Giving coaches a show-cause for merely interacting with recruits during a dead period seems rather heavy handed.   Coaches elsewhere have done worse than that over the years without receiving show-cause.

That said - wouldn't it be something if Michigan hires Jim back, after he finishes with the Chargers, in some kind of role (hopefully not HC since that would likely mean Moore had a problem)?

OMG!   Coaches talked to a few recruits during Covid.  What a horrible crime!!

Yet, the FBI investigates and finds all sorts of issues with paying players pre-NIL, and nothing from the NCAA. Why do we continue to support this organization and why does Michigan keep falling on its sword?

Lol... can't believe there are any sanctions at all for this crap.  This is the kind of shit OSU self-reports on the regular.  If Harbaugh had done the same, this would have been dead years ago.  Love the guy, but wish he would play "the game" a little better at times.

Imagine you're driving down the road in the right lane going 65.5 MPH and get pulled over for going .5 over the speed limit.  And the entire time the cop is going through the "I need to see your drivers license, proof of insurance, etc" cars are flying by going 95 or more.  I'm guessing your reaction would be "are you fucking kidding me?  Look around, why are you pulling me over for going .5 over the limit while cars are going 30, 40 over?????"

I'm guessing Jim's reaction to the cheeseburger violations would mirror yours in that situation.

ehh... I don't buy that analogy.  I'm not sure what Harbaugh did to warrant the "uncooperative" tag, but I doubt it was as harmless as voicing displeasure at the investigation.

I think a better analogy would be that he flipped the cop off then pulled out with screeching tires as the cop was writing the ticket.

so in short...the impermissible in-person recruiting during the covid dead period is about meeting a local recruit for cheeseburgers, the impermissible tryouts is when JH was having a push up contest via zoom with Thomas Fidone's cousin who was battling lukemia and told JH he could do a 1 handed push up. The on field coaching was Ryan Osborn overstepping his role, and the former coach who is no longer cooperating is a big middle finger from JH and the NCAA got their feelings hurt. JH gets ran out of town and fatass gets his spot on the CFB playoff chair. I think I'm going to be sick.

I know Jim says things that are the best answer in the moment..for example in a recent interview he said the Chargers job is the best job he's ever had. It's not a shot at Michigan, it's just how the guy is wired. Through youth sports I've had a couple interactions with Jack Harbaugh and I once asked him if Jim would retire as Michigan's coach. He chuckled and pointed out at the field and said something along the lines of how important it was for his kids to have an upbringing in Ann Arbor like he did. Never gave me an answer but I took that to mean if he had full support he would be a lifer here. Now I understand Jim actually went to HS out in cali, and had gauged NFL interest every year. I'm just of the opinion if he had a more supportive AD he would still be here and we would have told the NCAA to fuck off about this little stuff. Again, just my opinion.

JH gets ran out of town and fatass gets his spot on the CFB playoff chair.

And you absolutely know the first question FA asked when told these would be the punishments was "this doesnt effect me being on the CFB playoff committee right?   Right?   I mean I didnt do any of that awful, awful stuff - it was that other guy, not me."

The fact that they actually issued show-cause penalties for this nonsense should give everyone a very clear idea of just how much the NCAA hated Harbaugh and how badly they wanted him gone.

Just to follow up on all the details that the OP provided, the violations described in this report are centered around the "cheeseburger incident" et al. Anything having to do with the so-called sign stealing scheme by Connor Stallions is apparently still under investigation and the NCAA hasn't announced any official violations on that front.

Slap on the wrist and negotiated resolution and that is likely how the sign stuff ends too. Michigan is going to get a fine, scholarship reduction, and a extra probation while Harbaugh, Stalions, and Partridge get 100 year show causes.

So 1yr probation because recruits came during the dead period.  And 1 year for each cheeseburger…. Wow glad we didn’t host an actual recruiting weekend like that team with a nut for a mascot….

Fuck the NCAA and fuck the AD for being the NCAA's lapdog.

The NCAA goes after Tennessee and the Tennessee AD full out sues the NCAA.

The NCAA goes after Michigan and the Michigan AD asks how they can help the NCAA screw over the program.

Does this mean Connor Stalions won't be able to take over Michigan football after all?  Or will it simply require another hundred or so pages in his manifesto?

How does this affect Moore?  We know he was one of the coaches due to the suspension.  I don't understand what a show-cause is so I don't know how that will affect his employment.

5 show causes, 3 years probation, and recruiting restrictions.  Can you imagine what the penalties would've been if Manuel hadn't "repaired" our relationship w/ the NCAA...? Empty suit. Still.

This is the NCAA's standard response to most forms of petty recruiting violations so that shouldn't bother anyone.

What is dumb is this kind of crap gets self reported left and right every year by other schools. This is all about a few people in the NCAA having a petty grudge with Harbaugh, Michigan, or both. This is where the true lack of leadership at the top of the NCAA comes through. No leader should let something like this happen. Even if the full infractions committee ran to the NCAA pres saying, "THEY WON'T COOPERATE WITH US!!!" That leader needs to tell that committee to focus on the shit that really matters and let this petty shit go.

The committee will not discuss further details in the case to protect the integrity of the ongoing process, as the committee's final decision — including potential violations and penalties for the former coach — is pending.

HAHAHA.

The lack of self-awareness is fantastic.

No surprise here - the case has been dismissed without impacting the team going forward very much. I doubt the recruiting limitations will impact us much at all - it's about NIL more than in-home visits. We're frigging CFB champions - NCAA Prez Charlie Baker said so.

Perhaps someone can re-cap the timing. Did the "crime(s)" happen in early 2021? Did these allegations come to light in 2022 after Dudek left?

This "statement" by the NCAA shows they were clearly trying to bench JH for perhaps all of 2024, or at least the 1st half of the season (JH would have missed games vs Texas, USC, and Washington).

Total BS but the NCAA is a dying snake that is using its death rattles.

I wonder who the other coaches are? So just to recap the last few years, we've now had multiple coaches commit NCAA violations, two coaches with DUI's, a coach fired for committing computer crimes, an analyst fired for sign stealing, another analyst fired shortly after being hired for being a horrible human, a coach fired for talking about sign stealing, and the former head coach under investigation for not cooperating? Am I missing anything or anyone? What a shit show. Yet there's barely been any problems with the players. Get it together coaching staff.

To me, the Tennessee NIL case is totally different from this case. NIL has been backed by a unanimous Supreme Court opinion in 2021. The NCAA tried to skirt this opinion with pissy interpretations of the court ruling (punishing Florida, FSU, etc.) - Charlie Baker probably figured it would lose again in the courts and just drop the case.

Federal Courts don't usually get into the "disciplinary process" of institutions like the NCAA unless there is an alleged violation of Civil Rights or Title IX laws. Like it or not, they probably had the "authority" to discipline JH even though he did nothing to deserve an L1 and even the L2 were a crock. This is a horribly warped and biased organization and has been for decades. Dating back to the Steve Alford charity sorority calendar days in the 1980s (suspended for the Kentucky game), followed by the Prop 42 eligibility requirements that heavily impacted Black athletes. In the 1990s, they had the BS loss of eligibility rules for Curtis Enis when he accepted clothing from an agent for an awards ceremony. Finally, O'Bannon of UCLA challenged them and won in court.

The B1G and SEC can put an end to this blood-sucking organization any time and should.
