing around the league and it's our turn to catch up," he said. "And what you like to do… is leapfrog the guy who just went before us."
Ianni was adamant that the upgrade is not in response to U-M, specifically.
"The only place we have a rivalry with Michigan is on the field," he said.

Michigan - dual football viewing
MSU - giant ad machine.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
I wonder what ads they'll run. Art Van Clearance Center?
December 14th, 2011 at 7:00 PM ^
....this would look awesome on MSU's scoreboard:
December 14th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
Somethibg more along the lines of Dog the bounty hunter.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:42 PM ^
Or Jersey Shore.
December 14th, 2011 at 6:08 PM ^
Because MSU grads have aspirations too.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
Remember, it's not length that matters, it's TMI.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
Little brother felt shortchanged in the scoreboard department.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:26 PM ^
If those proposals are put in place, they would be quite impressive
December 14th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
Size of scoreboard in stadium =
this important
Size of crowd in stadium =
THIS IMPORTANT
Seriously... scoreboards are cool and add to the gameday experience, but once they're big enough to be helpful and display visible replays, it doesn't matter. I don't think she's gonna care if your gentalia are 9 or 10 inches. In either case, you're not disappointing anyone.
December 14th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
You're actually probably hurting people at that point...
December 14th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
That comment+your sig line=priceless
December 14th, 2011 at 5:27 PM ^
Clearly a case of penis envy. Poor old Sparty.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:28 PM ^
Not even going to be close. For one thing, ours are in Ann Arbor. For another, there's will be part of an ugly concrete mess.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
Plus you have to watch Spartan football games on their boards all the time. Eww!
December 14th, 2011 at 5:34 PM ^
all MSU fans will spell it "there's".
U MAD?
December 14th, 2011 at 5:29 PM ^
You can't take that away from them.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:31 PM ^
who cares?
December 14th, 2011 at 6:58 PM ^
Blazefire on a roll here...
December 14th, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
There's a shitload of ninjas in that room.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
They can have their big scoreboard.
I'll take being part of "the largest crowd watching a football game anywhere in America today"
December 14th, 2011 at 5:36 PM ^
In a couple years, it'll enhance even more the experience of watching us beat them. With the direction they'll be heading, the team may suck but, "Hey, look at the scoreboard!"
December 15th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
i was thinking it's just a bigger target for Hoke to point at.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:38 PM ^
who gives a crap what the Spartans are doing?
December 14th, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
who the hell is this Ianni guy? Congrats to sparty who could only sell out a game when Michigan shows up.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:41 PM ^
Sparty and their envy just makes me...
December 14th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
He's not lying. We only have a rivalry on the field. Sparty can't compete off the field.
December 14th, 2011 at 6:20 PM ^
The second they begin to have off the field merit, a fierce rivalry will always have existed.
EDIT: Above statement is purely hypothetical
December 14th, 2011 at 5:43 PM ^
Didn't State just cut a bunch of undergrad programs recently? If there are any students there that care about academics--hahaha I couldn't even finish that thought.
December 14th, 2011 at 6:29 PM ^
...Including the country's first ever music therapy program, leaving, um, Western and Eastern. Sparty...oh, Sparty.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
Still won't be able to see it through the trash storm
December 14th, 2011 at 5:45 PM ^
This will be great. Everyone will be able to see the trash on the other side of the stadium even better! That's what has been missing all of these years . . .
December 14th, 2011 at 8:27 PM ^
At first I thought you were talking about paper cups and hot dog wrapper and such, but then realized you were referencing the fans.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:47 PM ^
Sounds like somebody needs a Swedish scoreboard pump
December 14th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
The rendering the article mentions is hilarious, in part because the scoreboard would be roughly the size of the entire southern portion of the stadium, but also because they chose to take images from Sparty playing against Texas Tech in the 2010 Alamo Bowl. You know, the same Alamo Bowl where TTU beat Sparty 41 - 31. But in this rendering...the score is 37-10. At home. Right.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
Sparty is such a dumbass. We have two screens that are huge. So if the dumbasses want to have one screen thats bigger than our ONE of our TWO video boards, then so be it. Their other screens are a mute point
December 14th, 2011 at 5:59 PM ^
Well they are upgrading the sound system too
December 14th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
Because we all know how awesome piped in music is...
December 14th, 2011 at 10:09 PM ^
If M's Special K has terrible taste in music, what the heck does Sparty's Special K play? Zlad?
December 14th, 2011 at 5:52 PM ^
But they still have a shit-hole stadium. This is like the guy who has a janky car with a super expensive sterao system. Or better yet, the guy who has the dirt ball apartment with a big screen TV. Sure, the TV is cool, except that no one wants to go to his place anyway.
December 14th, 2011 at 5:56 PM ^
Total Attendance 2011
Michigan 897,431
MSU 518,545
Little brother is going to have to do some growing to catch up.
One item that they do have that we don't is the infamous trash tornado, but you can't have everything.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:36 PM ^
X approx $75 a ticket = $28,500,000 or a lot of lost revenue
December 14th, 2011 at 6:10 PM ^
The real question is, are they bigger than Minnesota's? According to sparty logic, they are the true measuring stick of gameday experience.
December 14th, 2011 at 6:28 PM ^
Do you guys think they should use that money to take out seats in the stadium? That way they can actually fil it up.
December 14th, 2011 at 7:14 PM ^
^^^^This. +100 MGoPoints if I could.
December 14th, 2011 at 6:32 PM ^
December 14th, 2011 at 7:07 PM ^
I don't care in the least, but how hilarious would it be if the sides of our current scoreboards were covering up more screen, so just when someone else makes a bigger one we uncover them and say, "Whoops, try again!"
December 14th, 2011 at 7:53 PM ^
Lipstick on a pig. That is all
