OT: Bond Villain "Jaws" Passes Away
Richard Kiel, whose towering height and distinctive baritone voice defined his nearly 50-year career in television and films, most notably as the steely toothed James Bond villain Jaws, died Wednesday afternoon in Fresno, Calif. at the age of 74,

Michigan Football has at least an indirect connection to Kiel in that the Lamarr Woodley shirt
was inpired by the shirt worn by Mr Larson, the ex-boss of Happy Gilmore.

While the Lamarr Woodley shirt pictured above features Steeler colors, a Michigan version of it predated the Pittsburgh version. (My Google-Fu failed me as I searched for the Michigan image.)
RIP, Richard Kiel.

I didn't realize this before, but after looking at the pictures of him below, didn't he play the villain in Force 10 From Navarone?

was his role as Jaws in the Spy Who Loved Me in '77. He had a bigger role in the next Bond film, Moonraker '79. Also, Michigan had a very good football team in '77 and '79!

in that he started out bad-ass and eventually became kind of like a comic-relief character (see Moonraker - maybe my least favorite of the whole Bond series). He was great in The Spy Who Loved Me. How many times did he try to kill Bond in that movie? Anyway, RIP Big Guy.

He played Lurch in the Addams Family TV series. I always thought that was Richard Kiel, too.

...can't believe no one mentioned that yet.
And he had one of his better roles in the original (and best) "The Longest Yard". Played Samson, former "Mr. Florida, 1964". Money quote "I THINK I BROKE HIS F***ING NECK."

He suffered from acrophobia, and during the cable car stunt scenes in Moonraker, a stunt double was used because Kiel refused to be filmed on the top of a cable car at over 2000 feet (607 m) high.
In 1992, Kiel suffered a severe head injury in a car accident, which affected his balance. He was subsequently forced to walk with a cane to support himself (as shown in his appearance in the movie Happy Gilmore, where he is seen leaning on a person or a cane).

Kiel was taller at 7'2". Cassidy was only 6'9".

to one of my favorite villians ever. Also one of the most handsome...
I always thought of Roger Moore as my favorite James Bond. After reading and watching all the tributes to Richard Kiel tonight, I'm realizing maybe it was Kiel's gigantic presence in those two Bond flicks that made the Moore Bond movies such favorites of mine.

RIP, Richard Kiel.
Jaws was one scary SOB. You think he was done for, and then he'd come back. With a big I'll bite the shit out of anything grin.
