Thoughts on first year of Jordan/Nike gear?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Well, since the season is over, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the gear after one year.

The uniforms? The fan gear? What is your favorite? The shoes? Was it everything you expected it to be?

You know my thoughts.

I've bought none of it, but received a thin-M hat as a gift. That's all I've got. For the most part, I find the merchandise ugly and incredibly overpriced (even for brand-name sports gear). I don't buy jerseys anymore, but if I did, probably wouldn't buy any of it aside from the script maize hockey sweater (which looks great, but is not worth the $125 price tag).

The uniforms are fine, aside from some weird cuts and too-small M's on the basketball stuff.

Ultimately, this stuff moved the needle pretty minimally for me. Way better than Adidas, but it doesn't mean I'm going to buy any of it when I could buy much better looking Champion M sweatshirts, tees, or shorts for a third of the price.

Yep, still have a Nike long sleeved T and sweatshirt from the last Nike term that fit great. Bought a new long sleeved Tee and it fits like shit. Tight in the arms and loose in the neck. Pretty much like the other Nike things I've bought over the past few years which has been little. It's weird. Apparently there are lots of people with huge necks and tiny arms. I'll prob try on a few things for my trip next year. It was too busy for the WI game this year. Edit. I loved the shit out of the Football unis and gear though. That matters way more to me than WD's clothing fetish.

Yeah, I get that. At the very least, it's way better than anything else Adidas or Nike have done with purchasable hockey gear in the past few years. But yeah, the collar is goofy/incorrect and it looks way cheaper and less impressive than the old dazzle fabric from the 90s. If I were to find a cheap one from back then (and I do check eBay every now and then for that very reason), I'd buy it.

If I didn't already have a perfectly great, heavy blue Nike jersey from the early 2000s and was looking to buy one, this is probably the best option off-the-rack, though.

Only thing I bought was the annual t-shirt. Loved the new design, but my eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw it was $26 and thinner than 1-ply TP. That is very nearly double what the Adidas season shirts were, IIRC. I vaguely recall paying about $50 for three shirts (one for me, my dad, and my older son) in the Adidas days, but this year it was close to $90. And, to salt the wound, the quality was actually worse (which I wouldn't have thought was possible)!

So, at least for the annual shirts, it was an absolutely terrible, terrible POS t-shirt (with a nice design) for nearly $30 after tax. Which is bad, and frankly had me feeling like the University/Nike was ripping off the fans. For the first time, I was actually embarrased to send my dad such an utterly crappy piece of clothing.

The uniforms are fine, though I didn't really have a problem with most of the Adidas uniforms either (except for the "uniformz" versions for FB, and most of the BB unis were horrendous).

The shoes . . . I'm tempted to call them ugly, but I'll just leave it at: not my style.

Disappointed with my White/Jordan Polo. Pleased with my blue/Swoosh Polo. This is based on sizing and price. Jordan was ~$80 and a bit snug. Nike was ~ $60 and fit great. Interesting the Jordan brand has different sizing than the normal Nike stuff.

Nike golf apparel and Tiger Woods Nike golf apparel have a similar dynamic. Both technically produced by Nike, but they fit different and have different features.

It makes sense, really. Why would Jordan or Tiger have their own brands under Nike if all the gear fit/looked exactly like the Nike equivalent? They have to justify the price tag, and that's usually with different sizing/fitting, different fabrics and better (alleged) performance advantages.

I wish they did more shoe releases to the public. The gear was great rom this fan's perspective. MDen is busy every day now.

I thought they did a FANTASTIC job with everything. I love the new football uniforms, helmets, etc.

I love basketball as well (except I hate the logo placement on the shorts).

But the roll-out, the quality, everything was lightyears ahead of where we were.

In the words of our favorite head coach? "A++"

There were no instances of "what were you thinking?!????!" this year in football. That made me happy. I'm a simple man. I like my team's uniforms simple, consistent, and not ripping every time their grabbed.

A+. I think the team uniforms are much improved. I was a little wary of Jumpman at first for football but I ended up liking it a lot.

But, probably more importantly, on a consumer level, the Dri-fit stuff is tremendous. The more conservative, traditional look to t-shirts, etc. that Nike provides is a much welcomed change from the louder, more abrasive Adidas style.

  • It adequately prevented any unintentional nudism.
  • Loved the football uniforms
  • Basketball uniforms are pretty good - but when I think back at how horrible they were last year, the improvement is astounding.
  • The gear I bought was as expensive as I expected, however the quality was even nicer than I was expecting.

= very pleased

Of Nike and Jumpman gear this year (mostly gifts). I gotta say that it's good quality, but I do take issue against the basketball shorts. Not as comfortable as I thought Jumpman gear would be provided their first and foremost a basketball clothing line/brand.

On a side note, I love the Valiant line. Great quality, but for a much better price than Nike/Jumpman. Never been disappointed with the "V" gear.

Purchased the white bb shorts, very comfortable. Side note: wondering if they are going to offer retro shoes for players. Noticed coaches and GAs wear retros on the sidelines

I bought one Nike t-shirt and I'm happy with the quality/fit. The football uniforms looked great. Basketball uniforms are okay. Not a fan of the shiny numbers, but I can live with it.

I give Nike/Jordan 9/10.

Football uniforms are good, basketball unis kind of suck.  Most of the gear is overpriced but the half zip I got is nice.

Wish there was a wolverbear hat.

Bring back yellow pants on the road. Also, I'd like shoulder stipes on the away jerseys like the Lions do, except with maize and blue. This would be similar to the late 80s.

Coach Harbaugh's look. Absolutely no complaints, home or away. Helmets were badass.

The basketball uniforms are horrendous, however if the team was playing better maybe they'd look a little better. I'd love to see some sort of "product profile" video where the designers explain the logic of some of their design decisions, such as ... everything? Definitely not what I was expecting, was hoping for a new twist on the Fab Five look, not George Mikan '17.

I grabbed some of the gear and it ran pretty small. If I got a size bigger, the t-shirts were pretty good. I also like the vapor hat. The treatments of the different wordmarks we just so-so/ho-hum, basically all the Nike schools AND the NFL teams have the same-looking stuff. The items that were uniquely Jordan were kind of an odd mix of styles and some looked kind of cheap.

So, football team A+, basketball D-, fan gear C-.
