OT - Snowing Like Crazy in the NE
This is crazy. The leaves are still green on the trees in York, PA and the snow is covering them quickly. From here to Boston they are expecting widespread power outages as the leaves grab snow and bring branches down.
Hopefully the power will stay on until at least 3:30 pm or so!
Stay safe everyone, and break out the hot chocolate and your copy of 3&Out I guess...

If you were in Ann Arbor today for the game, it wouldn't matter. It isn't snowing here.
Go Blue!

It's cold enough though

37 degrees just south of the airport. Could be a lot worse at this time of the year. At the very least, the sun is out and it is a pretty mid-autumn scene in the backyard.

It's still October. I don't remember it being this cold this early in a long time.

....when we had our first measurable snow in October, or at the very least, a dusting. I can also recall it being in the 20s for lows off and on during a few Octobers back in the day. To me, that's a lot worse. *puts "weather nerd" nameplate on forehead*

I'm home all day with the kids while my wife works a 14 hour shift at York hospital. I would trade anyone in Ann Arbor in a heartbeat.
Expecting 6-10" here.

I live in York, pa too. crazy right now

Not working a 14 hour shift. Expecting 6-10".

It was kinda raining hail at the end of the game

In the utility business, among your greatest fears are frozen precipitation in the mid to late autumn or in the early to mid spring, and it is for that very reason - the added surface area the leaves present for freezing. Some of the biggest storms we've had (in terms of number of people out of power) in Detroit Edison history have been during those timeframes.

The previous record for October in York, Pa was only 2.1" I read. Even 6" has to destroy the power grid I would think. :~(

It's 34 right now - if it stay above freezing, surface freezing might not be so bad, but you will still get some with wind chills being below freezing. Distribution systems are desgined to withstand a certain amount of ice - we probably overcompensate for it on newer builds in our system, but I don't know what eastern PA is like in that regard.

It started a little while ago and is just starting to stick. The game should be interesting with JoPa vs the Zooker in bad weather...Hopefully the power stays on and I dont have to go scalp tickets to get my Saturday fix.

If you have a laptop, keep it charged all day so you can have ESPN3 as a backup

I think you need another plan, since most devices that bring Internet to the laptop also require electricity to work...

I live outside Rochester and would like to find some Wolverine fanatics like myself to catch a couple games with. Seriously seems like MSU has a larger following in these parts. Barf!!!!

Drove 80W yesterday, from Delaware Gap to Sharon, PA, entire drive was panoramic, leaves were beautiful... Glad to put NYC in the rear view for a weekend.

At least 3 inches in western VA so far. Not quite the NE. I'll take snow over freezing rain any day, but this is crazy.

The game is OVAH!
Kept power except for 2 min at halftime.
Crabapple tree in my front yard split into 4 pieces down the trunk like a peeled banana but luckily missed my car by inches.
Sparty down. Good stuff.

Here in Williamsport we are getting quite a bit. I'm way behind on my fall chores and am trying to winterize the pool today.
