I'm sure only some people care about these changes, but here are the few things that stuck out to me:

  • Mike Morris up to 292 pounds. I think a lot of us assumed that Morris would probably slim down a bit and fill that Hutchinson larger edge role, but he's actually gained weight. Don't know if we still plan to use him as a jumbo edge or if he will be playing more inside
  • Julius Welschof is down from 278 pounds to 266 pounds and is now listed as an edge. Welschof is already getting some mid round draft hype due to his insane athleticism despite not playing much so seems like we may be trying to maximize that athleticism on the edge
  • Cade McNamara down 6 pounds, and no mention of McCarthy which I find interesting since he's on the more slight side

I coached against him when he was a sophomore. We had an All State QB who ran for 2k yards twice and Braiden chased him down from the weakside. One of the most impressive plays I’ve ever seen from an opponent (and I’ve coached vs Sauce Gardner, Dante Moore, and Will Johnson to name a few).

Still, I didn’t see an heir to Hutch like some did; and I saw Hutch in HS and he was a whole nother level than BM

A break out from one of the edges would be huge.  Obviously not going to replace two top NFL draft picks, but getting solid production is key to this defense.  Makes the DB's job so much easier.

In recent video, Cade has been looking rather svelte. He seems to have toned his body quite a bit. It matches what I anticipate to be a spectacular season for him. Focused. Precise. Surgical.

Cade's two best passes of the year were the bomb to Johnson when we were down vs OSU (biggest play of the game IMO along with Ross' TFL) and his TD to Anthony vs MSU.

The MSU pass doesn't pop off like the Johnson one, but his ability to sit in that pocket with a blitz coming at his own goal line and hit a crossing Anthony in stride was spectacular.

Those were really sweet plays, but more often than not Jibroni's point stands.  Cade often left his WR waiting for the ball to arrive instead of racing along to get under it.  That was on bombs, crossers, and bubble's/wheels, and was one of only two things we complained about all season.  The other complaint was the complete lack of RPO's when he was in the game.  Improve in those two areas and JJ probably won't be the starter...

I feel like the off season has caused some amnesia when it comes to Cade's flaws. You're spot on. He'd underthrow a lot passes, check down when had an open receiver down the field, was unable to make mid play reads, and couldn't make a read on a read option to save his life. Case and point: He'd leave a lot of yards on the field

We are going to have such a beefy line, nobody is going to run the ball on us. 5 second indecision by QB and it is sack palooza. PSU QB is going to need 5 QBs to finish the game.

I saw someone tweet last night that Kenneth Grant should be a 5 star because he weighs 350 lbs.  If that's the case, I'm well on my way to 5 star status...

Cool article, lots of nice information in there.

Bummer to hear about Gabe Newburg, hope everything is OK.

We'll see how Eamonn Dennis' switch to WR works out, but there's a lot of talent in that position room - Ronnie Bell, Cornelius Johnson, Roman Wilson, Andrel Anthony, Darrius Clemons, Cristian Dixon, AJ Henning, Tyler Morris…
