Mgoblog appreciation thread

Submitted by BlueTuesday on

So I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee, catching up on my favorite web site, wondering what would my Michigan fandom be like if the Mgoservers crashed permanantly or if one day Brian just said the hell with it and closed up shop. My conclusion? It would really stink.

For something like 7 years this blog has been my go to place for all things Michigan. It's safe to say I spend more time on this site than all other sites combined. (I likely need a hobby or something) This site transformed me from being a huge fan to being a huge well informed super fan. I often get asked where I'm getting all my info from. It's kind of amazing how many fans still haven't heard of Mgoblog.

IMO, Mgoblog hasn't done anything except get better in the last 7 years. Thanks go out to Brian and the front page guys for all the work they do, and thanks to the Mgomods for keeping the board virtually dickhead free.

Not only Brian, Seth, and Ace etc. There are also some very well connected people that contribute solid information as well as great conversation from the fan base. If you want the pulse of Michigan athletics this is a great place to get it.

Endow a football scholarship, donate to all 31 varsity sports (more to Football, Hockey, and BBALL), work with MPACT, student athletes, ties to LSA and Engineering shaping academics needed to be taught for Fortune 500 jobs, and internships. Lucky enough to be invited to certain events with coaches and athletic dept personnel and I do not mind sharing what I can here.

Except for game day open threads. After football last year, I am giving myself a one year ban from even opening a game open thread

I couldn't get into the game day threads most of the time, too many users. We need a gofundme or kickstarter to help buy a solution for the site. Edit: I'm talking about the chats, not the threads.

He's done a good job policing those threads. It still bothers me a little that he feels the need to post the "official" offense, defense, and coaching threads though.

I like the spontaneity of the board. Unless it's dumb stuff, in which case, LSA drop the ban hammer.

EDIT: This was supposed to go under a different post. Aslo, I spelled defense wrong.

That was basically the idea, to create a situation where we did not have a hot take nightmare on the boards that would bury thoughful observations that would generate good discussion. The idea to do that was to simply have a collector for the statements that, by themselves, would likely not be able to stand by themselves (which in the first hour or two after games is about 98% of them).

Thank you, Blue Tuesday and LSA Aught One - I actually took on the role of modding when offered out of my vast enjoyment of the site and the community. I wanted to give back to it in my own way. The high level of engagement here in this corner of the fanbase is what makes a lot of the difference as well as the level of access the paid staff and even its regular users have to various things Michigan.

I'm still chuckling at Mark Snyder for calling MGoBlog an "aggregator" This site produces more original content in a week than he can produce in a year, and that includes all the meaningless press conference quotes he writes his stories from.

Agree. Tons of original content. If there is any "aggregation" it's mostly us plebeian degenerate posters who collectively scour the rest kid the Internet for all things Michigan and then put it on the discussion board for the rest of us to consume. The only two instances I could see the writers in the blog being "aggregators" is during recruiting updates, but even then they sprinkle in original insights and news. And some of the blog entries are digests/highlights of the rest of the blog, so I suppose those blog posts are internal "aggregator" posts. But even then, the items they highlight are often original content from diaries and regular posters.
