OT - Reddit CFB Risk Update 5/24 - Ann Arbor is Liberated

Submitted by BlueSCar on

Last night was a another great night for us as we continued our push into the midwest and back up into the motherland.  Somewhat unexpectedly, we were able to reclaim AA and drive Chaos from the region.  We are in a great spot now with our foothold in the northeast secure and flanked to the south by our ally Clemson.  Those buckeyes, meanwhile, fled away from us to the south like the true scoundrels they are.  Long story short, they scurred.

Announcements:

The "Blue Alliance" has been re-dubbed the "Allied Forces" and now consists of Michigan, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida, and Texas.  Please refrain from attacking any territories controlled by our allies.

If you are a relatively new reddit user, please check the game page to ensure that you are not being flagged as a bot. If you are flagged you will see a text box like the one below. If you are flagged as a bot, your turns will not assist our chances to win (although you can still accumulate turns so you can level up stars). If you see this box, then follow the hyperlink to fill out the survey, but ALSO message /u/bakonydraco directly on reddit to get the issue sorted out.

Instructions to Join:

To join all you need to do is go to reddit.com/r/cfb and create an account if you don't already have one. Next, set your flair to Michigan. You can do this by clicking "Select Flair" on the right side of the cfb subreddit. Finally, you can join and play the game at https://vote.redditcfb.com/cfbrisk.php

If you want to discuss the game in deeper detail and strategize with us, you can join our discord server found here: https://discord.gg/TcZBTcj. We usually announce plans of what we want to attack/defend in the evenings, but we discuss strategy all day. Be warned though, there will be a vetting process to join the discord as we have had some mole issues from OSU. Even if you don’t pass the vetting process, we can still provide less-secret instructions in the general chat so that you can still help us towards our goals until we can fully 100% trust you.

Go Blue!

Instructions as to how to play:

At the beginning of the game. Every team was assigned one single territory, and so every territory is now named after that team. When you go to select an action in the game, you'll see option such as:

"Defend Buffalo", "Attack Penn State", "Attack Kent State".

This means that we border the location that was originally assigned to Penn State and Kent State. If you choose to attack Penn State, you will attempt to take that piece of land next round. Defend Buffalo, means that we currently own Buffalo's original homeland, and defending Buffalo means putting your stars towards keeping Buffalo from being taken.

After you submit what you're doing for the day, just sit back at wait! At Midnight EST all of the picks from all of the teams go in, and a random number generator selects a winner for each territory. Then it all happens again tomorrow.

I have no ideas how the rules of this "risk" game work, whether reinforcement is relevant or any of that, but:

Man, if Clemson turns on Michigan, that's trouble, because that territory is stretched out with a massive front, and the territory can be split in two very easily. No clue if that matters in the rules of this particular game, but it would worry me otherwise.

Not really. Clemson can hit 5 territories of ours. 3 of those we'll be defending fairly heavily since OSU/VT can already hit them. They only have 1/5 the user base of us and 4 of their 6 territories we can hit. If they try to attack us, they'll probably take 2/3 territories at best. They are then kicked out of the alliance and us/GT end them within a few turns. Them attacking us spells death for them.

Clemson has followed our order to a T thus far. We basically run their strategy for them and have 4x the army that they have. There is very little risk in allowing Clemson to stick around right now. it protects us from another side and they may help us a little in attacking our enemies. If they ever went against us they would not be able to get very deep and we would immediately swuash them the next turn.

1/5 of the Star Power we have (Star Power equals Army size).  It would behoove Clemson to keep working with us.

It is akin to Canada (Clemson) and US (Michigan).  Do you really think Canada would attack USA?  Clemson allied with us to hang in the game.  We love that as the buffer some of our territories for us.....

So can I say I'm kinda upset we can order Calvary and Cannons around. I give this game 2 stars.

That being said, I helped succesffuly repel a Buckeye force against Columbus and am hoooooked at laughing at them running south so yeah sign me up for three more months of this yes please.

Whenever I go to the CFB Risk site, I hit an authentication page asking me if it's OK for CFB to access my Reddit account. Clicking Allow takes me past that screen, to a blank white screen. From there, I can access the site if I go back and click the link to launch again. But is there a way to suppress that confirmation page? Or to make it remember my choice?

I'm concerned about Clemson on our flank. I know we're allies, but the further west we push, the more open to a backstabbing we become. Eventually, it's going to be in their best interest to push into either the northeast or southeast.

Just wanted to let you all know that we've implemented an enhancement to the website based on peoples' feedback that it was hard to figure out what action to take without always knowing what all of the logos looked like.  Starting now, you should be able to go to the site and it will now render the relevant logo.  Hopefully this makes things easier for people.

I know this probably gets answered every day, but how do I get Karma points in Reddit? I have 5 stars for my links and 3 stars for playing my 12 turns, but am stuck as a 1 star aggregate until I can move up my Karma or my Awards. Ohwhataworldwhata is my username on both Reddit and Discord. Thanks, in advance, for your help!
