Moderator Action Sticky 2024

Submitted by Seth on February 7th, 2024 at 11:03 AM

Hello National Champions. New sticky for a new year.

Please don't post on here unless it's for Moderator Actions because they get cumbrously long. Long threads get deleted.

Want the rules of the board? READ THE FAQ: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

--------------------------------------

Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling: Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:

  • SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop.
  • Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
  • Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
  • Tony Garcia: Same deal. Sparty the Freep hired to be a troll. If he's posting news you can probably find the same from Angelique and others.
  • Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
  • Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas. This one's a soft ban. No beef, but we are on opposite ends of the fan vibe, so if it's being posted there it's unlikely to be welcome here and vice versa.

FWIW Seth I've got about as much experience as anyone here at uploading videos, GIFs, pictures what-have-you and I'm completely defeated at this point.  Nothing works for me and based on the fact that no active threads have a video, GIF or picture embedded in them it would seem I'm not alone.

Please try and get that fixed.  There's a thread right now on Iowa's QB being in the portal and it's killing me that I cant post a GIF of a Tecmo Bowl pass play in it.

OT: The transfer portal is Kadyn Proctor's favorite place

Misleading, bad journalism. Procter had to enter the portal to transfer back to Alabama. He has done so.

I think the board has already determined his fate. I saw this post, also other recent posts that have caught my eye, but he's never (to my knowledge) blatantly broken any board rules.

He's lost nearly 500 points over the last couple days.  The MGoBoard has spoken; Bolivia has a new visitor.

It sure doesn't, and it will be deleted soon.  It's the kind of post for which I wish we had the ability to subtract his points down below the required threshold for being able to post an OP.  Unfortunately, though, we mods don't have the button that would allow us to do so, and I'm not leaving his post on the board long enough for 7550 negvotes.

Only his immediate apologies save him from having a couple weeks off the board.

(Edit: thought it over a bit more while out bicycling prior to sundown, and no, in most cases I wouldn't feel comfortable with a temporary ban for a really bad post such as that one.

Let's instead say if you have initial doubts about a post you're considering making, maybe it's not a good idea after all.)

Rock star - art thou,  ;-)

One of the things that might be good to put on the board is the ability for a thread creator to say "Yikes, on second thought? Never mind!" - And delete his/her thread.  I know I can go back and edit a simple comment down to a <nvm> or something similar.

I'm sure there are permissions issues that make something like that problematic - but it might save some wear and tear on the board's "parents". Even my own kids learned to put themselves in the time out chair.

Just a suggestion ...

I made the post asking if someone in Lowell Michigan could pick something up and ship for me.....  I've got it taken care of .  Could you all delete that post / thread ?  I don't see any way for me to do that myself.  thanks

There seems to be an issue with embedded code getting deleted from posts. Used to be that you would post the embed code in source mode to embed Youtube clips, GIFs that were too big to upload, etc. I get that there's the media embed button now, but while the issue with posting pictures was going on, embedding a GIF via source code was the only way I could figure out to post images.

Now, whenever I try to embed code via source mode, it seems to instantly get deleted when I switch out of source mode or try to save (if I try to save, it gives a comment required error, because it's as if I'm trying to post a blank comment). Also noticed that a GIF I posted a day or two ago is now gone, it's just a blank comment (so it seems like the problem is affecting past posts as well)...

I'm a self-employed Rolfer who set up my business in Farmington last year. It's always a little tough describing Rolfing exactly but it's kind of like massage with some movement education that works towards long-lasting change in someone's body and definitely isn't a relaxing Swedish oil massage. I also recently got certified in Foundation Training, which is a corrective rehab exercise program. I'm offering free sessions of that since I need student teaching hours to test out. I'm still trying to grow my business as marketing is really not my strong suit and was wondering if it would be OK to make a post here about it since it's into the offseason. I realize a lot of people do some kind of business where posting here may be useful, so I thought I'd ask mods and users what they think since we don't want to just turn it into a classified ads board. Yet, I think it could be helpful not just for me but others who could use the work. I remember someone commenting about former players who are beat up in need of health care. Rolfing can certainly help with old injuries, arthritis, etc. I was planning to do something like an AMA where we can discuss Rolfing, fascia, massage, PT, exercise, pain, etc. so it's useful and interesting besides just serving as an ad directing people to my website. So, yay or nay?
