Woo wee. He moves great, but there's no reason to be that big. He'll need to trim a bit to get consistent playing time when that much weight wears on you over a season. And honestly, I think we need him at DT going forward...

I would love to have an immovable force in the middle of the D-line to eat up 2 blockers.  Stuff the run game with Onwenu, Glasgow and Mone and guys like Gary and Taco can destroy QBs.  Will be insane.

That being said...how's he looking when playing o-line?

If he really is 375, then I would be a little bit concerned. Even if one is able to move well at that size, does not mean that the weight isn't putting extreme pressure on lower body muscles and ligaments.

That's my concern as well. As a teenager playing against people half your size and at a HS workload, that's probably fine. But ramp up wear and tear with competition level and workload, and it's bond to take a toll sooner or later. I always worry about guys like that later in their lives too.

I believe it. In the video he posted of his first tackle, you can see a 300lb Dawson get rocked back in the collision with Onwenu and then the poor RB absolutely get flung backwards like a rag doll.

yeah im sure the staff, tolbert and crew already identified an ideal target weight for onwenu and a plan to eventually get there.  they typically have a good grasp on the differences bw athletes (even the subtle ones) and try to account for everything when designing routines.

hes a very promising prospect and no doubt a big boy.  we always used to be amazed by the bigger dudes during camp and some of the 10-15 lbs fluctuations in water weight bw practice weigh ins (though its similar to proportional losses of like 3-4 lbs or whatever by us 200 lb guys, theres just something about those bigger #s on the chart)

Usually football players who weigh that much, even if they can move pretty well, have a big gut and obvious unnecessary weight. Owenu, in all the pics I've seen, doesn't. He must be a pretty amazingly constructed human being. Maybe his bones are made of lead.

I'm becoming more optimistic about the depth on the OLine.  With good reports coming out on Onwenu, Bredeson, Dawson and Bushell-Beatty maybe an injury here or there won't mean catastrophe.  To a lesser extent I've also read a few positives about Runyan and Ulizio but let's hope the starters play well and remain healthy and we don't see these guys until next fall.
