Neill Ostrout has UCF at 4 and UM at 5 - which at least makes a little sense since all four undefeated would be first in a reward based ranking (if that's what he's going for here).

I'm saying that, if that voter was approaching the poll such that undefeateds do not drop (reward them for their record alone) it makes some sense at least.  If a voter was approaching the poll as a predictive tool (judging which team is actually better), then it would not make sense.  I am not saying that UCF is a better team than UM.  I bring this up in contrast to putting OSU above UGA, OU, and UM... which has no obvious justification that I can see.

I will credit them for this win streak that they’re on, but they’d get absolutely obliterated by anyone in the top 4.

They don’t deserve to even sniff the playoff. At least not until the field expands to six or eight teams, or they schedule some really good P5 teams for OOC, beat them, and then obliterate the rest of their schedule.

OSU at 4 is pathetic. Guy should not be allowed to vote for such stupidity. Even most OSU fans don’t think they are top-5.

The fact that the playoff rankings are not announced until past halfway through the season makes the AP and coaches’ polls useless. They are there simply for discussion and tv ratings. A casual football fan will likely not care about Washington State vs. LSU, for example...but oh, they put a pretty number by both teams and suddenly people are more interested.

True you are correct about discussion and TV ratings, but both those polls also (unfortunately) have a huge influence on how good teams' wins and how bad teams' losses are perceived to be. For instance, look at all the love LSU got for beating Miami and OSU got for beating TCU and Texas for beating USC. The initial playoff rankings would probably look a lot different without those two polls.

Pretty sure a 1 loss Michigan is rated above an undefeated ND three weeks from now.  ND has one quality win (Michigan), while Michigan will have 5 or 6.

Just win the damn games.

After studying that list my takeaway is:

Amongst the "affiliations" Michigan is represented with 1/2 an affiliation while -

tPOSu has 2.5

LSU 3

UF, Bama, Notre Shame, Wake Forest - all with 2.

UM is tied for last amongst affiliations on the list of voters at .5  and 45 schools with more representation.

I respectfully disagree with the notion that UGA over UM is "understandable." Georgia got pummeled by LSU who has two losses while UM lost by seven to an undefeated Notre Dame squad.

UM is better than UGA and deserves to be ranked ahead of them.

I say "understandable" since you could construct some reasonable arguements for putting either ahead of the other (as opposed to some of the other rankings the voters have, which can be mind boggling at times).  I personally would put UM over UGA just now, but it's all academic right now anyway.
