This matters when we actually get a recruit they want from there.  This thread is going to look bad when Gary is at Auburn and Peoples-Jones is at Bama.

Saban and other SEC teams generally get the recruits they want when they go head-to-head with nothern schools.  Sure Michigan and other schools "up north" win battles with SEC teams all the time.  But I'd bet its in the 1 out of 10 to 1 out of 20 range.  Which, to me, is slim odds.

I hope Dytarious Johnson, Kingston Davis, and Keith Washington read that comment and use that as fuel during their time at Michigan. I hope they show Malzahan that just because Bama or Auburn didn't offer them doesn't mean they can't play just as good, if not better than their players. I hope they can rub this comment into Malzahan's smug little face.

Just because someone is visiting doesn't mean their likely to commit but I like what Jim has done. We've moved from the not visiting to visiting stage on the pecking order. More satellite camps and winning should start to reel in southern big fish eventually.

I'm sure a few recruits will go to major Northern schools. After all, Saban got Ingram, didn't he? And some kids still like to be different, sit they? But in general I don't think Northern schools will get a lot of blue Deep South recruits.

He's mostly correct, I don't see the big deal. We have to start winning for us to get the BIG TIME recruits North. Doesn't mean we shouldn't still offer or won't get a couple lower ranked guys for now.

If one of those guys actually flipped it would be more interesting.  For now he's just making a prediction.  Perhaps a bit of hyperbole in there in the "slim to none" statement, but it seems more or less correct to me -- the majority of elite souther recruits are going to stick to the powerhouse southern schools.  The satellite camps don't change that.

Michigan will win some head to head battles with Alabama/Auburn for southern kids, and they'd do that with or without camps, but they'll lose most of them, with or without the camps.

As smart as Malzahn is as an offensive mind (and there are really none sharper), he seems to be a very stupid human being and a bit of an ass.

Either Gus hasn't been playing attention to OSU's recruiting or there's a good amount of 4 and 5 stars from the South that didn't interest Auburn and Alabama.

The upshot of it seems to be that Gus - like his SEC colleagues - wants as many "alternatives" as possible. That's OK, of course, for I am sure that there was no one at the Prattville camp that Malzahn typically would seek out....pretty sure....I mean, no one saw Malzahn hiding out in the shrubs, or at least no one reported seeing him. I wasn't there, so I don't know if anyone swept the surrounding woods or searched any multi-story buildings which would provide him with a view.

Maybe UM should schedule a home and home with Auburn. Stop all of the talk and settle it on the field.

Or better yet, since we'd have to wait 50 years for that to happen....hopefully these teams meet in a bowl game soon.

Neither Auburn or Alabam were interested in Rackwon McMillan out of Georgia?  According to Rivals the #1 inside LB recruit in the 2014 class?

Neither Auburn or Alabama were interested in Vonn Bell?  5* DB out of Georgia in the 2013 class who Rivals ranked as the #4 safety in the country.

Neither Auburn or Alabama wanted Joey Bosa?  4* defensive end from Florida who Rivals ranked as the #4 defensive end in the 2013 class.

Neither Auburn or Alabama wanted Michael Hill?  4* defensive tackle  who rivals rated as the #1 recruit in South Carolina and the 10th best defensive tackle in the country in the 2013 class.

At least according to rivals all these guys show offers from Alabama and Auburn, and in Bell's case he visited Alabama, but all went to OSU.

I should have been clearer; I assumed he was referring to UM with that comment.  Of course OSU has gotten a couple of kids Alabama and Auburn wanted.  Hell, USC I think got a WR a year ago who seemed like an Alabama lock, and that's a hell of a lot farther.

of course Gus knows Alabama or Auburn are gong to get the local kids they want, because the local kids understand that there will be extra benefits to them and family if they go with Bama or Aub (which is effectively "Alabama Tech").

just like Cam Newton selected Auburn because they were one of the few that did NOT meet his $100,000 price tag.....the one his dad was negotiating "without Cam's knowledge".

Dashaun Hand dumping UM as soon as Bama showed serious interest. Before any superstar recruits seriously choose UM over the OSU's or Bama's of the world it is going to require UM to actually win games during the season. Not talk a bunch of shit they cannot back up during the off season. OSU, Auburn, Bama, have more 4 star recruits than UM has 3 star. And UM is fucking team of 3 star kids. The proof is in the pudding. Kids want to play for winners, not losers who wish they were winners. Actual, ring wearing, trophy carrying, White House visiting winners. Not UM
