OT: NFL All-Rookie Team; lot of Big Ten reps, none from Michigan :(
Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie team was announced this morning. Full list is at the link:
http://www.profootballwriters.org/2017/01/17/cowboys-elliott-pfwa-rooki…
As mentioned below, Zeke Elliott won NFL RoY and ORoY awards, while Joey Bosa won DRoY.
The Big Ten was otherwise well-represented with 7 players total, although none of the players are Michigan alums.
RB: Zeke Elliott and Jordan Howard (IU)
WR: Michael Thomes (osu)
OT: Jack Conklin (msu), Taylor Decker (osu)
DL: Bosa, Yannick Ngakoue (Maryland)
This basically confirms that osu was fielding the better part of an NFL team in 2015.

were Willie Henry, Graham Glasgow, and Jake Rudock. A couple other UDFA's. I could be forgetting someone though. I'm not sure how Henry played, but Glasgow got spot time until later and played well.

Personally, I'm very surprised Joe Kerridge didn't get some postseason honors. What a crock!
January 18th, 2017 at 1:41 PM ^
Has more playoff wins than all the B1G All-NFL Rookies combined.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:05 AM ^
I don't think Willie got much if any time, which comes as a surprise. I would have guessed he'd be a pretty good pro from the start.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
I believe Willie played in the four pre-season games, but didn't get on the field at all in 2016

Are we surprised after only 3 Michigan players were drafted? Heck, OSU had more players go in the upper half of the first round than Michigan had in the whole draft. I think you could make an argument for Glasgow being the C or OG, but this feels about right.
I'm still frosted about Zeke Elliot and Derrick Green. Both were 5 stars considered to be comparable talents. One turns into a star (on a team with an embarassment of riches) and the NFL ROY; the other never starts for any Div 1 program.
Check in after this year's Michigan draft class completes its NFL rookie season.

OSU fan here. Zeke was actually a 4* on most sites (I never saw him as a 5* anywhere, but there are so many sites that he may have been). OSU initially was after Green, but eventually pulled its offer to pursue Zeke. Many on this site did not believe the OSU posters who were saying at the time that OSU was not interested in Green and wanted Zeke. But to be fair, OSU fans would not believe Michigan fans who brought the same type of message (our 4* is better than your 5*) to an OSU board.

As a Lions "fan" insofar as one would admit, I was unaware how good Taylor Decker was until watching him this season. He played like a veteran from day one and not only held his own but was actually dominant at times. He should play 10+ years in the League. And as I remember there were several left tackles picked before him.
Also I believe Jack Conklin from Michigan State made at least one All-Pro team. That's pretty impressive.

came back to play in college this year. This list could (should?) have a few Michigan guys next year.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:14 AM ^
He said. Meh.
January 18th, 2017 at 10:19 AM ^
So then Michigan should be in a position to dominate in 2016.

that he didn't start for a few games and was stuck behind Langford and Carey. He finally got the starting job for good midway into the season.

I was going to comment - precisely. Howard had a great rookie year. This is a guy who was a low 3 star (if that) and make it big.

Bosa had a good year but I think Buckner had a better overall season.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:04 AM ^
Bosa produced more pressure and sacks and did great against the run. That is despite missing 4 games and no training camp. His seaosn was more impressive and far better overall than Buckner.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:50 AM ^
Buckner isn't just an end. His flexibility impressed me a lot and he played against much better teams than San Diego. Both will be great players.

Certainly not a great thing that OSU can go to recruits and point out all these shiny objects - not only do we get you drafted, you can get it done in 3 years and go get paid (more than you do here in Columbus...zing)....and we had player of the year on BOTH offense and defense.
The one that struck me was Michael Thomas - I know many crow here about you can't succeed at OSU as a WR but there again, that arguement is something Urban can just laugh at and wave Michael Thomas around.
Jim has a multi year lag but we need to be producing similar type talent and results in the big leagues or we are at a competitive disadvantage in a relative sense. Esp considering we have so many NFL coaches - we need to show NFL success to guys with results in the league once we cycle thru "Hoke guys".
January 18th, 2017 at 10:58 AM ^
Despite Michael Thomas's rookie success, Meyer doesn't exactly have the best track record with WRs. Riley Cooper is probably the second-best NFL WR that Meyer-coached teams have ever produced, even though Meyer has been a FBS coach for 15 years and has been recruiting at a high level for 11 of those years.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:02 AM ^
IDK, some of his WRs killed it at Florida

heh ...details.
And Percy wasn't a true WR ...a horrible NFL teammate apparently and flamed out as well.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:13 AM ^
Harvin when healthy was a rising star/electric athlete, but the combination of his migraines and hip giving out on him never let him reach this potential.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:19 AM ^
He was rumored to be a lockerroom cancer as well.

January 19th, 2017 at 11:56 AM ^
They were fine at Florida; I'm just saying that other than Thomas, he's never produced a really successful NFL WR. The options are pretty much Percy Harvin (who had one good season but was a complete head case), Riley Cooper, or Louis Murphy.

Wasn't this thread deleted...?

That would've been the "f osu/zeke elliott/joey bosa negbang" thread.

well this year and was rock solid as a blindside protector for Stafford. He was left on the island for the majority of the time and stood tall against pass rusher. His footwork and techniques were superb.
If there's anything that he can improve on, it's his run blocking and consistency overall. The Lions have found their franchise LT and they didn't need to spend a top 10 pick to get it.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:06 AM ^
This headline seems like an epic troll job.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:07 AM ^
Rudock was cut and I'm guessing Henry hasn't played much beyond clean up duty.
The point is this isn't surprising.

"with the time he was given..."
Pretty sure Glasgow started every game from about the 4th game on. Played guard AND center. He had an excellent rookie season.
January 18th, 2017 at 11:10 AM ^
Oh great... more recruiting firepower for Urban. I was really hoping that Jalen Ramsey would win the DPoY, so that Ohio State wouldn't sweep all 3 Rookie of the Year awards.
Only makes it worst that 4 of them made the All-Rookie team too.
January 18th, 2017 at 12:49 PM ^
I hope the opposite thread comes next year after Peppers and Taco are on the All- Rookie team.
January 18th, 2017 at 12:52 PM ^
In two years Garrett Moores will be the RoTY and both Bosa and Zeke Elliot's rookie year will seem insignificant.

Tom Brady will win his 5th Super Bowl this year. That is all.
