I saw the original Star Wars about 17 weekends in a row in 77. But that included 3 times each Saturday & 3 times on Sunday. My mother would drop me & my best friend off at 11 am at the Showcase Cinema & come pick us up in time for supper. I looked like a vampire from the lack of sunlight.
I'm apprehensive about anything Star Wars after fucking Lucas coun't keep his fucking revisionist claws off the originals.

It will be worth going to the movie just to hear the soundtrack. Spine chilling.
Oh boy!
Some help for you.
Jacen Solo or not?The bad guy in the Revan mask is who I'm talking about.
There are rumors that Kylo Ren is in fact a Skywalker heir but all prior publishings prior to the Disney purchase are now considered non-canon. Anything/body/where that has been seen or mentioned on screen is considered canon as well as new publishings over the last year. Any other novelizations such as the Thrawn Trilogy, The NJO series, etc. etc. are all now more or less fan faction(by incredibly talented authors, I absolutely DO NOT want to take anything away from their hard work), which is why Chewie is in the movie even though he died in the NJO series. Long story being long, it is very unlikely that is Jacen Solo as he technically never was a part of the SW universe.
PS Revan is canon however as he was mentioned in The Clone Wars series.
was a good move. Trying to stick to all of the books that had been written would have just put Kasdan in a box. Let him write the best story he wants to write without handcuffs.
I was one of the few people who disliked the Zahn books anyway, so I'm completely fine with then not being canon. After those, I pretty much stopped reading any Star Wars books, so I have no idea of anything else that happened. Which I guess is OK because none of it actually happened now.

Just to fire him and his lip hair. Your taste in movies is obviously as poor as your draft decisions.
Eh. That's how I felt all the times my friends tried to get me to watch The Matrix or my brother tried to get me to watch Lord of the Rings films. Just not for me*. But I'll forever love me some Star Wars. To each his own!
*And no, it's not an age thing. I'm 33, so I was right in the target market wheelhouse when those two series came out.
It's too bad you didn't see it in the theater when it first came out because at that time, it was a revelation. It was this brilliant mix of space and earth-like planets, humans and weird fantastical creatures, a story of good and evil with throwback actors like Alec Guiness and Peter Cushing who somehow gave it an element of old-time movie making. Plus it had humor and enough of a love story so you connected with the characters, but it didn't overwhelm the story.

There's a big difference between not liking something yourself, and not at all understanding why people like it so much.
I do not like Star Trek (except the new movies) or Lord of the Rings/Hobbit very much, but I get why people do.
I made the mistake of watching this at work. Looks like I'm not going to get anything done the rest of the day.
nice very nice i will go check it out when i get a chance

The Star Wars prequels were made too soon to rely as heavily on computer effects as they did. People were just figuring out computer effects and Lucas went nutso with them. Computers didn't do "gritty" well in 1999 but they were aweome at shiny, reflective surfaces, so that is what we got. A whole crap ton of shiny, curvy, reflective surfaces.
As you have pointed out, it looked like s*** and looked worse than the model-based film-making that dominated the original trilogy. The Star Wars films, especially Empire and Jedi, were pretty much the pinnacle of model-based effects in film IMO. They started doing some stuff with computers in Jedi, but they still did most of it with models I believe, and it was incredible. It still looks great 30+ years later, even the non-touched up special edition stuff.
Computer effects have come a LONG way in the 16 years since Phantom Menace and are now a TON better at representing grainy textures on things, and I'm pretty sure that is what Abrams is taking advantage of.
actually from what I've read, they are using more sets and less green screens than in Ep1-III.
NSFW:
maybe a vague or basic description has been leaked?
actually i find myself far more excited about ultron than epi 7.

This IS happening. Not a joke, not a hoax. That's a Boeing 787-9 painted like R2-D2. pic.twitter.com/yhduFxmNEO

What if the Star Destroyer entered the atmosphere on purpose but then only crashed while in a battle (with that x-wing fighter).
Seeing Harrison Ford as Han Solo nearly brought a tear to my eye. Flashed back to that 7 year old kid mesmerized by the original in 1977.
If you want to have a good understanding of what George did wrong in the prequels as well as likely why, watch RedLetterMedia's Mr. Plinkett reviews of each prequel. Each review is over an hour long, but they offer fantastic analysis, they're very funny, and you learn more about movies in general. Can't recommend them enough if you have the time.

I have faith in JJ Abrams.
Looks awesome!
Even though I liked the three Star Wars movies. The prequels were all that good. But this part has potential.
Glad to see that Han and Chewie have reconciled their differences:
