New Basketball Offer: PF Yohan Traore

Michigan has offered 2022 big man Yohan Traore, he tells @On3Recruits. One of the biggest stock risers this summer.

As has been discussed on the board and main page, good to see offer come through as Yohan has been quite impressive. Seems that offer was imminent, staff just wanted to give Reed the spotlight and this will help convince Yohan that he will be a PF at Michigan if he were to come here. I'm not sure where his rankings will settle out, but I'm guessing easily top 50 (currently #67 on composite). He had a more impressive summer than Reed, which is saying something. Curious if he has any connection with Diabate, both being from France and if that is something that could work in our favor.

Matt's Comment from recent Front Page Post:

"Friday was my first time viewing 4-star Yohan Traore (California/Dream Vision Adidas) and it was unquestionably one of the best performances I've seen this year, particularly considering the competition level. Traore absolutely destroyed 5-star Kijani Wright in every imaginable way. Yohan buried multiple triples, connected on step-back jumpers from midrange, looked great facing-up off the bounce from the perimeter and finished with authority as a dump-off option/roll-man. While the old film above is impressive, it is not at all representative of what Yohan displayed over the weekend. I immediately bumped him to 5-star status in the aftermath."

Excellent news! Pairing him with Reed would be fantastic.

Reading what MattEM has been writing, it sure seems like we have a really good shot with Traore

He'd be a great 4 after Johns/Caleb/Moussa leave. Him and Jett would be amazing additions to the class, it would cover all the bases.

Yes!  One of the key remaining targets to complete a very solid class (assuming Jett joins).  A class that would provide great depth and balance (1, 2/3, 4 and a 5).

I know it’s been said about a billion times around here, but the basketball program is everything we want in the football program. Compete for BigTen championships, recruit at a high level, develop the kids and prepare them for their next stop, and every few years make a run at a NC. I think the football program does some of these things some of the time, but basketball doesn’t seem to miss a step, including executing a near perfect and seamless coaching change.

It bears repeating: Those "good coaches" were at the helm when Michigan lost to Appalachian State.

Notice #1 in these:

For those who'd say "Toledo was worse!" it doesn't appear in any list of that type, ever.

Traore would be an outstanding addition to the Michigan basketball roster.

Basketball is such a wonderful game to play and spectate. Here, we Michigan fans get to sit in the catbird seat and and watch an innate genius of this great game, Juwan Howard, direct this orchestra. There are many ways to do most things well. Juwan has shown, in his two short years at Michigan, that he knows how to put the pieces of this basketball puzzle together. The roster he has built is scintillating and if he pulls in "only" Dug, Jett, Tarris and Yohan the talent binge will continue on.

Yes.  He is mixing some "high upside" guys like Moussa, Houstan, maybe Yohan, with some "program" guys that are less likely to defect early to the NBA because they are not the same level of athlete (which is fine).  You can really benefit from guys like Brooks, Livers, Johns, etc. that will be great players but will stay several years and can build that winning consistency.

I think he’ll probably end up ranked around 25 or so when all is said and done.  This class has a legit chance at having 3 top 50 prospects.

Others echo Matt’s 5 star sentiment…

”It's likely that he becomes a five-star prospect by the time Rivals.com comes out with its updated rankings.

"It’s extremely rare for a prospect to start the travel season not in the Rivals150 and finish it with five stars next to his name, but that’s likely going to be the case with Yohan Traore (1) in the next update," wrote Rivals analyst Dan McDonald.

”After watching Traore stand out at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in late July, fellow Rivals.com national analyst Jamie Shaw concurs that he'll earn a fifth star and end up a top-10 prospect.”

He was also selected to NBPA TOP 100 all star team (one of 12)…including the likes of Jett Howard and a host of 5* as well.

I really shouldn’t have watched the videos on him from recent camp performances ?. Get him and Jett to commit and call it a sensational top 5 (most likely) class!
