NBA Finals Game 5 Open Thread

Can Golden State close out the Cavs tonight without Draymond Green? It should be fun to watch, regardless.

Hate Lebron, hate Cleveland, this wouldn't be a game without the green suspension. But wow hats off to Lebron. Came to play tonight. With that said go dubs

MRI to be done later this evening.

No Green + no Bogut tonight = LBJ running absolutely wild.

There's plenty time in this one if GS wants to make a run, but they are gonna need to do it soon...and try to get enough stops on D.

What I wouldn't have given to see Mahorn and Laimbeer respond to LeBron James coming down the lane on them. For as much as James whines about every damn call he would've been eaten alive by the Jordan Rules.

More romanticized nonsense...

Laimbeer was 245 pounds. Kevin Durant is currently 240. So rail thin Kevin Durant weighs as much as an "enforcer" of the late 80 and early 90s.

Fact: players get bigger, faster, quicker, stronger over time.

And the game is far more international than it was in the 80s and 90s which means there is a deeper, wider pool of players supplying talent to the NBA.

Either Cleveland always has an answer tonight, or the Warriors can't capitalize when they have opportunities. Rough night if you're a warriors fan, hell of a night if you're a cavs fan. I will say though, with lebron and Irving going off and curry being "ehh" tonight, I'm surprised it's even somewhat a game. But props to Cleveland :(

he made me into a fan when I went to game 4 at the palace and saw how beautiful his handles and drives are. he's making klay thompson and curry look like reggie jackson on defense. putting them on skates, making stupid shots. it's a thing of beauty.

It's hard for any team to win without their defensive leader and the other team shooting at 56%. What Cleveland (really just Lebron and Irving) is doing is absolutely ridiculous. I would be really surprised if they can replicate this performance in games 6 or 7. Hats off to the Cavs though. On a do or die situation, they really came to play.

pre-game prediction: "Draymond green will probably clinch the fmvp while on the bench tonight, in a loss. LeBron will go ape shit, which will highlight how impactful green has been as the lebron lockdown man. Green will come back for game 6, neutralize lebron, and get the fmvp."

first half of the prophecy complete.

(which also goes along with my pre-series prediction of warriors in 6)

How many millions in additional TV revenue did the NBA secure for itself by retroactively calling that foul flagrant by Green in game 4? That essentially guaranteed a game 6 and also makes it likely there is a game 7. Sometimes it is hard to not believe the NBA playoffs are rigged ...

Could only watch the fourth qtr. bc of work.  Looks like Kyrie keeps this team alive although LeBron is finally able to find a jumpshot(of course with no Draymond).  Harrison Barnes might be the most overrated player in this league.  He is just an offensive sieve that can't hit a wide open bucket to save his life.  Someone mentioned last game he's playing for that max...lol how?  Overall looked like GS had a chance to take the lead in the fourth qtr but they couldn't hit crap and once again it looked like the refs didn't give them any favors on shooting fouls.  Oh well.  Still see GS winning this series.  Just wish they could have done it tonight at home without the pressure of having to listen to Game 7 hype for 3 days.

...does not deserve a max contract. I firmly believe Golden State can replace Barnes with Nicolas Batum and improve at that position.

In this game, Barnes was 2-14, 1-6 from 3. And 4 of those attempts from deep were wide open looks in the 4th quarter. If he hits a few, Golden State cuts the deficit to 1-2 possessions with plenty of time remaining.

But it's clear that Curry is not 100%. I think this is a scenario like Tiger Woods at the 2008 US Open. We'll fine out the extent of his injury when he has surgery this off-season.

I'm hoping Golden State comes out ready to play for game 6.
