OT: Tebow released by the Jets [Locked]

Submitted by Leaders And Best on

Commence ESPN Tebow Mania with round the clock coverage.

Mod edit: Locked the thread because the discussion went way off course. Partially my fault for not being here in real time, but there's no reason a discussion about a football player on a sports site needs to turn into a discussion of his personal life when it's something against the sites rules. I'm glad there's a place I can go to hear about Tim Tebow and the Jets.  I'm just a little disappointed that we don't get enough Kobe and Tiger coverage on Mgoblog.

like the excessive media coverage of Tim Tebow, but I find it hard not to like the actual human being that is Tim Tebow.  Can't blame him for the hard-on that ESPN and the rest of America has for him.

I personally hope that he finds a way to have a long and successful NFL career.  He is a heck of a role model, and I would rather root for him than a lot of the other dudes populating current NFL rosters.

Tim Tebow is like our Denard Robinson. Not in terms of attributes and size comparison or skill comparison, but in respect to the fact that theyre both great guys, both seem to work their asses off, they were both outstanding in college, but just can't throw a damn football for whatever reason. They are both wonderful guys for a team that are tremendously skilled athletes and great football players. Both CAN bring alot to the feild for their respected teams, they just need to be used right. So far, Tebow has not been used right and it's just making him look bad. The question is, will Denard serve the same fate? Because if so, he will certainly be given way less chances than Tebow will be.

I think televangelists are 2 bit hacks. There are plenty of good Christians out there. I'm a lapsed catholic, and while not perfect in my view, i commend the new pope on his stances of talking about uplifting the poor in third world nations as opposed to the Hard on the euro centric church has for abortion as if its the only problem in the world (hey maybe abortion wouldnt seem like a viable option if these people could feed themselves or had access and knowledge to contraceptives). Tebow seems destined for the 'you can be saved for a donation of 29.99' mega church crowd. Your analogy is awful.

Christians aren't evil. But you might keep in mind that those of us who aren't Christian are a little turned off by your insistence that we either A. become Christian or B. at least live according to your rules. I understand that our unwillingness to live as you tell us to live somehow becomes persecution of Christians. We're sorry.

Tebow hasn't been used right because he's too stubborn to switch positions and give himself the best chance to succeed. That's all on him, not his coaches. Denard would play defensive tackle if that was what was asked of him.

Both are good guys, but Denard is willing to do whatever it takes to play in the NFL. Tebow is willing to do whatever it takes to remain a QB in the NFL, and that's why he's struggling. No coach in their right mind wants Tebow as their QB.

Tebow DID win a playoff game against a QB that has won 2 superbowls. He was at least GOOD ENOUGH to get them to the playoffs and win a solid playoff game. It wasn't pretty but he did show signs that he has what it takes to lead a team. Now I know, they got trampled by NE the next game, which shows that Tebow has many strides yet to overcome, but he obviously has alot of what it takes, he just needs developed more. I just feel like they are giving up on him way too early.

Tim's problem is that he's just not very good at playing QB. I read that during last season he told Ryan that he was tired of "gimmicky" offenses and wanted to be a traditional NFL QB ... but i'm pretty sure that requires being able to pass effectively and with regularity.

However, the Jets' decision to not play him last year might have also been due to playing time related bonuses in his contract. Unless he was good enough to be the QB, it was likely not worth it to the Jets to play him.

I would love for my Rams to pick him up. He can play QB in my goal to go situations. No team kicks more FG that St. Louis..( I have zero facts on this, just my miserable observations.). But first and goal from the 3... No Steven Jackson. Why not let him read option and see what happens.

The Rams don't have the offense to score in those situations like other teams and even with a great draft are a year or two away from that.

Bradford is the QB no question, and if Fisher made it clear he's a backup QB and only will see the field in those situations or injury, we could turn 3 into 7.

Just think if the Denver Broncos weren't idiots? What if Tebow was drafted when he should of been? I'm guess probably 3-5 round instead of the first? None of this would be happening... Tebowmania would have tempered had he not been drafted at a spot expected to be a franchise an. If he would have been drafted at the position of a backup qb like he should have, none of this would be.

He'll play again, but unless everyone in the world is missing something he'll be a situational player at best.  He's just not accurate enough in the NFL, and no amount of media blessing and PR spin will change that.  I definitely still see a place for him in the NFL, but anyone thinking he is a future starter outside of injuries is going to be surprised.
