No. Not to my biased self. I think we are one of the 32 best teams in the country. Guess we didn't have to beat the Illini to get in
Blue vs Steve Fisher and his aztecs.
too soon?
I like being in the second announced region this year... much more relaxing than 2 years ago, but an 8 seed? Wow.
8 seed shocked me. But call me crazy, but I really, really like our draw. Other than Duke, none of that region is playing that great right now and we can match up well with Duke.
Duke played in the ACC tourney, I'm concerned. Positive but concerned.
I need some of this kool-aid man. I'm optimistic about Tennessee, but Duke is really frickin good
Somebody not named Michigan is going to get boned hard at the end of this....Gonna be a controversial tourney selection if you ask me..... HTF is Georgia a 10 seed? and Penn State got the draw I was hoping for.....
fingers crossed its state..
I knew we were in. But how the hell are we an 8??? No complaining, but....how the hell are we an 8.
Basic eyeball test, Tennessee has a lot of similarities with Sparty. Have to look at it much closer but certainly a winnable game. Ugly Second Round game against Duke after though...
Oakland U beat Tennessee we whupped Oakland sooo...
Not loving win-than-play-one-seed (would've loved to have SDSU sooner in the bracket) but we don't have an easy first round game. We have our work cut out for us especially playing against Tennessee in SEC country.
I really want to beat Bruce Pearl.
8 seed is not too high based on the surprising respect they are giving the Big Ten. If Penn State is a 10, 8 sounds about right for us.
Go Blue all the way
(Nashville means Vandy fan and UT hate)
We made it all the way up to an 8 seed. I did not expect that we would actually be a higher seed than our first round opponent.
Bad News: If we win on Friday, we get to play Duke in Charlotte NC.
I would much rather have, for example, Penn State's 10 seed against Temple and then SDSU. So far, I would rather have any of the 10 seeds than our #8.
Be careful what you ask for.
I would much rather have the 7 or 6 seed we would have gotten, had Wisconsin not banked in that lucky ass shot.
I think most of us knew the potential benefits of being an 11 seed and were all for it. But this is better than waiting for the NIT draw to come out.
like a Top 32.
Maybe the committee places much more weight on resume for the in vs out decision (they damn well better, it's only fair), but then adds more weight to the recent play/eye test for the seeding.
I was expecting us to beat tOSU yesterday. A 9-seed opponent? We can handle that.
I don't want to let my grad school biases speak here...but Penn State is going to get absoloutely destroyed by Temple. Double Raback that...absolutely destroyed.
Temple VengeanceFest for almost-but-not-quite upsetting PSU in football? Sounds good to me.
...owes me money.
8? I am shocked.
I thought they'd be a 9, but only in a season like this. I'd so much rather be a 10-seed and have the draw Penn State got. Temple and hypothetical 2nd round vs San Diego State instead of Tennessee and hypothetical 2nd round vs Duke in Charlotte.
Initial thoughts is the committee did a poor job. That is to be expected with Gene Smith leading the way.
Duke is the most favorable 1 seed we could draw so I'm OK with it. Just can't look past Tennessee.
I'd rather look forward to a super weak #2 seed in Florida and swap out #8 seed for the Spartan special. Happy to be in the tourney...dreading hearing how Tom Izzo is a genius for his tourney performance.
I think the committee must have placed a lot of weight on the close losses to Kansas and OSU. That's the only way we should be an 8 seed, IMO.
the season sweep of two 10 seeds, and 1-1 against a 9 seed.
and a materially harder draw than PSU and MSU as a result.
Agreed. Sparty should salivating at UCLA and a very overrated Florida.
Does nobody recognize how good Temple is...I admit I'm biased here but you cannot be serious that Penn State got a favorable draw. I'd have Michigan play Tennessee long before Temple.
Fear the Owl.Stop whining, everyone. We're an 8 seed, now let's go kick some butt and win some games.
i cant believe USC got in but they left out Colorado and Va Tech. isn't this the 30th straight year virginia tech has fallen on the wrong side of the bubble?
georgetown x michigan championship game is possible. just sayin.
NCAA tourny selection...how does Alabama not get in and gerogia as 10th seed? us at eighth, i was hoping for 10/11. This might actaully hurt us i dont like how we match with the tenn, they got a big team and harris can ball....
I was hoping that we'd get a 10 or 11 seed against an ok team and be able to play a BYU type team in the 2nd round.
I don't feel terrible that Alabama won't be there with their "rabid fanbase"
I think the committee put us in a spot to face Duke in second round based on the high potential for Michigan to beat a 1 seed. I mean, were due...
tOSU down to the last minute/last 5 minutes/last 9 minutes would get us into the tourney, but not as the front line for TV ratings into a Duke as a likely competitive game.
Like many, I would have preferred an 11/12 (bye)-seed and a much better shot at the Sweet 16.
Just got back from the viewing party at Crisler. Two things of note: during his speech, JB made gentle fun of not letting assistant coach Bacari Alexander talk because otherwise he wouldn't be done until past midnight. He said to check out JohnBeilein.com in a bit for some amusing pre-game speeches from the assistants.
Also, one of the CBS women told the crowd that she needs us to "start cheering directly after this commercial" wink wink, and then we were announced.
Like the ovation for Duke.
For the most part it was boo's when Duke got announced as a #1 towards the beginning of the show.
in the pre-commercial replay of local bliss. (Thanks to those of you in the neighborhood for making such a good showing on TV for those of us far away.)
I was surprised over being an 8 seed too. I like the matchup with Tennessee. Duke is scary good. Not fond of our region. MSU lucked out with a pretty weak one.
for the program. Michigan BB getting some respect with a young, on the rise team.
What time is the game on Friday?
so maybe in an hour or two?
Honestly, if we can get past Tennessee (which I would expect -- they are prone to turnovers etc), I would rather face Duke than SDSU. SDSU is incredibly athletic. We beat a Duke team two years ago that was better than this one, and I would argue that this year's team is better than the one with Manny et al two years ago. We've stuck with top teams all year and we're totally capable of beating a #1 seed. If anything, a #8 seeding should give them confidence that the committee thought of them so highly.
MSU might've lucked out with their draw, but I honestly wouldn't expect them to get far in the tournament anyhow.
