Congratulations to Duncan for his amazing journey.
|07/10/2018 - 8:43pm||France has been the most…||
France has been the most complete and talented team. The only question has and still is how will Lloris play. Today, he played as good as a goalie can and got the clean sheet. One more good game and there will be another star on the French jersey.
|06/24/2018 - 1:09pm||Panama had to play the worst…||
Panama had to play the worst game in recent memory for that outcome. To say John Stones was wide open would be a massive understatement, plus neither PK in the first half was even questionable. Kane did a good job to bury both, but that's the two easiest goals he's ever going to score.
|06/23/2018 - 11:28am||Neither Germany or Mexico…||
Neither Germany or Mexico want to finish 2nd in the group and get to face Brazil. Who, while they won 2-0 against Costa Rica, have not looked impressive yet. Expect that to change in the knockouts, especially if they have a change to avenge the 7-1 drubbing they received in 2014 on home soil from Germany.

|06/13/2018 - 11:35am||The question is going to…||
The question is going to come with some of the venues listed above how they are going to make grass work in their stadiums. So far, it’s always been a challenge to have a decent pitch for the games when playing indoors. No one who was around for the Silverdome fiasco in 1994 wants a repeat of the horrible conditions.

Not sure how John Lithgow and Bryan Cranston don't make the list.

George sounds like someone who was more interested in getting into Graduate School rather than becoming the starting QB. Good for him..
|02/13/2018 - 11:15am||March 25th||
At least we are past the Ides of March when he chooses Auburn after getting our hopes up. Wish the big guy all the best of luck wherever he goes that's not in Ohio.
|01/29/2018 - 12:30pm||Thank you...||
Agreed that the slideshow sites suck...when you add to it that there is no criteria about what differentiates 1 from 25 it's a waste of time as well.
|01/29/2018 - 12:29pm||A list with no criteria||
This kind of list with no criteria, other than all the schools are public schools, has very little meaning. It's nice to see the service academies listed, but no idea what makes them better than Michigan or other AAU members.
|01/09/2018 - 6:21pm||UGA Fans were dismayed||
I have a lot of friends who were rooting for UGA and now have a different view on the complaints we've had over the years on this particular crew.
|01/08/2018 - 12:05pm||Meteor strike for the win..||
as long as Satan and his muppet sidekick Kirby get struck by lightening first that would be a perfect outcome for this game.
|01/08/2018 - 12:03pm||UGA Fans....||
As someone who lives in Georgia let me tell you that UGA fans are almost unsufferable as it is. You would think they have won every National Championship that the SEC took part in if you listen to some of them.
Bad as it is you still probably want another trophy in Satan's case. It's easy to point out that Bama didn't deserve to be there by their own coaches statement.
|01/08/2018 - 11:53am||SEC Bias in rankings||
UCF deserved to be there...SEC bias led to this matchup
|01/08/2018 - 11:52am||2017 National Champion...||
Bama didn't deseve to be there and UGA fans are unsufferable already.
|09/14/2017 - 9:45am||"foreign" QB||
To most Bama fans if you aren't from LA (Lower Alabama) you are looked at like someone from another planet.
Plus, as someone who moved to the south years ago it does take some time to really understand the suthern' language, it only has a vague resemblence to English... :-))
|09/14/2017 - 9:41am||Great Venues||
UGA - Athens is a lot like Ann Arbor
LSU - night game at Death Valley would be worth the trip
Stanford - Let JH visit his friends at the 9ers.
|09/12/2017 - 7:10pm||Soccer Fans||
you are absolutely correct that most Americans don't have any connection to "their" team in Europe. Personally I think there are many parrallels between Michigan and ManU. Both have a great tradition of winning, both have close bitter rivals (and O$U and LIverpool also have a lot in common) and both have recent experience with less than succesful head coaching changes.
Enjoy the soon to be heard chants for "21 times' as we leave L'Pool further behind.
|09/12/2017 - 7:03pm||The Beautiful Game||
If you ever watched a Sir Alex team and understood their attacking you would understand why United fans love him like Brian loved the spread.
|09/12/2017 - 7:02pm||Not Exactly...||
Learning players, history of the club (like the tragedy that led to Busby's Babes), and enjoying watching some of the greatest homegrown players like the Class of 92 means that I enjoy my soccer experience every bit as much as my school. Now that my hometown has a club I will be fully supporting and rooting the Atlanta United FC as well. If you knew the history and tradition of the club you would understand more how United would feel very familiar to Michigan fans.
|09/12/2017 - 1:42pm||Not always the case||
As someone who became a Premier League fan years ago there were only a few games available for viewing. As such, the team that I was able to watch the most and played very attractive soccer was Manchester United. The Red Devils have a lot in common with Michigan for tradition, northern location and a fiercely loyal and diverse fanbase.
|08/24/2017 - 2:33pm||Group G||
Group H will have a ton of good game, but group G is really not good. Monaco, Porto, Besiktas and Leipzig as a champions league group? Celtic would love to replace any one of those teams.
|08/24/2017 - 2:24pm||UEFA Travel||
Manchester United have to face an away trip to Moscow, a 5 (+) hour flight, and the Premier League is not noted for taking that into account when scheduling their fixtures. That could very welll mean a Sunday game in England followed by a Tuesday game in Russia. Man City has to go even further into Ukriane.
|08/24/2017 - 12:06pm||Atlantic Subscription||
If you want excellent long form written content, it is worth the cost. As it currently comes with all of the areas they cover you can pick your favorite teams and enjoy. Being able to pick your favorite teams and only get that content is particually good since you don't have to sort through stories that do not matter to you.
|07/27/2017 - 12:42pm||Interesting Choices||
Only slots that I would be interested to hear your rationale for are:
Graham Zusi - has not in my opinion showed defensive positioning necessary for a WC squad. While he does provide a lot of effort and some excellent crosses, there are better options like Garza or Lichaji.
Dax McCarty – Dax is a fantastic player in MLS, but seems to struggle with the higher pace of international games. At best he would be used at the end of games or as an emergency sub for Bradley in the #6 role. There are others who can provide what Dax can do, like Danny Williams, and don’t have the issue with faster games.
Should we include a youth player or two like Andrew Carlton (Atlanta United F) & Justen Glad (RSL D)? Giving younger players experience with the squad would be very helpful in the long term.
|07/27/2017 - 12:30pm||Sad but true||
Well put again...there are unfortunately many that use the libertarian title and do a disservice to those who belive that individual right should exist as long as they don't infringe on others.
Brian’s argument (if I am reading it correctly) is that not building the additional housing units in fact is a case where government is limiting both the business opportunity and the opportunity of new residents (and their property taxes) from being able to live in what is one of the best cities in the country.
Change is not a bad thing...
|07/27/2017 - 11:47am||Nicely Put||
One other point, being a libertarian does not mean you want NO governement or public services, that would be anarchy. LImited does not mean none.
|07/27/2017 - 11:44am||Gold Cup 2017||
There are a couple of things to note from this tournament.
First, the US won at least a chance to represent the CONCACAAF at the Confederations Cup in 2021. Having a spot in the Confederations Cup is a great opportunity to see the venues and scout out locations for the WC the following year.
Second, this tournament was a great opportunity to see players who have been not used (Lichaji, Acosta, Corona, Arriola, and others) and show that the US has created more depth than in the past. Unfortunately, we only have one Christian Pulisic who is both an absolute difference maker and not already 35 years old.
Overall, anytime you get a result you have to be happy with it. Next we need to move on and use winning the Gold Cup as a catalyst for finishing the Hex with one of the automatic qualifying positions.
|07/27/2017 - 11:34am||Acknowledgement||
Libertarian Definition: One who advocates maximizing individual rights and minimizing the role of the state.
My view is that Brian has found a great opportunity from capitalism where a need existed and he was able to meet that need and created a business around it.
As someone who no longer lives in A2, but visits several times a year I found the article very informative and interesting. I find it a little sad that some posters feel the need to stray into national politics (not what the post was about) and express views that had nothing to do with local politics. That need to express vitriol about the current or former administration is probably the single largest reason for the "no politics" rule.
|06/02/2017 - 2:39pm||SEC Views||
As someone who lives in SEC country they are first and foremost pro anything good for the SEC versus any other school or conference. They will even root for bitter enemies when playing schools from other conferences.
Fans down here HATE it when I ask if they know the winningest college football program of all time and that answer is not from the SEC.
|03/08/2017 - 4:31pm||Cameron||
Who would you consider a better player than someone who has been playing in one of the top leagues in the world for the last five years?
|03/08/2017 - 4:21pm||Geoff Cameron playing today for Stoke||
USMNT needs Cameron to get some good game time before the hex starts again this year.
|03/07/2017 - 5:26pm||Happy Learned how to putt||
Ace, love the Happy Gilmore reference for Brian.
Now we just need to get him to understand that movie is a classic.
|02/27/2017 - 4:57pm||4K Broadcast||
There are some broadcasters that have started to deliver 4K video already, DirectTV being the one I know of since I watched the Super Bowl in 4K at a friends house.
|02/21/2017 - 1:13pm||Marseille||
Unfortunately for Marseille they are currently in 6th place and have done so by taking some BPL players who coudln't make the cut (Payet & Depay). If they are serious they will need to attract other top French stars like Griezmann or Nasri.
It would be nice if Ligue 1 was more than just whoever will finish behind PSG.
|02/21/2017 - 9:35am||Monaco's lineup||
I agree with you that like most French teams not named PSG, Monaco will find it very difficult to hold on to their best young talent. In a few years you will see their best and brightest playing in Germany, Spain, and England. Still makes for a potentially interesting matchday.
|02/21/2017 - 9:33am||Pep's Style||
Pep's style of defense is, "if I have the ball you can't score..." he's used that to great effect at Barca, Munich, and is instilling that idea at City. The problem with that is once you crack initial rush they do not fare well on defense.
This game will be very interesting if Monaco can drive an open pace and maintain enough possession to get City working in the defensive 3rd.
Should be a very entertaining weeknight game either way.
|02/19/2017 - 4:13pm||FA Cup Quarter Finals Draw||
So now we know that Man U will be playing in London at Chelsie. It's really too bad that couldn't be the final with The Special One getting a little back from his old club.
|02/19/2017 - 4:12pm||Extra Time for Bayern Munich||
First it was interesting that the referee decided to add five extra minutes when they had no major delays, penalties, or other stoppages. Second, while the 5 minutes is a minimum it's not exactly standard to let it go quite that long. I wish we could hear what was going on in the center referee's mind that made him extend it until Bayern had the equalizer. Tough break, but a fantastic defensive game by Hatha, they played it as well as they possibly could.
|02/17/2017 - 4:55pm||Thank you Ace||
GRIII's time was way too short, but we at least are blessed with these gems.
|02/17/2017 - 4:17pm||Manchester United||
Only question is can United get back to the top 4 and get back to the UEFA Champions League next year.
City is like State, enjoy your time in the limelight, 3-9 like Winter is coming...
|02/17/2017 - 1:43pm||Gold Cup Summer||
Not to mention we have WC qualifying for USNMT and the Gold Cup this summer
|07/08/2014 - 1:38pm||USMNT posts||
Brian, thank you for your insights and interest. Those of us who love the beautiful game appreciate it.
|07/08/2014 - 1:37pm||One other note||
Mark Geiger is the first American referee to be involved in a World Cup semi. Let's hope it is a better called game than Brazil versus Columbia
