Josh Gattis named Semi-Finalist for Broyles Award (Top Assistant Coach in Country)
Per (M Alum) Nicole Auerbach, Gattis has been named a semi-finalist for the Broyles Award. A week or so ago he had been named to the watch-list. Nice to see the offense come together, and the staff get their just desserts, even if we as a fanbase lose our mind (lovingly, of course) on a weekly basis. Go blue/Beat ohio

Isn't Houston the University of Houston? Isn't Ole Miss the University of Mississippi? Why, then, not put U of Georgia by G, Iowa by I, and Michigan by M? These are the questions I need answered.

don't look at me i just work here*
*i do not work here
EDIT: I have a theory that the name used is whatever the institution uses in press releases and they just Ctrl+c/Ctrl+v it in there
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:09 PM ^
I was actually wondering this same thing. Inquiring minds want to know!
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:35 PM ^
thanks alot, Bin Laden

On first glance, I'd give it to Knowles or Ruggiero. Oklahoma State probably has the best Big 12 defense in the past 15 years, and without the 5-stars that Georgia has.
And Wake Forest having a Top 10 SP+ offense is an incredible accomplishment -- that school has the worst all time winning percentage for P5 schools.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:16 PM ^
Jay Harbaugh should be on this list.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:17 PM ^
Iowa's defense hasn't been all that notable since the PSU game where they were on their way to giving up over 30 points before Clifford got hurt. Definitely flashy with the early season success and all the turnovers.
Unrelated, I forgot that OSU's OC is Kevin Wilson.
November 23rd, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
Mike MacDonald should be one too.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:45 PM ^
Middle of the defense has not been good all year. Let’s see how it is this Saturday
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:00 PM ^
That's fair but the entirety of the defense was terrible last year and most of us I believe thought it was going to be BAD this year too.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:07 PM ^
I don't think the award is for fielding a perfect unit. Michigan was number 1 in points per game improvement this year. If he slows down OSU give him a raise.
November 23rd, 2021 at 5:54 PM ^
Yeah but give credit for middle of the game adjustments or would you like some Don stubborn cop stache Brown gonna do it my way defense again?
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
Uh any coordinator than gives up 37 to MSU should not be considered for an award.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:34 PM ^
If we’re writing off a guy for one off game, Gattis should be as well for Rutgers.
Macdonald has engineered a massive defensive turnaround from 2020, one of the largest statistical improvements in the country.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:42 PM ^
Each school gets to nominate one guy.
November 24th, 2021 at 8:37 AM ^
Isn't the rule that they can only nominate one coach from each school?
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:06 PM ^
Congrats to coach Gattis
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:08 PM ^
Seth gives him a +10 RPS and he is immediately nominated for this award. Amazing.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:19 PM ^
We’re going to need him to rack up some RPS wins this weekend. I think he’ll do it and then it’s just execution. As Seth said in the UFR if the team can put it all together and limit mistakes we can beat these guys.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:18 PM ^
Congrats to all 3 Georgia defensive coordinators. Maybe we should just have 3 of them too if we want to be elite, amirite?
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:20 PM ^
No it's just one guy, lol. His title is the "Fain & Billy Slaughter Defensive Coordinator" like how Harbaugh is technically the "J. Ira & Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach"
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:33 PM ^
Our OC sounds like a law firm too! Gattis is the "Sanford Robertson Offensive Coordinator"
November 23rd, 2021 at 6:44 PM ^
unpopular opinion: this is no different than the Michigan State Spartans Presented by Rocket Mortgage.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:20 PM ^
This is closer to an endowment (think "Couzen Rick's, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Wumbology") as opposed to a corporate sponsorship.
November 24th, 2021 at 8:40 AM ^
Unpopular is right. That's just a bad opinion. I don't care for the titles given to the coaches, but comparing them to corporate sponsorships is weird.
November 23rd, 2021 at 5:52 PM ^
Just one who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Georgia seems to be getting it done. Imagine, in game adjustments, incredible.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:21 PM ^
Gattis has quietly assembled the best WR room we've seen since the Carr years. I have a hunch Okie State's DC will win the award, but I am giddy to see what bowl season and 2022 will look like if all these guys come back.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
Hope he stays at Michigan.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:29 PM ^
uh yeah but wasn't it like ten days ago we wanted him handed to virginia tech on a platter
November 23rd, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
different people have different opinions. IMO you want to keep Gattis. He's 'good enough' and continuity is important, but if he left they could probaby find someone of equal quality on the open market.
November 23rd, 2021 at 7:14 PM ^
Yeah. Even if you’re not 100% thrilled with Gattis, this wouldn’t be the year to have him leave. We’re returning A LOT of pieces next year and you’d really like to have some continuity instead of breaking in a new coordinator, new system, and new terminology. That’s definitely a move you’d prefer to make alongside roster turnover.
November 23rd, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
double post, apparently. beat ohio.
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:42 PM ^
nice to see a quality human being like kevin wilson finding a home at crapatoola university. Schiano, wilson, urban, zach smith, woody, etc... quite the collectors of trashbags over there
November 23rd, 2021 at 3:44 PM ^
It will take a win this saturday for Gattis to pull it in IMO
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:08 PM ^
Well then, 56-7, Michigan.
Suck a big bag of ding dongs, Sparty.
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
GB/BO!
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
Isn't this the guy everyone wanted to fire last season?
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:44 PM ^
don't worry, if we lose to the ohio penitentiary by more than a touchdown, they'll want him fired again
November 23rd, 2021 at 4:43 PM ^
That's great. Hoping this weekend helps.
November 23rd, 2021 at 5:40 PM ^
Absolutely absurd.
November 23rd, 2021 at 6:58 PM ^
Disagree.
The numbers speak for themselves.
It's to the point where I'm hoping everyone returns to keep the continuity. Also, I think it shows the players your commitment. We talk about changing the culture, buy-in, sacrifice, etc.
That can't only be on the players.
If we get all coaches back, maybe that helps keep Ojabo, Ross, and/or Dax Hill.
November 23rd, 2021 at 5:49 PM ^
Not MacDonald? Guy should be up for some kind of award.
November 23rd, 2021 at 7:00 PM ^
Think he lost that @MSU, it was kind of on him we lost that game.
Not being able to adjust to a no-huddle offense. Not completely his (or anyone's) fault...but that definitely played a part in blowing a 30-14 lead.
November 23rd, 2021 at 6:43 PM ^
Gattis really? Any coordinator that runs 32 times and loses to MSU should not be on this list.
I don't watch alot of Purdue but the 2 games watched vs MSU and OSU their offense looked awesome. I expected to see their offensive coordinator on the list.
November 23rd, 2021 at 6:48 PM ^
Yes, it was Gattis' offense who gave up 10 yards per carry to Kenneth Walker III.
Purdue scored 13 points against Minnesota. They also gained a whopping 40 more yards on offense than we did against MSU.
November 23rd, 2021 at 9:38 PM ^
Kenneth Walker is a Heisman canidate, it happens. Gattis left ALOT of points on the board. And some really odd plays at the end of the game. Listen I don't want to bash him but let's also be honest as a fan base. He's improving but for him to be a candidate for any type of coordinator of the year award is crap. Our offense stalled out when we needed it against Rutgers and Nebraska as well. Saved by our defense in both of those games. Again I love Michigan like every one here but this is absurd.
