I can't remember the question, but I once answered Curly, Moe, and Larry on an American History test in college. The prof wrote "who's the stooge?" on my exam. I never would have guessed he had a sense of humor.

That's my understanding, from other articles. I heard a pro hockey player talking about how the Player's Tribune worked with him to craft an article. Still, their articles are the best because they're more direct-from-the-player than all the other sports stories that are always through the prism of the reporter.

It sounds like Moe is having a great college experience. Makes me think the NBA will have to wait a bit for him, and that's good for us and for him.

Kinda, but not really. Typically, the player (contributor) will work with an editor to help them craft and tell their story in the way they wish to.

Two years ago, the MSBC had one of the directors from the Players Tribune come in and talk about how the whole process works. I'm not sure if the interview/video is online, but it was pretty cool to hear about.

Was literally about the post the same article, but I learned from past users to check the board before I posted. Great perspective and insight from Moe. Well worth the read if you have the time.

accounts than the articles that pass as sports journalism in most outlets.   If you have time, definitely click the link and read this one before the game today.   It will give you a unique perspective of our team's attitide entering the game/tourney.

"It turns out you can’t simply call an Uber after your plane crashes." Well, thanks. This is good to know. In all seriousness, while I was reading this, I realized what it was: It was a valentine. To his teammates, his coaches, the school, the city, the restaurants, the lifestyle, the decision he made to attend UM, ... and most of all, to life (which got a little shaky there in the plane for a few minutes.) It's nice to be able to appreciate wisdom, especially in one so young. Well said, Mr. Wagner.

Great article. Sometimes I can get lost in the sports and forget what it was like to be a kid at school. It's great to see that being reflected as not only important to him, but also that he loves the University so much.

Also, he mentions Benny's in the piece...we were waiting for a table one Sunday morning last year and it was really busy in there. My wife (maybe 5'3) quickly turned around and walked directly into Moe's stomach. Like face-into-stomach.

She was obviously startled and looked directly up at Moe, who was laughing (as was I). She said "excuse me" (emabarassed) and he replied with something like "People don't usually miss me!"

Anyway, Cool Story Bro...Moe's a funny guy and every bit of 6'10.

"Call us a Cinderalla if you don't really understand what the term "Cinderella" means (like, at all). And call us "white collar" at your own risk.

But don't call us a surprise."

That was a great read!!  Just has me even more pumped for tonight's game and hopefully the deep run to follow.  Couldn't possibly be any more proud to be a Wolverine fan right now!

I won't comment at length. Nor will I investigate further. But it is obvious from already published articles that Beilein, Walton, Irvin, Wilson, and Xavier have a strong faith that sustains them and that shapes this team significantly. There probably are others on the team as well, but that is their business and not mine.

There are several reasons to bring it up.
  1. It is important to Beilein, to Jeff Meyers, and to a number of kids on the team. They have not been in your face about it, (a la Tebow), but they haven't hidden it either.
  2. It was noteworthy enough that Wagner wrote about it.
  3. It undoubtedly shapes the team, and who they are, and how they relate to each other.
  4. When you want to gain a deeper understand of something, you need to ask more than the obvious on the surface questions. You being in academe would understand that.
  5. It is something that is of interest to some portion of mgoreaders.

If so, the improvement is incredible.  He gave a great interview to Tracy Wolfson after the Louisville game on Sunday.  You can really tell when non-native speakers have mastered a language when their sense of humor comes through as clearly as his does.

I believe he was fairly fluent overall coming over. I had a class with him second semester last year and he had no problems communicating at all, IMO. Only issues wtih colloquialisms/some slang and whatever that would be difficult to know if you didn't grow up in America.  I believe  that European countries all teach English from a young age and take it a little more seriously than our system does Spanish.

"(sometimes I think maybe Coach Harbaugh and I are kindred spirits)"...I have to admit that I see flashes of Harbaughesque enthusiasm while Moe is on the floor. Very good article. Thanks OP!
