I was in the Fickell train, but with a low buy out and lower end salary with incentives based on performance then in okay with this contract. If things are true that Michigan hampers it’s football program then other coaches are aware of this too. Do I go to a school that will let me do whatever I want to win or go to school that put up obstacles? This notion that Jim is a bad coach is a joke. Look at Cars last 3 years, Rich Rod, Hoke, and now Harbaugh maybe the school is the problem.

Literally there is nobody at the university who was present for all of those coaching stints. Not an athletic director, nor a university president, nor anybody else with power to influence the program. So unless you're insinuating that the fanbase or the school janitor who's been working for 20 years is to blame, I think you're barking up the wrong tree

Basketball recruiting is different on many levels. Duke has the number 2 and 7 kids signed and the number 3 committed. All 3 are Higher than Michigan’s best commit. Who else took 6 kids in the top group of schools? This is sort of the same as Michigan football recruiting always being around 10 but never a great average.

No... they dont have to break the rules--

1- juwann is doing this with image instead of money-with the promise to get into the pros

2-basketball doesnt have to do this with 20-26 recruits like football -just get a hand full of great 5 star kids

3- juwann came into a great bball program at its peak

4-maybe mrs howard was told "you cant win on social media- so stay off"

5-juwann already had inroads into recruits because his kids were right in the thick of it..

Thank you!!!! Somehow none of the other sports and coaches are hampered by the university, but they are intentionally holding the football program back??? That’s illogical! Harbaugh has to higher better assistants, he needs to develop players more and he has to stop meddling with his OC’s playcalling. That all falls on him! Not the president or AD.

Carr had us a few plays out of being in a National Title game in his penultimate season with a Rose Bowl trip, and even in that horrific 2007 season, after losing to App St. and thrashed by Oregon, we, again, were an Ohio State win away from winning the Big Ten. If that’s bad, I’ll take that bad over Harbaugh’s bad any day.

Tbf most of the board said similar about Beilein circa 2015/2016.

Find an effective, healthy QB and everything changes in a hurry. It's pretty shocking that JH has missed the past few seasons, especially with Milton over McNamara, but hard to see that happening this upcoming season.

At any rate, you're just going to have to suck it up because the other option isn't fun or healthy.

If you’re optimistic and they lose, you get ridiculed. If you are negative and they win, everyone is so happy that they are winning that they ignore the people who were miserable.

In 2016 and 2018 they went into Columbus in the top 4 in the playoff. In 2016, Don Brown’s defense couldn’t get a stop (while at the same time getting boned by John O’Neil’s crew) in the last drive of regulation or OT when surprise, surprise, they couldn’t force a FG attempt, then in 2018 the DC who had full autonomy over the defense saw 62 put up. And somehow he kept his job into the next year, where they slightly improved and “only” gave up 56. How he kept his job beyond that still stuns me.

Harbaugh’s two biggest mistakes at Michigan were keeping Drevno and Brown for at least one or two seasons too long.

a 2-6 season (because that's what it really was) resulting in a re-hired coach is what is miserable.  There have been so many apologists on this board for JH, along with a whole host of rash takes. Regardless, in real life when any of us go 2-6 as executives in our own businesses, we typically need to find new work, or should.  If what we're producing is the same salami everyone else is making, except that after 6 years we're now making it worse than our competitors who have inferior salami machines-- something is seriously wrong w/ the ingredients.

Can't wait for all the excuses for next year when it will be proved that this year wasn't a "fluke stupid weird covid season". Just like all the excuses we heard going into Hoke's last year.

Excuse me if I don't have faith in a head coach turning things around when he had to tell his players to clap when someone made a good catch. Or the fact that our biggest rivals would happily raise the money themselves for us to keep him.

It absolutely is at times. I found this board maybe 10-15 years ago and loved it. I largely still do, but FFS sometimes.

During the great COVID arguments of 2020 I was never so disheartened as when I’d read on here about how much America sucks and literally how “I hate this country.”  I honestly feel bad for people who are so miserable that everything in life is bad, negative, or without hope.

What if the AD did their due dilligence and there was nobody better available?

Then this was the best option.

We will never know if they actually tried to hire someone else but we do know they renogatiated and most probably left the University in a much better position to fire him next year if things do not improve.

I was hoping to upgrade to the like many of you here, but was it really a possibility this year?
